Caitlin Clark breaks own record with one-of-a-kind rookie card auction sell
As the Indiana Fever star guard continues to navigate back from a right groin injury, Clark had reason to smile on Thursday night. In the latest illustration of her superstardom, Clark reset her own off-the-court record.
On Thursday, one of Clark's rookie cards sold for $660,000 on the Fanatics Collect auction site. It's by far the most ever paid for a women's sports card and it's nearly twice the amount garnered by the previous record holder, which was similarly a Clark rookie card.
The new top seller is the 2024 Panini Instant Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Caitlin Clark Logowoman. It features a photo of Clark and a game-worn patch from her Fever uniform. The 1-of-1 numbered, autographed rookie card also has the written message "769 points and counting," referencing Clark's WNBA rookie record number of points scored.
This record-setting card garnered 26 bids after extended bidding began at $336,000.
It resets the record books after Clark's autographed 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 was auctioned by Goldin for a then-record $366,000. Before that, the record amount garnered by a women's sports card was the $266,400 paid three years ago for a signed 2003 Serena Williams card.

Mitchell's 35 points lift Fever over Sky 93-78; Clark and Reese sit out
CHICAGO (AP) — Kelsey Mitchell hit seven 3-pointers and scored 35 points and the Indiana Fever defeated the Chicago Sky 93-78 in a marquee matchup on Sunday that was missing stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Clark missed her fourth-straight game for Indiana with a groin injury and has only played in half of the team's games and Reese was out for her second straight for the Sky with a back issue. Aliyah Boston had 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Fever (14-12), who have three double-figure wins over Chicago this season. Makayla Timpson had 14 points off the bench and Aari McDonald added 10. Mitchell had her 100th career 20-point game, second in franchise history behind Tamika Catchings, and her ninth 30-point game. She also picked up her 200th career steal and the Fever turned 23 turnovers into 31 points. Rachel Banham had six 3s and 26 points for the Sky (7-18). Kia Nurse added 14 points, Rebecca Allen 13 and Kamilla Cardoso 12 with 12 rebounds. The Fever had a 16 point lead early in the fourth quarter cut to six with less than five minutes to go but Mitchell responded with a 3-pointer and a couple of free throws to end the threat. Indiana closed out the first quarter on an 18-2 run to lead 26-13. Mitchell had 13 points and the Fever had 14 points off nine Chicago turnovers. The lead reached 16 points in the second quarter before the half ended at 51-39. Chicago got off to a quick start in the third quarter, pulling within 56-55 at the midway point on consecutive jumpers by Nurse. Big Ten Network personality Jake Butt picks teams for 2025 Big Ten title game
Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State will be defending its College Football Playoff national championship and will look to add a couple of goals it missed out on last season -- winning the Big Ten and beating Michigan. That's not as easy as it used to be with the addition of former Pac-12 schools from the West Coast -- Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC-- and with Michigan and Penn State rising up to become national powers as well. The Big Ten has closed the gap on the SEC and created one of its own as the best conference in the country, and it should be another fantastic season in 2025. So, who has the advantage in making the Big Ten Championship game? Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reveals his most anticipated training camp matchup
With the first week of Steelers training camp in the books, HC Mike Tomlin is excited for what lies ahead — particularly one matchup between an accomplished pass-catching running back and a great second-year linebacker.
