President Murmu and PM Modi congratulated DRDO last year when the Agni V missile was launched by DRDO. In her message on 'X', the supreme commander of the armed forces said, 'The state-of-the-art technology developed indigenously is a firm step in the direction of India becoming Atmanirbhar.'
'The flight test of Agni V under Mission Divyastra marks a very important milestone in India's march towards greater geo-strategic role and capabilities…I convey my heartiest congratulations to the Team DRDO for this major achievement. I am sure they will keep moving apace in their quest for excellence and self-reliance,' she said.
PM Modi congratulated Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists over the first flight test of indigenously developed Agni-5 missile, capable of deploying multiple warheads.
Notably, the Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) variant of Agni-V was successfully tested in Mission Divyastra (March 2024), thus proving India's technological capability.

Congress has prepared plan to bring OBCs to forefront, asked CMs to launch schemes: Kharge

NEW DELHI: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said the party has prepared a plan to bring people from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to the forefront and asked all Congress chief ministers to launch new welfare schemes for this section of society. Addressing a 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' of OBCs at the Talkatora Stadium here, he said for the last 11 years, the Narendra Modi government has not taken any concrete steps towards the welfare of the backwards, Scheduled Tribes (STs) or women. Kharge alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi only gives slogans and tries to adopt the policy of divide and rule by dividing the backwards, oppressed and the poor. "PM Modi is not ready to give reservations to those who are poor, oppressed and belong to the backward classes. Thus, they have to unite and help achieve what they want," he said. "They try and divide and then rule by dividing the backwards and the Scheduled Castes (SCs)," he alleged. Stressing the need for a socio-economic survey across the country, the Congress chief said the Telangana government has prepared a report and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is also conducting a similar exercise on its lines in Karnataka. "Our people are doing, but Modi ji will not do anything. After Rahul Gandhi raised the issue, Modi ji has announced to include caste enumeration in the Census," Kharge claimed.

This is his third visit to the Maldives and notably the first by any head of state or government since Muizzu assumed office. Prime Minister Modi met children and gave them autographs on the paintings made by them As part of the vibrant cultural reception, children also performed a traditional classical dance upon PM's arrival at the Kurumba Village Resort. After meeting PM Modi, a child said, "I painted this with the help of my mother. Honestly, I didn't believe he would actually give his autograph. But when he signed it, it was such an overwhelming feeling! I was so excited, I just started dancing." PM Modi shared glimpses of his interaction with Indian community members on X. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "The Indian diaspora plays a crucial role in furthering friendship between India and the Maldives. Happy to have interacted with members of the diaspora and I thank them for the warm welcome." Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that PM Modi's visit will not only contribute further to consolidating strong ties between the two nations but also enhance peace, prosperity and security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). "The relationship with the Maldives is comprehensive and multifaceted. It's been paid attention to by leadership at the highest levels and we believe that this visit by the Prime Minister will contribute further to consolidating these strong ties and contribute to peace, prosperity and security in the Indian Ocean Region that both of us inhabit," Foreign Secretary Misri stated during a special media briefing ahead of PM Modi's two-nation visit. The two leaders will also take stock of the progress in the implementation of the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a 'Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership', adopted during the State Visit of the President of Maldives to India in October 2024. "We have always been the first on hand to respond to the needs of Maldives in times whenever it has faced crisis, natural or man-made. There has been a robust, political relationship which has been bolstered by regular visits at high-levels," said Misri. "This joint vision, in a sense, has become the guiding framework for our ties. This year already, in the first six months, we have seen nearly half a dozen ministerial level visits from the Maldives. The speaker of the Maldives Parliament visited India. In fact, the very first engagement this year that the External Affairs Minister held was with the Foreign Minister of Maldives," he added.
