British singer forced to cancel performance due to ‘dangerous' safety concerns
Organisers cited severe weather conditions that posed a safety risk to fans, performers, and crew.
The 73-year-old music icon had been scheduled to take the stage on Sunday at Parco Ragazzi del '99, an open-air venue in the city of Bassano del Grappa.
However, local authorities advised against going ahead with the performance after forecasters warned of thunderstorms, high winds, and the potential for lightning.
'The mayor of Bassano del Grappa wisely said it would have been too dangerous for the performance to take place with the possibility of lightning and extremely high winds last night,' Sting told fans via a statement on social media.
'The safety of my audience, band and crew is paramount. I promise we will return as soon as we can.'
The decision was met with support from disappointed concertgoers, many of whom praised Sting and the event organisers for putting safety first.
The cancelled Italian show follows a challenging start to the year for the former Police frontman, who was forced to postpone several U.S. tour dates in January due to illness.
At the time, Sting shared that he was recovering from a throat infection, thanking fans for their patience and support. More Trending
'Thanks so much for all of the well wishes,' he wrote in a January 22 update.
'I am steadily improving from a temporary throat infection which has prevented me from singing, though I'm looking forward to resuming my performances and rescheduled shows soon. Love, Sting.'
A spokesperson confirmed that, on doctors' advice, Sting had also withdrawn from the Bass Magazine Awards and postponed his STING 3.0 concerts in Phoenix, Wheatland, and the Cherrytree Music Company's 20th anniversary event. Fans were advised to hold onto their tickets, which would be valid for the new dates.
While no new date has yet been announced for the cancelled Bassano del Grappa show, fans remain hopeful that Sting's promise to return will be fulfilled soon.

A shock EastEnders crime unexpectedly saves Alfie as he hides a big secret
Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) returns to EastEnders next week – but he's still knee-deep in lies. As viewers of the BBC One soap know, he left Albert Square on a mission to save his step-daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan). She had been staying with her cousin Stacey (Lacey Turner) and was clearly in a bad way, creating an elaborate lie so that her family would believe that Spanish loansharks were hunting her down. Zoe then fled to Barcelona, asserting that she'd done something 'so bad' that her family would disown her. Fearing the worst, Alfie decided to follow – telling his suspicious wife that he was actually going to stay with brother Spencer (Christopher Parker) in Australia. Kat (Jessie Wallace) became infuriated when the lies began to unravel, and Stacey was forced to create yet another lie. She said that Alfie was in a bad headspace after another cancer scare. Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) later assumed that he was actually helping out his estranged daughter Cherry, something which Kat is inclined to believe next week. In upcoming scenes, he jets back into Walford and is in disbelief that Kat had used Stacey's money – earned from her late husband Martin's life insurance policy – to buy The Queen Vic. He knew she'd come into some cash, and had hoped she'd use it to pay some dodgy fellas who claimed they had information on Zoe. More Trending Alfie is desperate to reach his wife before she listens to an incriminating voice message he's sent, and enlists Stacey to help. Tensions begin to rise when Kat tears strips off him for lying, and he makes a sincere promise never to tell anymore marriage-threatening fibs again. As he makes a final attempt to grab her phone, a mugger does the job for him. A scooter drives past, and the guy snatches it from her hands. View More » Is the big secret going to remain hidden? Britain's Got Talent judge quits panel as huge star 'in talks' to take over iconic gig
A Britain's Got Talent judge has reportedly sensationally quit the iconic ITV talent show. Bruno Tonioli has reportedly decided to step away from the show after just two series on the judging panel. It has been reported that newcomer KSI is the star who is in talks to become Bruno's permanent replacement. Rumours had circulated that the Italian TV personality may find it impossible to film the next series of the show with his commitment to filming Dancing with the Stars in America - with both reportedly taking place this autumn. However, Bruno has now officially quit the ITV show, according to insiders. Bruno, 69, joined the judging panel in 2023 following David Walliams ' departure. He quickly became a fan favourite as he joined Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon on the iconic panel. Despite Simon's efforts to keep him on the show, Bruno's ongoing commitments to Dancing With The Stars has reportedly now made it impossible for him to continue on the show. A show insider confirmed the news to The Sun, as they stated: 'Bruno has officially quit Britain's Got Talent and they are hoping that KSI will replace him. "He absolutely loved being on the panel with Simon, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden but Bruno just can't juggle his schedule with filming. There is no bad blood and Bruno is leaving with a smile on his face.' Earlier this week, rumours had circulated about Bruno quitting the show as a source said: "The filming schedule in 2024 meant that Bruno could get away with not being present for filming one week of auditions. "But it would be virtually impossible for him to miss two weeks, because in the final edit, that equates to half the episodes in the new three-month run of BGT, which will air from February of 2026." They added that there is "absolutely no ill feeling about the situation" and that it is purely down to difficult schedules. The Mirror understands that conversations around this year's BGT line-up are still underway. Rapper and internet personality KSI is currently tipped to replace Bruno if he leaves, with the rapper having filled in for the ex Strictly star on a number of occasions in the last series. He proved to be a massive hit with viewers when he joined the panel for BGT's Blackpool auditions and went on to appear at the live semi-finals. Meanwhile, comedian Alan Carr is also reportedly in the running, having previously revealed that he was originally in talks to take over from David Walliams. Back in 2023, the long-standing friend of Amanda Holden revealed that the show had told him that he would be joining BGT before later confirming that Bruno had landed the role. "I don't really know what went on. It was that awful thing of people saying I was devastated. I was on the set of my sitcom, which I wrote and I'm producing, so I was not devastated about not being on BGT," he said. He added that he later saw Simon Cowell at a party held by Amanda Holden and joked about missing out on the judging role, to which Simon replied: "That's showbizness." The Mirror has approached a Britain's Got Talent spokesperson for comment on this story.
