The Latest from Storm Team 5…
Good morning! It will be a cooler day once again to wrap up this final day before Memorial Day weekend!
After some areas of sun early this morning, expect mostly cloudy to overcast skies to fill back in. Highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. There are some signs that the cloud deck will open up allowing some sunshine later this afternoon and evening. Lets hope!
Tonight, partly cloudy skies, and with a continued north wind, it will be a chilly night in the upper 30s and low 40s.
Looking pretty nice here for Memorial Day weekend with temperatures getting slightly warmer each day. For Saturday, a nice mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the lower to middle 60s. There is a chance of a passing shower later in the day.
Sunday, mix of sun and clouds once again, highs in the middle 60s. The best weather day will be Monday for all the parades and services. Mostly sunny, highs closing in on 70! Watching a chance for our next opportunity for precipitation around Wednesday-Thursday, details are up in the air at this time.

How can Kentuckians maximize their A/C unit during the summer months?

LANCASTER, Ky. (FOX 56) – As temperatures continue to climb, more and more people are cranking up their A/C units. Kentuckians have likely had the urge to crank up their air conditioning to the fullest to beat the heat. However, that could be the wrong mindset to have. Karen Hughes with ADA Heating & Air said there are some things to do before turning on the A/C unit for the first time for the summer. Doing a maintenance check will ensure the unit is actually ready to run. It's also advised to make sure the area around the unit is clean, which will prevent potential hiccups during the summer from things getting caught in the unit. UK police issue crime bulletin after burning car found behind Memorial Coliseum Louisville man accused of attempted rape, trying 'to do bad things' to minor Keeneland offers hands-on experience in horse industry to men in recovery 'Check the freon levels; you're going to want to make sure you stay cool,' Hughes explained. 'Make sure there's no leaks and that'll keep you running smoother. Also, one of the best things to do is to change your filter. Make sure your filter is not dirty. I've seen that happen; that can cause more damage than just about anything.' Hughes also said that in order to maximize the health of the A/C unit, don't put it on the coldest setting possible. Although it may seem tempting, the ideal range is about 70 to 72 degrees. The last thing anyone wants is for their A/C to break, especially during the summer. Hughes said there are some simple ways to save money when it comes to your system. Chief among them is checking all electrical outlets, making sure everything is plugged in correctly without having to call a specialist. Consumers will also want to make sure all the compressors are running and the evaporator coil is clean. 'If the unit has stopped working, just flip the breaker and see if that's the issue. A lot of times, that is, and it's an easy fix. An easy, free fix.' Hughes also said HVAC and A/C units need to be constantly maintained and that a good habit to get into to prevent overworking the system is to have someone check it every time you get your oil changed, or at least twice a year. Hot weather today; Increasing thunderstorm chances ahead

Good morning KELOLAND! It's a cool start to the morning, but much warmer weather is ahead today for much of the region. Highs stayed in the 60s in much of eastern KELOLAND yesterday, with Watertown staying at just 59. Lower 80s returned to the Rapid City area, with 90s likely today. We think Sioux Falls will be close to 90 degrees later today with hazy sunshine expected. Here's a closer look at what you can expect the next few days. First, temperatures today will turn hot ahead of the cold front dropping into northern KELOLAND this afternoon. You can see widespread 90s for many locations. Next, watch the movement of that front by tomorrow morning. We think that front will drop south of Sioux Falls, which means much cooler weather for tomorrow. Also, a band of scattered rain should develop along a Spearfish-Pierre-Huron-Marshall line during the day. We can't rule out a chance of rain near Sioux Falls as well. Stronger t-storms development may take place in clusters south of I-90, with a marginal risk of severe weather. We expect a new round of mainly nocturnal thunderstorms to develop in southeastern KELOLAND overnight into Thursday morning. Then, a new round of thunderstorms should develop in western SD during the day, with thunderstorms spreading east Thursday afternoon and evening. Locally heavy thunderstorms are possible along with a marginal risk of severe weather. You can see those marginal risk maps below. Rain totals through Friday should be significant in parts of KELOLAND. For example, the range of 1-2″ looks very likely for Sioux Falls, with locally higher totals likely where thunderstorms train or cross over the same areas more than once. We'll continue to monitor the high-resolutions details as we add more information to these rain forecasts. The numbers on average are not as high for western SD, but we still expect pockets of showers and thunderstorms starting tomorrow. Here are the details of the forecast. Heat persists throughout Utah with above-average highs

SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Tuesday, Utah! Above-average warmth has arrived and will stick around for the next several days. Today's temperatures are expected to warm up another couple of degrees, which translates to daytime highs in the low to mid-90s for most valleys, 80s for high terrain, and upper 90s to low 100s for the warmest spots. There won't be much cloud cover in the north to provide shade, but parts of eastern and southern Utah will see a mix of sun and clouds. We can't rule out a brief thunderstorm rolling into the southwest desert, including Price, St. George and Cedar City. The bottom line? Building heat with above-average temperatures statewide. Lingering moisture allows for the chance of storms through the midweek. With the potential of storms in the forecast, our flash flood threat remains elevated for a few popular recreation spots. Flash flooding will be 'Possible' for some outdoor recreation areas in slot canyons, dry washes, and other low-lying areas, including Capitol Reef, Grand Staircase, Natural Bridges, Lake Powell and Bryce Canyon. The threat isn't high, but it's worth keeping your eyes to the skies if you plan on being in those areas. A ridge of high pressure will continue to strengthen and eventually center over Utah, allowing for high heat during the work week. We won't see temperatures fluctuate much this week, so expect our daytime highs to remain about five to ten degrees above seasonal norms. By Wednesday, a trough will clip Northern Utah, and while we have very dry air at the surface, we have the chance to see storms develop, and strong outflow winds are expected in Northern Utah. As a result of the damaging wind potential, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a 'Marginal' thunderstorm risk for northern Utah on Wednesday, which means a few severe thunderstorms will be possible. With dry air near the surface, we will not likely see major precipitation, but storms could produce abundant lightning, small hail, and erratic wind. Once the trough exits the region, we will have a dry, southwest flow in place, allowing for hot temperatures and increased winds. The latter half of the work week could bring critical fire conditions to parts of central and southern Utah, with low relative humidity expected, heat and gusty winds in place. Stay tuned!
