Man arrested in connection with deadly triple shooting in Independence
Police said Robert L. Cordato, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested on Friday in Blue Summit.

The shooting was reported just before midnight on Thursday, June 12, at 15th Street and Brookside.
Three victims were found inside a home; one was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim who died has been identified as Robert Smith Jr., of Independence.
The second victim is reported to be a woman who remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
The third victim is reported to be a juvenile, who sustained moderate injuries and is recovering, according to police.
According to the probable cause statement, Cordato has only been charged with possession of a controlled substance in Jackson County.
The probable cause statement says investigators set up surveillance at multiple addresses. On June 13, Cordato was arrested; investigators found nearly 3 grams of methamphetamine on his person, according to the probable cause statement.

Second-degree murder
Armed criminal action
Aiding the escape of a prisoner
Burglary
Unlawful use of a weapon
Possession of stolen property

Grandville orthodontist facing federal child exploitation charges
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An orthodontist who formerly practiced in Grandville is now facing federal child exploitation charges. Thomas Shannon, 43, was arrested in Frankfort, Michigan, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan announced Wednesday. He is charged by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and attempted receipt of child pornography, according to the attorney's office. According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Monday, a therapist reported in 2021 that a teenager had been sexually exploited. The victim told police that she had received money in exchange for sending illicit images, the complaint continues, and investigators traced the Snapchat and CashApp accounts to Shannon, who lived in Byron Township. Sex offender, busted in sting but not arrested, snagged again In 2022, amid a Kent County investigation, the complaint says Shannon hired a private forensic investigator to search his phone 'in an attempt to prove that he did not possess any child pornography.' 'The examiner, however, found child pornography and turned it over to police,' the U.S. Attorney's Office wrote in a release. Authorities found evidence that Shannon possessed and received child pornography, according to the complaint. Investigators found that Shannon had communicated with multiple minor victims whom he met online, the complaint alleges. One was just 12 years old. The complaint placed most of the victims out of state. Shannon was in January 2023. But according to the federal complaint, he was released on bond. Investigators found that he was on bond for those charges while communicating with one victim — a 13-year-old — in 2024, the complaint alleges. The state case against Shannon is pending. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hernandez Govan, the man accused of orchestrating the death of rapper Young Dolph, is set to appear in court for day three of his trial Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, Angela Arnold, the girlfriend of Cornelius Smith, was the first witness to take the stand. She told the court that to her knowledge, Smith never had direct contact with Big Jook and that he would communicate with Govan to send and receive messages. She also testified she saw Govan at a carwash hours after Young Dolph's death, when Smith picked up a cellphone from Govan he had left in the white Mercedes used in the murder. Various Memphis Police Investigators were then called to testify in court, along with cell phone records. According to the investigators, they went over calls and text records of Goavn, Smith, and Big Jook in the months leading up to the murder and afterward. They say Smith appeared to have several outgoing calls to Govan. But in cross-examination, Govan's defense attorney explained the reasoning for their communication, saying, Govan supplied Smith with various types of pills, and Johnson talked with him because he was an aspiring rapper. Another investigator who testified said detectives went to the airport to execute a search warrant on Big Jook's phone and asked if they could speak to him, but he refused.
