Dakota Johnson isn't blushing 50 shades of red over intimacy.
The Materialists actor teased that she doesn't fully prepare to perform a sex scene, as she's become more comfortable filming them.
'I don't have to,' Dakota joked during her June 10 appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. 'I'm, like, always psyched up for sex.' In fact, the 35-year-old has a certain trick she uses to navigate those sensual moments. She studies her characters' background, which helps her interpret how they might approach sex in the film's plot.
'First, it depends on who the character is and who the character's supposed to be to the audience,' she continued. 'Is she like a super idolized hot girl? Is she a housewife? Is she lonely? Is she scared? Is she conservative? So that's obviously character work.'

Though she has her own tactic, the Suspiria actor also credited her comfort around these scenes to her mom Melanie Griffith, who created a safe space for her to talk about sex growing up.
'My mom raised me to be really proud of my body and love my body,' Dakota—whose dad is actor Don Johnson—explained. 'I've always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work because I can use it and it feels real. It was the way she spoke about it with me. She talked to me about sex and how precious and important it is.'
Dakota then reflected on the last sex scene she filmed 'a few months ago,' noting that experience was the 'first time' she's worked with an intimacy coordinator. And while she had a 'great' interaction with the coordinator, it dawned on her that she didn't have an on-set professional for her most intimate character: Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.
'There were no intimacy coordinators,' she explained, before noting the behind-the-scenes work in creating the first film—which was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson—was a bit tough. 'I think the movie is as good a version as it could be. But it was challenging. I signed on to a script that was different than what we ended up shooting.'
And with those changes being out of her control, the Fifty Shades Freed star toughed it out.
'You're attached, you signed a contract, signed on to do it with a different actor—and then it all changed,' she continued. 'I was so young, I think I turned 24 when we were shooting. But I'm proud of myself for being brave.'

Bruce Springsteen's Blockbuster Albums Storm The Charts Together

Bruce Springsteen is spending the summer traveling around Europe, performing dates on his Land of Hope and Dreams tour. The trek began two years ago under the name Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 2023–2025 Tour, but when he picked up the guitar again in mid-May, he later renamed the venture and brought it to the United Kingdom. Springsteen and company recently played dates in Liverpool, marking his return to the nation, and this move has spurred a buying frenzy of his catalog. Half a dozen of Springsteen's albums appear on at least one chart apiece in the U.K. this week. Four of those titles return to the rankings, becoming bestselling releases once more. Born in the USA is the only one of Springsteen's titles that returns to a sales list and appears inside the top 40. The early-career classic breaks back onto the Official Album Downloads chart at No. 35. It also lands at No. 79 on the Official Albums Sales list after not appearing on that tally at all just a few days ago. Greatest Hits also reappears on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts, where it can be found at Nos. 49 and 83, respectively. At the same time, the compilation rockets from No. 80 to No. 7 on the Official Album Downloads ranking – reaching a new high point in the process. Yet another compilation, titled simply Best Of, jumps back onto both the Official Albums Streaming list and the Official Albums chart. On those tallies, the compilation can be found at Nos. 84 and 93, respectively. Springsteen's catalog is so popular that one collection of smash singles isn't enough for the nation. The River is the only one of Springsteen's comebacks that doesn't make a home on several rankings. This time around, it only reenters the Official Album Downloads chart, where it comes in at No. 72. In addition to his quartet of returning favorites, one of Springsteen's oldest projects — his breakout set Born to Run — manages to debut on the downloads-only tally. The career-making set launches at No. 92, decades after it was first unveiled to the world.

Live updates: House set to vote on DOGE-inspired cuts to foreign aid, PBS, NPR

The House is set to vote Thursday on a package of funding cuts inspired by the U.S. DOGE Service that until recently was overseen by Elon Musk. The clawbacks, totaling $9.4 billion, take aim at foreign aid and funding for PBS and NPR, among other things. It could be the first in a series of so-called recession packages. At the White House, President Donald Trump is expected to sign a measure Thursday that blocks California's first-in-the-nation rule banning the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. He is also scheduled to sign executive orders and host a congressional picnic. Elon Musk is out of Washington, but House Republicans could make his legacy law. The House is scheduled to vote Thursday on a package of federal funding cuts inspired by the U.S. DOGE Service's slashing of the federal government. Those cuts include an effective elimination of U.S. foreign aid and funding for PBS and NPR. The total cost of the clawbacks is $9.4 billion. President Donald Trump ousted the leadership of the Kennedy Center and installed his own loyalists. He has said he wants to remake its show offerings and renovate its building. And on Wednesday night, he came to hear the people sing. Trump arrived in a box to watch one of his favorite musicals, in the venue that he has long avoided but is now trying to embrace after taking control. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) said the Trump administration has excluded him and his family from a congressional picnic at the White House in what he believes to be an act of retribution, politicizing an annual celebration of bipartisanship over Paul's refusal to support the president's signature legislation. HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, widely considered a possible Democratic contender for the presidency, vowed Wednesday to protect the right of protesters if President Donald Trump sends troops into Philadelphia as he has done with the National Guard and Marines in Los Angeles, and to work with local law enforcement to keep the city safe.
