More than 40 MLAs ready to form new Government in Manipur, converge at Imphal Raj Bhavan
According to PTI, BJP legislator Thokchom Radheshyam Singh claimed that 44 legislators were ready to form the government, after his meeting Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Mr. Singh, along with nine other MLAs, met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan.
"Forty-four MLAs are ready to form a government as per the wishes of the people. We have conveyed this to the governor. We also discussed what solutions can be there for the issue," he said.
"The governor noted what we had to say and will initiate actions in the best interests of the people," he added.
Asked if they would stake a claim to form the government, he said the central leadership of the BJP will take the decision.
"However, to inform that we are ready is similar to staking a claim to form a government. Speaker Th Satyabrata has individually and jointly met the 44 MLAs. There is no one who opposes the formation of a new government," Mr. Singh said.
"People are facing too much hardship. In the previous term, two years were lost due to COVID, and in this term, another two years have been lost due to the conflict," he said.
Manipur has been under President's Rule since February after BJP leader N Biren Singh resigned as the Chief Minister, amid criticisms about his government's handling of the ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zos, which broke out in May 2023.
The 60-member Assembly at present has 59 MLAs, with one seat vacant due to the death of a legislator. In the BJP-led coalition, there are 32 Meitei MLAs, three Manipuri Muslim MLAs and nine Naga legislators, totalling 44.
The Congress has five MLAs — all Meiteis. The remaining 10 MLAs are Kukis — seven of them won the last election on a BJP ticket, two belong to the Kuki Peoples' Alliance, and one is an Independent.
The development comes amid massive protests in the Meitei-inhabited Imphal Valley over the hiding of the State's name written on the windshield of a government bus by security forces.
Meitei groups have been demanding an apology from the Governor over the incident that happened in Gwaltabi on May 20, and the resignation of the chief secretary, DGP, and security advisor.
Since the beginning of the ethnic strife in May 2023, in which over 250 people have been killed, Meitei groups maintain that the territorial integrity of the State is non-negotiable in any peace process, while the Kuki-Zo outfits assert that the only solution to resolve the crisis is creating a separate administration for the hill districts where they live.
The Gwaltabi incident has added to the tensions, which were waning in recent months because of a slew of measures being taken by the Centre to bring back peace to the State.

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15 on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day celebrations . The rehearsal, which lasted for six hours barred entry of all general vehicles and permitted only labelled ones.(PTI) A full-dress rehearsal for the arrangement was conducted on the morning of August 13 between 4am to 10am, during which traffic restrictions were imposed in the national capital. "Restrictions were imposed on our borders from 10 last night, under which we do not allow any commercial vehicles to enter Delhi. These restrictions will remain in place until the arrangements at Red Fort are over... We have restrictions on the ring road that goes towards Raj Ghat because there is movement of VIPs there...," said Delhi Police Additional CP Traffic, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, as he announced stringent traffic restrictions across the national capital. The rehearsal, which lasted for six hours and included participation from security personnel and other ceremonial arrangements, barred entry of all general vehicles and permitted only labelled ones. Traffic advisory issued by Delhi Traffic Police The following are the road restrictions for the dress rehearsal that might be repeated during the main event, which is scheduled on Friday. • Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to C. Hexagon. • SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk. • Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort. • Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg. • Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg. • Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT. Only labelled vehicles are permitted on the mentioned roads. According to the advisory issued by Delhi Traffic Police, citizens with vehicles without parking labels are urged to avoid the following roads due to closures: • C-Hexagon • India Gate • Copernicus Marg • Mandi House • Sikandra Road W Point • A Point Tilak Marg • Mathura Road • BSZ Marg • Netaji Subhash Marg • J.L. Nehru Marg • Ring Road between Nizzamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate • Outer Ring Road from Nizzamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass. All buses operating between ISBT and Faridabad (Badarpur) shall either terminate at Sarai Kale Khan or be diverted on Ring road via Dhaulakuan Punjabi Bagh - Azad Pur - Akharra Chandgi Ram - U turn ISBT and enter ISBT. • For buses leaving Delhi: 1. Security beefed in Delhi ahead of independence day celebrations According to ANI, a high-level meeting was held at the Delhi Police Headquarters on Saturday. District DCPs, Special CP, Joint CP, Zonal incharge and Sector incharge of the Red Fort were reportedly present in the meeting, where they discussed final stage preparations for the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. The Commissioner of Police, Delhi, S.B.K. Singh, chaired the meeting, which was attended by Senior Police Officers from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, along with Senior officers of Central Intelligence/Enforcement Agencies, the report added. It was the final stage discussion on the multiple layers of security which would be in place at the Red Fort, along with the anti-drone systems and facial recognition technology, read the ANI report. Emphasis was laid on the need for advanced information regarding the movement of suspicious individuals and vehicles. Measures to prevent unauthorised border intrusions were also discussed.

Tejashwi Yadav again threatens election 'boycott', says ECI helping BJP
Patna: Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday reiterated that he may boycott the upcoming state elections, accusing the Election Commission of large-scale irregularities. Tejashwi announced that from August 17, he will join the 'Vote Rights Yatra' with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during which they will meet the public and discuss the issue. 'After the yatra, we will seriously consider whether to participate in the Assembly elections or not. When the Election Commission has already decided everything, it can also be considered that we do not participate,' he said. He alleged that the Commission is 'robbing votes' at the behest of the BJP. Citing examples, he claimed that Muzaffarpur Mayor and senior BJP leader Nirmala Devi's name appears in two separate voter lists within the same constituency, with two different EPIC cards and mismatched ages. He further alleged that her two brothers-in-law also hold duplicate registrations with separate IDs. Tejashwi Yadav also pointed out that two EPIC numbers of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha were raised by the RJD, and only then did the Election Commission serve notice to him. 'More interestingly, Sinha's name appeared in two districts, and according to my knowledge, the district administration of only one district has served notice to him,' Yadav said. Tejashwi also claimed that the BJP's Bihar in-charge Bhikhu Bhai Dalsania is registered in Bihar's voter list despite being from Gujarat. 'Last time in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, he voted in Gujarat, removed his name from there, and now he will vote in Patna. After elections, he might again get his name removed here and vote in Gujarat,' Tejashwi charged. The RJD leader alleged serious irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, claiming the BJP has been rendered 'speechless' as revelations emerge. He criticised the Election Commission for not holding a press conference on the matter and vowed to expose flaws in the SIR process. 'Earlier, the BJP used agencies like the ED and CBI; now it is using the Election Commission,' Tejashwi said. Recalling the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Yadav alleged that he lost by 12,000 votes in one seat and that his party was deliberately made to lose 10 seats. 'This is all a game of vote theft,' he claimed. With the Assembly elections just months away, the voter list controversy is emerging as a flashpoint between the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan.

Congress questions BJP's Kerala Lok Sabha win amid ‘vote chori' row, complaint against MP Suresh Gopi
'His affidavit said he was a resident of Thrissur for six months. But that was not the case. His name, along with 14 other family members, appeared in the supplementary voter list. His vote is invalid, and it's a criminal offence,' Prathapan told media persons after filing the complaint. He said the same complaint had been filed with the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission, adding that the names of Gopi and his family are now listed in the voter rolls of Thiruvananthapuram district's Shasthamangalam for the local body polls. The Congress filed a police complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party MP Suresh Gopi, alleging that the actor-turned-politician had falsely claimed in his election affidavit that he had been a resident of Thrissur for six months. The complaint was submitted in person to the Thrissur City Police Commissioner by former MP and Congress leader T.N. Prathapan, District Congress Committee president Joseph Tajet, and former MLA Anil Akkara. The Thrissur Assistant Commissioner of Police will lead the probe. Thiruvananthapuram: As the Congress intensifies its protest in the National Capital against the Election Commission of India over alleged voter fraud in Bihar and Karnataka in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, its Kerala unit Tuesday approached the state police regarding alleged fraud in the Thrissur constituency, where the BJP secured its first-ever Lok Sabha victory in the state. He further claimed that a written complaint had been submitted to the Returning Officer during last year's election, saying that BJP was attempting large-scale voter fraud by registering outsiders at rented properties in the constituency, but it was ignored. 'According to the law, providing a false affidavit and getting a name included in a voter list invalidates that vote, and can even disqualify a person from Parliament. We have filed the complaint seeking criminal proceedings, and we believe the police will investigate and register a case. We will pursue the matter legally to the highest level,' Prathapan said, alleging that there are multiple cases of double voting orchestrated by the BJP, including Gopi's brother and close associate. Gopi won in the Thrissur seat with 4,12,338 votes, defeating Left Democratic Front's V.S. Sunil Kumar (3,37,652) and Congress's K. Muraleedharan (3,28,124). The complaint comes days after the Congress and Left accused the BJP of committing electoral fraud for their victory in the constituency. Muraleedharan claimed that Thrissur saw one of the sharpest voter roll increases in the state—about 47,000—between 2019 and 2024. 'If he truly won through such irregularities, he should resign on moral grounds. I wouldn't say he should resign otherwise, because if he stays, it's good for the UDF (United Democratic Front). The BJP will never win here again,' he remarked. Kerala General Education Minister V. Sivankutty said the Election Commission should order a re-poll in Thrissur. 'Suresh Gopi has been silent on the matter. That means he doesn't have a genuine explanation.' However, the BJP unit has maintained that Gopi's electoral victory was genuine and that the complaints stemmed from Congress's reluctance to admit defeat. 'Suresh Gopi won with over 75,000 votes. Why are they raising the complaint now after all these months? They will raise more complaints after the local body polls are over,' said advocate Nivedida Subramanian, president of BJP's Thrissur North unit. She said that the party will continue to add genuine voters and names of its supporters to the voters' list.
