Senior dies after rockslide in New Richmond, Que.
A man in his 80's died after a rockslide in New Richmond, over 100 kilometres from Gaspé, Que., according to provincial police.
They said emergency services were called to Henderson Beach on Saturday at around 9:45 a.m. where they found the man beside loose rocks.
According to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies, he was taken to hospital and police said they feared for his life.
His death was confirmed Saturday afternoon.
An investigation into the cause and circumstances surrounding the man's death is underway.
In a Facebook publication on Saturday, the municipality of New Richmond announced the closure of the site where the senior was injured until further notice, adding that civil security officials had been called in along with a team of ground movement experts to assess the area.
"We ask the public to rigorously follow the instructions and avoid all access to Henderson Beach," wrote the municipality.

Police say officers were called for reports of a swimmer that had gone missing after jumping out of a canoe into the water at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The OPP Marine Unit and firefighters were called to aid in the search. The man was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released. Silver Lake Provincial Park is located about 110 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa. An investigation is ongoing. Man identified after being found in burnt vehicle in Popkum, B.C.
After finding a man dead in a vehicle in B.C.'s Fraser Valley on July 27, police are now identifying the victim. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified 22-year-old Hamza Fazil of Surrey, B.C., as the deceased victim who was found in a burnt vehicle. Fazil was found in a vehicle around 11:35 p.m. on July 27, in the 52100-block of Cheam Road in Popkum, B.C., an area near Chilliwack close to cottage resorts and a water park. Police believe the incident was targeted with links to the B.C. gang conflict, according to an IHIT statement on Saturday. Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT said the investigation is still in its early stages. "Investigators are looking to build a timeline of Mr. Fazil's activities prior to the homicide," Sukhi said. "We would urge anyone with information about him or his activities in the days leading up to his death to contact investigators." IHIT says that Fazil was reported missing by his family members, and he was last seen around 9 p.m. on the day of his death in the 13300-block of Old Yale Road near Holland Park.
