OnePlus 13T Not Launching In US And Europe? Here's What We Know

Last Updated:
OnePlus 13T made its debut in China, and the Indian market is getting the 13s variant but what about the other countries?
OnePlus 13T made its debut in China last week, making it the latest compact flagship to enter the market this year. The 13T model has generated a lot of interest among readers, however, there is some disappointing news from OnePlus about this product. The company has confirmed that OnePlus 13T will not be available in markets like North America, and most likely in Europe as well.
According to a report by The Verge, OnePlus was quoted sharing the details. The brand has said that OnePlus 13T will not be available for sale in Europe, the United States, or Canada.
Celina Shi, OnePlus Europe's chief marketing officer, told The Verge in an email, 'Currently, we have no plans to launch the OnePlus 13s in Europe. That being said, we have noted the interest in the product from our European users, and we will keep it in mind as we make product launch decisions going forward."
OnePlus clearly sees more value in launching the OnePlus 13T in its important markets like India, where the product is getting rebranded as OnePlus 13s. To be fair, this rebranding sparked hopes for a potential US release, but OnePlus has been quick to douse the fire of excitement among its fans in America.
OnePlus has taken a measured approach with launches this year. The brand confirmed that the OnePlus Open foldable will not be getting a sequel in 2025, and it does not plan to launch the OnePlus Watch 3 model in India.
OnePlus 13T Price And Features
OnePlus 13T is priced at CNY 3,399 (Rs 39,000 approx) for the base variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in China.
The phone gets a compact 6.32-inch AMOLED LTPO display with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 2,400 nits, and Dolby Vision support. Under the hood, the device is powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage.
The 13T features a dual rear camera system, comprising a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens. In China, the phone runs on Android 15-based ColorOS and includes a new iPhone 16-like Quick Key action button for added convenience. Even for a compact phone, you get a 6,260 mAh battery that supports 80W charging.

India's wind sector must innovate and secure, not just scale

Amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, a Pakistani outlet claimed cyberattacks had knocked out 70 per cent of India's electricity. The false report exposed a very real anxiety: What happens when energy infrastructure becomes a frontline in cyber warfare? For years, the renewable energy sector has diligently optimised turbine efficiency, improved grid integration and focused on speedy deployment. These remain essential. However, an equally pressing threat looms quietly in the background: Cybersecurity and the pace of maximum value addition and localisation in manufacturing. Unlike finance or defence sectors, where digital safeguards have long been entrenched, robust cybersecurity measures are only now being introduced into India's renewable energy framework. And it's about time. A compromised SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system or remote-access breach could disable a wind farm — or multiple sites — in mere seconds. As India pushes towards achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-based electric installed capacity by 2030, including an ambitious target of over 100 GW from wind, the true challenge goes beyond just scaling up. It lies in securing what we install and how it is manufactured. The proposed amendment requires all operational wind turbine data to be stored within Indian territory. Foreign entities will no longer be allowed to remotely access or control Indian wind farms, a clear attempt to eliminate vulnerabilities to external cyber threats. More importantly, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will be required to establish R&D facilities in India, signalling a decisive shift from passive assembly to active domestic innovation. This aligns with NITI Aayog's 2024 roadmap, emphasising localisation of both hardware and control systems. Given the various global incidents where cyberattacks have crippled energy grids, India's push for digital self-reliance isn't just necessary — it's urgent. Mandating local R&D isn't just about job creation or investment; it's about creating wind turbine technology designed for India's grid, climate, and challenges. India — not China or Europe — must become the epicentre for wind turbine innovation and manufacturing. However, strong policy intent must translate into effective execution, and here the amendment stumbles. Firstly, there is a greater need to build capacity for enforcement. Without a concrete monitoring mechanism, these rules risk becoming paper mandates. Secondly, the amendment needs to articulate India-specific design adaptation clearly. Renewable energy projects here face extreme operating conditions — temperatures exceeding 45°C, saline coastal air, monsoon deluges, and erratic grid voltages. Yet, there is no mandate for in-country prototype testing or climate-resilience validation before inclusion in the RLMMs (Revised List of Models & Manufacturers). This oversight risks importing turbines built for European conditions that buckle under India's punishing climate. Third, the policy skirts the need for embedded systems security. Today, power converters used in wind turbines and solar inverters in solar projects are effectively software-defined assets. They depend on SCADA systems, PLCs, and firmware that may be compromised — often subtly and invisibly. Without mandatory audits of software stacks and hardware backdoors, especially from OEMs in adversarial jurisdictions, India's wind and solar assets remain vulnerable. To operate in India, vendors/OEMs must obtain certification and clearance from Indian authorities and adhere to Government of India (GOI) regulations. These regulations should include provisions for force majeure situations, where vendor/OEM-supplied equipment may fail to receive support and patches, potentially leading to significant security breaches and national security risks. This ensures that even in times of geopolitical uncertainty, India's energy infrastructure remains operable, supported, and secure. Additionally, existing regulatory frameworks — like the Central Electricity Authority's temperature thresholds or the National Institute of Wind Energy's certification protocols — are treated as optional references, not core requirements. This disconnect must be addressed if we want turbines that are not just 'Made in India' but truly Engineered for India. Satcom permit may force Starlink to share information on illegal kits seized

Elon Musk 's Starlink's satcom permit from the Indian government will make it mandatory for the company to share information, including details of users or owners of satellite kits seized in the country, particularly in the North-East region in the past few months, information the US company was unwilling to share earlier. India's security agencies have pointed out the misuse of Starlink devices in Indian territory, especially in the border areas, officials said. But the Musk company hasn't been cooperating in sharing details of those devices. Officials said Starlink asked the security agencies to put their requests either via the US law enforcement or international protocols. This had forced the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to write to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in March to investigate the matter, officials aware of the details told ET. The DoT is yet to submit a report to the MHA. But officials say, now that a satcom license has been given to Starlink, it will have no choice but to share those details. Else, the company could be issued a show cause notice and even face revocation of license. An ET query sent to SpaceX, parent of Starlink, remained unanswered. ETtech Live Events Various ministries coordinate when it comes to national security. Since commercial satellite communication services, particularly through low earth orbit (LEO) operators like Starlink, is a new phenomenon, its impact is yet to be ascertained. However, the security agencies have seized some terminals that were active in the Indian territory in the Northeast region and sought details of the owners. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories The DoT was asked to investigate the matter and take preventive measures to safeguard national interests. Experts believe that the situation may become more complicated as Bhutan and Bangladesh are now commercially offering Starlink services and the terminals may be smuggled into Indian territory as geofencing the exact location of the international border will have limitations. Security is topmost priority when it comes to satcom and so far, none of the three licensees-Bharti group-backer Eutelsat OneWeb, Reliance Jio-SES and Starlink-have got security clearances, hobbling commercial services. While Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio-SES joint ventures have got trial spectrum and conducted demonstrations for security requirements, Starlink is yet to be given such airwaves. The US company was given a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite permit only last week. Officials said while the Jio-SES demonstrations are almost over, it is expected to take more time for Eutelsat-OneWeb. Both OneWeb and Jio-SES have satcom permits and nods from space regulator IN-SPACe for over two years. In contrast, Starlink is yet to receive the nod from the regulator.
