Scottish Premiership could FINALLY have season of thrills, spills and chaos if chasing pack fulfil their promise, writes GARY KEOWN

There's been an encouraging amount of promise shown by a number of teams outside the Big Two in these embryonic stages of the season. With some big promises being made too.
Just how wonderful would it be if these early shoots of new life and stronger regrowth could carry on and bring about a campaign in which widespread jeopardy and disruption and unpredictability became part and parcel of the national sport?

Leah Williamson misses Arsenal training camp in Germany due to knee injury

England captain Leah Williamson will miss Arsenal's pre-season training camp in Germany to recover from a knee injury sustained in the European Championship final. The 28-year-old centre-back was in action for the entirety of that contest, won by the Lionesses in a penalty shoot-out with Spain to defend their title after the sides remained locked in a 1-1 stalemate after extra time. Arsenal captain Kim Little, midfielder Lia Walti and forward Jessie Gale will also remain in London. Little and Gale are both carrying knocks, while Walti is building back to fitness following a minor procedure earlier this month. Canada international Olivia Smith, who became the first £1million player in the women's game when she joined the Gunners in July, is also among the party travelling to Adidas HQ on Wednesday. Joining her is Michelle Agyemang, the 19-year-old forward who spent last season on loan to Brighton. Agyemang was named UEFA's Women's Euro 2025 Young Player of the Tournament after a standout two-goal performance at the championship.

Zola, Cole, Hazard - is Estevao of same ilk?

This weekend I was at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea's friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan. This was the entirety of their pre-season, the best prep they could muster to get ready for the toughest league campaign on the played well and hit the ground running, though no one will be surprised if they run into a brick wall part way through the season. The medical boffins have never suggested this sort of summer is anything like the right kind of preparation, but that is the madness of the football was a silver lining on these blazing hot sunny days. The Blues have a history of falling for small, talented creative players who the fans take to their hearts - they often reward them with player of the year of Joe Cole, Eden Hazard and Gianfranco Zola and you could even add Juan Mata and Charlie Cooke to the list. I mentioned this the other day on the TV commentary and a few folk were kind enough to suggest I should be on the list too. The fans certainly were kind to me, and I did get the Player of the Year a couple of times, but I would not presume to be in that important point is that there could be a new kid on the block. The 18-year-old Brazilian Estevao Willian fits the bill. Chelsea fans are head over heels already and I feel the same, after only two is early days and there are dangers along the road, but Estevao has the skill, confidence, vision, personality, game awareness and the pace. I cannot wait to watch him develop, enjoy the skills and hopefully watch him become a legendary player at the club. I am sure fans of other clubs will enjoy watching him too, he could be that up to read more from Pat Nevin in his Football Extra newsletterNot a Chelsea fan? Find and follow your club here

The Premier League clubs waging war on season-ticket holders

They are meant to be Premier League clubs' most loyal and valued supporters. Yet, ahead of the start of the world's richest league, teams stand accused of launching an unprecedented crackdown on their season-ticket holders. Millionaire and billionaire owners are facing a major revolt against policies opponents claim are forcing out so-called 'legacy fans' and risk them being replaced by bigger-spending 'football tourists'. An investigation by Telegraph Sport has found these policies include: Inflation-busting price rises, especially for pensioners Personal attendance targets and curbs on splitting usage with family and friends Increases in premium hospitality tickets A refusal to issue new season tickets Price hikes Almost two thirds of Premier League clubs have increased the cost of their adult season tickets this term, despite a revolt against such price hikes spearheaded by the Football Supporters' Association (FSA) and its 'Stop Exploiting Loyalty' campaign. Rises have ranged from 2.8 per cent at Fulham to 14 per cent at promoted Leeds United, with only Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley and Brentford freezing their prices. Pensioners have been hit by even bigger hikes at some clubs, most notoriously Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Manchester United, whose five per cent adult season ticket price rise was compounded by the halving of a 50 per cent discount previously offered to senior citizens. Fan group The 1958 said that effectively equated to a 57 per cent increase for United's 'most loyal generational fans who have supported the club for decades', loyalty that was put to the ultimate test last term amid what was the club's worst ever Premier League season. The 1958 added in a statement: 'This is the first phase of reducing the amount of season ticket holders. We have always campaigned [that] the club are trying to marginalise match-going fans. Cutting the 50 per cent OAP concession to 25 per cent for those who had it is a total disgrace.'
