Nissan Armada Nismo Unveiled As Most Powerful Armada Ever

Miami Herald2 days ago

The all-new Nissan Armada arrived for the 2025 model year, and it's a comprehensive improvement over the previous model. Now, for 2026, Nissan has injected the rugged Armada with even more power and capability, thanks to the introduction of the new Armada Nismo. Yes, the Nismo name now finds itself on a big SUV, not a compact sports car. This is the most powerful Armada yet and the first-ever Armada Nismo, so let's get into all the juicy details.
We'll start here, since any Nismo-badged model simply has to prioritize performance. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 in the Armada Nismo produces 460 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. That's the same torque as other Armadas, but the Nismo gets a 35-hp boost when running on premium gas. Different engine programming and fine-tuning of valve clearances have enabled the higher output for this model, which is more powerful than rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Jeep Wagoneer, and Ford Expedition.
A new exhaust system creates a meatier exhaust note, and an Active Sound Enhancement system further amplifies the V6's roar for the full enjoyment of occupants. A nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is equipped, but the Nismo doesn't have the electronic locking rear differential of the focused Pro-4X. As with other Armadas, the towing capacity is 8,500 lbs, but ground clearance drops from up to 9.9 inches in other models to 8.9 inches here, underlining the on-road focus of this model.
To go with its extra grunt, the Armada Nismo gets special tuning for the power steering and Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension. We doubt Nissan has been able to perform miracles here - this is still a four-wheel-drive SUV weighing over 6,100 pounds - but the Nismo should be a little more responsive.
If there is the same improvement in driver appeal that we saw between the normal Nissan Z and that car's Nismo derivative, the Armada Nismo should be quite a blast to drive by full-size SUV standards.
The Armada Nismo looks a lot meaner than other trims. The front/rear fascias, grille, rear spoiler, and side steps were all given a redesign. Fender flares and massive 22-inch forged wheels more than hint at this model's increased performance, while the high-performance all-season tires promise improvements in handling, acceleration, braking, and steering.
The most striking color is Nismo Stealth Gray with an available Super Black roof, which works well when combined with various red accents around the body. Black Diamond Pearl and Everest White Pearl with or without a Super Black roof are also available.
The racy vibe continues inside, where this model gains Nismo-specific quilted leather seats in a combination of charcoal and red. Multicolor ambient lighting, adjustable side bolsters for the front seats, and aluminum pedals are also added. This is also the only trim other than the Platinum Reserve to get front massaging seats.
Pricing for the new Nissan Armada Nismo hasn't been released yet, but we expect it to cost in the vicinity of the range-topping Platinum Reserve, which starts at $76,990 for the 2025 model year.
The 2026 Armada range will reach dealers this fall.

Nissan Unleashes 460 HP Armada NISMO

Summary Nissanis taking its full-size SUV into high-performance territory with the debut of the 2026 ArmadaNISMO. Tuned by the brand's in-house motorsports division, the new flagship variant delivers 460 hp from a twin-turbo 3.5L V6, making it the most powerful Armada ever produced. This 35-hp bump, available when using premium fuel, is paired with a less restrictive, louder exhaust system, amplifying the on-road driving experience. The Armada NISMO also features recalibrated electric power steering and an Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension for sharper, more engaging handling. The performance package is rounded out by exclusive forged wheels and high-performance NISMO tires. Visually, the SUV gets a bold transformation with a revised front and rear fascia, fender flares, red-painted brake calipers and a new rear spoiler. A unique Stealth Gray paint option completes the aggressive look. Inside, the upgrades continue with quilted leather-appointed seats featuring red accents, adjustable seat bolsters, aluminum pedals and NISMO badging throughout. Nissan's new NISMO variant joins the existing Armada trims — SV, SL, Platinum, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve — and represents the sportiest version of the lineup. The new NISMO Armada is expected to arrive at dealerships this fall.

The Nissan Armada Nismo Takes Performance Up a (Small) Notch

The Armada Nismo is a higher-performance version of the brand's largest and toughest SUV. This is more than just an appearance package; the Nismo team has made a few meaningful changes that should make the Armada genuinely sportier to drive, if only just. What's new? The first thing you'll notice about the Armada Nismo is that body kit. The Nismo team redesigned the front and rear fascias, plus added fender flares (that look just a little too wide), exclusive side steps, a rear spoiler, and a positively massive grille. There are also red accents around the exterior, as well as unique 22-inch wheels. The look won't be for everyone, but it certainly plays into the performance image Nissan is going for, and supposedly enhances the chunky SUV's aerodynamics too. Under the hood is the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 you'll find in other Armadas, but it's been retuned to make 460 horsepower — 35 more ponies than other trims, and even 10 more than the Armada's more luxurious cousin, the Infiniti QX80. Nissan says the extra power was achieved through revised engine programming and fine-tuning of valve clearances. Additionally, and unlike other Armadas, the Nismo requires premium fuel to unlock maximum power. The extra 35 horsepower in a vehicle that weighs 6,102 pounds is unlikely to yield much in the way of quicker acceleration, but at least it's something.

5 Japanese Cars That Will Have Massive Price Drops in the Summer of 2025

Americans looking for a deal on a Japanese car should keep a close eye on the market this summer. Several popular models are expected to see significant price drops, mainly due to inventory surpluses, model phase-outs, and shifting consumer preferences. According to Lauren Fix, automotive expert at Car Coach Reports, the summer of 2025 will be a prime time for buyers to negotiate aggressively and shop around for the best deals. Trending Now: Explore More: Best-Selling Cars report that the Japanese car market contracted 7.5% in 2024, with Toyota and Nissan facing tariffs and a shift toward hybrids over electric vehicles (EVs). Dealers will be motivated to clear out older inventory, especially in June and July, so buyers should be ready to take advantage of these rare opportunities. Here are five Japanese cars that are likely to have massive price drops in the coming months. The Nissan Z has long been a favorite among sports car fans, but the 2024 and 2025 models are facing new challenges. According to Car and Driver, the Z's retro styling and 400-horsepower engine make it a fun ride, yet it is still based on older 370Z underpinnings. The excitement that drove early markups has faded, and Nissan's Z sports car is already seeing some of the biggest discounts in years. With up to $4,000 off the 2024 model, the CarBuzz report shows this puts the price for a base Z close to $40,000, undercutting rivals like the Toyota Supra by a wide margin. Lauren Fix noted that the Z's popularity has led to market saturation, and dealers are eager to move current stock. She explained that competition from the Toyota Supra and upcoming electric sports cars is also pushing dealers to discount Z models even further. Check Out: Toyota's first electric SUV, the bZ4X, has struggled to compete with rivals like Tesla and Ford, leading to a major price cut for 2025. Car and Driver reported that the 2025 bZ4X XLE now starts at $38,465, a $6,000 drop compared to the previous year. Kelley Blue Book added that slow sales and excess inventory have pushed Toyota to offer shocking lease deals and free charging to entice buyers. Fix said that with Americans still preferring hybrids over full EVs, dealers are expected to keep offering discounts to move the bZ4X off lots this summer. Subaru is ending production of the Legacy sedan in spring 2025, after 36 years on the market, due to Americans shifting away from sedans toward SUVs and crossovers. Prices for the 2025 Legacy start at $24,895 and have held steady, but sales have dropped by 13% year-over-year, making it one of Subaru's slowest sellers. According to Carscoops, dealers are expected to offer aggressive deals to move the last of the inventory, especially as the final models arrive this summer. Fix said that discontinued models like the Legacy often see the steepest price drops as dealers make room for more popular SUVs. The Honda Passport is facing a major redesign for 2026, and the 2025 models are already being offered with deep discounts. CarsDirect found $3,400 in hidden savings on the 2025 Passport, thanks to dealer cash incentives and the need to clear out old stock. According to the 2025 Passport starts at $43,795, but buyers have a strong negotiating position as the new model arrives and the current version looks outdated. Fix explained that Americans who do not want to pay more for the redesigned 2026 Passport can find excellent deals on the outgoing model this summer. The Nissan Altima is being phased out, and that means big savings for Americans willing to buy before it disappears. According to RealCarTips, discounts of 5% to 6% off MSRP are already common, with the 2025 Altima SV FWD averaging $26,877 against a sticker price of $28,570. CarEdge's Zach Shefska told GOBankingRates that discontinued models almost always see deep summer discounts as dealers clear the last units. Lauren Fix also pointed out that new competitors and changing tastes are making the Altima an even better deal for shoppers this summer.
