RTC staff to stage protests across state on July 4 & 5
The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees' Union announced on Tuesday that it will stage statewide protests and conduct gate meetings at all 129 RTC depots on July 4 and 5.
These demonstrations are a protest against the government's and RTC management's inaction in resolving their pending problems. RTC employees plan to wear red badges at the depots to express their discontent.
The decision came during the APPTD state executive body meeting here, where the union discussed its long-standing grievances. The union's state meeting urged the government to immediately resolve critical issues affecting thousands of RTC employees across the state.
Union leaders submitted a representation to APPTD commissioner and APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, detailing their demands and asking the RTC management to address them.
APPTD Employees' Union president Palisetty Damodara Rao and general secretary G V Narasaiah raised several key demands. They stated that 3,000 RTC employees have been waiting for promotions for over six years and urged the RTC management to secure approval from the state government to grant these promotions.
They also pressed the RTC to obtain government approval to recruit 10,000 new staff in the APSRTC and to purchase new buses. This recruitment and fleet expansion, they noted, are essential to support the implementation of the free travel facility for women from August 15, 2025, onwards.
The union has also sought release of pending DA arrears and 11th PRC arrears, and immediate settlement of retirement benefits for employees, including the immediate disbursement of gratuity and leave encashment to retired personnel.
Furthermore, they demanded that the RTC management implement the Retired Employees Medical Scheme (REMS) according to guidelines issued by the CEO of NTR Vaidya Vidhana Parishat Trust.
They also insisted that the RTC procure electric buses directly and hand them over to APSRTC, thereby avoiding the leasing of depots to private operators. Finally, the union urged the RTC to train existing RTC staff to operate new electric buses, restore referral hospital-based medical services under the old system, offer alternative posts to medically unfit employees, and implement pending compassionate appointments.

APSRTC employees union seeks immediate resolution of key issues
The A.P. State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Employees' Union, in its 74-year journey, has not only secured several rights and welfare measures for RTC workers but also played a key role in the historic merger of the corporation with the State government, said Andhra Pradesh JAC Amaravati Chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu. Speaking at an event marking the union's 74th anniversary on Friday, Mr. Venkateswarlu recalled the long-standing efforts for the merger, pursued since 1952 and finally realised in 2020. While the merger was a milestone, he said it initially led to the suspension of several benefits, including incentives and compassionate appointments. These issues were later resolved through a 92-day agitation jointly led by AP JAC Amaravati and the Employees' Union during the previous government's tenure. Mr. Venkateswarlu informed that a representation was recently submitted to M. Ravi Chandra, Secretary to the Chief Minister, seeking redressal of the pending issues. He reaffirmed the AP JAC's full support for the cause of the Public Transport Department employees. He appreciated the government for ensuring timely disbursal of salaries and pensions but highlighted employee concerns over pending dues, the long-overdue 12th Pay Revision Commission, and the absence of Interim Relief, which he said were leading to growing dissatisfaction among the workforce. A.P. Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees' Union State president P. Damodar Rao urged the government to clear long-pending promotions held up for over six years. Pointing out that nearly 25% of APSRTC buses had been leased to private operators, he demanded that the proposed induction of electric buses into the RTC fleet should be operated solely by RTC staff. He said successful implementation of the proposed free bus travel scheme for women would require immediate recruitment of 10,000 new employees and addition of 3,000 buses. He also pressed for the restoration of medical services through a referral hospital system, payment of pending gratuity and leave encashment for retired staff, and job security for outsourced workers. Representatives from various employees' associations also participated in the event.

Bad Loans Shrinking, ARCs Need New Business Model: Crisil
Mumbai: Crisil has called for a shift in the business model of private asset reconstruction companies (ARCs), warning that their assets under management (AUM) are likely to shrink further as the stock of bad loans dwindles. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now AUM, measured through outstanding security receipts (SRs), is expected to fall 4–6% to around Rs 1.05 lakh crore in FY26, following a 15% drop last year, which included a one-time Rs 13,000 crore write-off by a large ARC. Even without this, SR issuances dropped 29% to Rs 22,000 crore in FY25 from Rs 31,000 crore in FY24. Redemptions have outpaced acquisitions for two consecutive years, aided by younger asset vintages, faster churn in retail pools, and more cash deals. With gross NPAs in the corporate segment falling below 2%, fresh acquisition opportunities are scarce. Additionally, the govt-backed NARCL has gained a competitive edge in acquiring large corporate loans due to its guarantee-backed SR model. Retail acquisitions, which had slowed due to operational complexity, may see a partial revival. 'Retail acquisitions could see some pick-up this fiscal for two reasons,' said Subha Sri Narayanan, director at Crisil Ratings. 'One, there is an uptick in delinquencies in certain segments, such as microfinance and unsecured loans. Two, the regulations have become more conducive.' She pointed to recent rules that allow ARCs to settle loans under Rs 1 crore without committee approval and formally permit the selling lender to act as servicer. However, she added, 'Such acquisitions may not necessarily be AUM-accretive given the relatively higher discount rates in retail pools.' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The short term outlook of ARC industry is linked to issuance of final guidelines on Securitization of Stressed Assets and how market responds to it. I believe originators would have a natural preference for this market based model in respect of small and mid sized loans, instead of going legal with attendant delay in admission and disposal of cases. The volume of stressed assets in market is set to increase and ARCs with nearly two decades resolution experience will have the head start and the preferred choice as Resolution Manager( ReM ) and provide additional business for ARC beyond AUM". Hari Hara Mishra, CEO, Association of ARCs in India. The RBI's draft guidelines issued in Apr 2025 propose a new route for bad loan resolution—securitisation through special purpose entities (SPEs), which can appoint resolution managers (ReMs), including ARCs. 'They can look to build asset-light, fee-based business models by leveraging the existing resolution infrastructure and expertise,' said Aesha Maru, associate director at Crisil Ratings. According to Crisil, such a pivot could help ARCs reduce dependence on acquisition-linked income and sustain operations through resolution fees. Long-term viability, Crisil noted, will depend on agility, innovation, and the ability to demonstrate value in a more competitive landscape.
