Cabinet greenlights ₹4,250 crore to boost infra, empower vulnerable groups in Assam and Tripura

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved four new components under the existing Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages (SDPs) for Assam and Tripura with a total outlay of ₹4,250 crore.According to a Cabinet statement, ₹500 crore will be given for the development of infrastructure in Adivasi-inhabited villages/areas of Assam as per the Memoranda of Settlement (MoS) signed by the Central government and the Assam government with the Adivasi groups of Assam.Through this, lakhs of people across Adivasi and Dimasa communities in Assam, people residing in various other districts of Assam and tribal communities of Tripura will benefit."₹500 crore for development of infrastructure in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) area of Dimasa National Liberation Army/Dimasa People's Supreme Council inhabited villages/areas of Assam as per the MoS signed by the Government of India and Government of Assam with the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA)/Dimasa People's Supreme Council (DPSC) Groups of Assam," an official statement read.The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also cleared ₹3,000 crore for the development of infrastructure in Assam as per the MoS signed by the Centre and the state government with the ULFA groups of Assam."₹250 crore for development of tribals of Tripura as per the MoS signed by the Government of India and Government of Tripura with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) Groups of Tripura," the Cabinet said.The overall outlay of the proposed four new components will be ₹7,250 crore, out of which ₹4,250 crore will be provided under the existing Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages for Assam (₹4,000 crore) and Tripura (₹250 crore), and the remaining ₹3,000 crore will be contributed by the Assam government from their resources.Out of ₹4,250 crore, an outlay of ₹4,000 crore for a period of five yeafrom Financial Year 2025-26 to 2029-30 is for three components of Assam and an outlay of ₹250 crore for a period of four yea₹from Financial Year 2025-26 to 2028-29 is for one component of Tripura.The scheme will promote equity through improving the socio-economic condition of vulnerable and marginalised groups of people who have not benefited adequately from various existing government schemes; boost employment opportunities, provide health services, promote education and skilling and income through livelihood activities for youth and women; and increase the inflow of tourists from other parts of the country.--IANSna/vd

Nagpur: The ticket booking for Nagpur-Pune and Pune-Nagpur Vande Bharat opened for the public on Sunday when its inaugural run was flagged off by PM Narendra Modi virtually. Within hours of the booking opening, both Vande Bharat trains scheduled for Monday and Tuesday saw a booking of over 30% by 8 pm on Sunday. TOI checked the booking status online and found that by 8 pm on Sunday, the Pune to Nagpur Vande Bharat Express saw an overall booking of 39%. Interestingly, the expensive executive chair car, which costs around Rs3,725 per seat, saw a booking of 32 seats (61.54%) out of the total 52 seats. Similarly, out of the 478 chair car seats, 175 or 36.61% were booked. The seat costs around Rs2,040. Meanwhile, the fare of the Nagpur to Pune Vande Bharat Express is higher by around Rs100 than its opposite route. The first regular Vande Bharat from Nagpur to Pune will start on Tuesday, and by Sunday at 8 pm, it saw an overall booking of 34%. Out of 52 executive chair car seats, 29 were booked for a Rs3,815 per seat fare, which is around 55%. Similarly, out of the 478 chair car seats, which cost around Rs2,140, 152 or 31% were booked. Meanwhile, the higher rates of the express also shocked many, including a few railway officials, who claimed that the fares would be around Rs1,500 and Rs3,000. The rate of the express is also higher as it imposes around Rs450 to Rs540 as catering charges. However, there are some apprehensions among the citizens as they claim the food charges are very high. Similarly, the fares for chair car seats are higher than sleeper, third AC, and second AC of other sleeper trains running on the route. The fare of the executive chair seat is higher than the First AC seat of any of the trains.

PM to inaugurate flats for MPs on Monday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a 27-storey apartment of 184 newly constructed flats for members of Parliament (MP) at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in central Delhi's Connaught Place on Monday morning. The complex has 184 Type-VII flats, each with a carpet area of 5,000 square feet. (PTI) Officials said the PM will also plant a Sindoor sapling (bixa orellana) at the residential complex and interact with the construction workers of the project. The inauguration event will start at 10am on Monday. A senior traffic police official said the traffic movement will be briefly affected in the area around the Gol Dak Khana during the entry and exit of the convoy. No large scale diversions are planned, the officer said. The complex has 184 Type-VII flats, each with a carpet area of 5,000 square feet, five bedrooms, dedicated office spaces for MPs and their assistants, and two additional rooms for support staff. Amenities will include power backup, firefighting systems, integrated structural safety features, and an energy-efficient green building design. 'Each residential unit offers ample space for both residential and official functions. The inclusion of dedicated areas for offices, staff accommodation, and a community centre will support MPs in fulfilling their responsibilities as public representatives,' an official government statement said. 'Incorporating green technology, the project adheres to the standards of the GRIHA 3-star rating and complies with the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. These environmentally sustainable features are expected to contribute to energy conservation, renewable energy generation, and effective waste management,' the statement added. Work on the project was completed within 30 months, officials said. 'Use of advanced construction technology — monolithic concrete with aluminium shuttering — enabled timely completion of the project while ensuring structural durability,' the statement said. The buildings are said to be earthquake-resistant and a comprehensive and robust security system has also been implemented. Other common amenities will include a two-level underground parking facility for 500 vehicles, a community centre, and shops to cater to daily requirements within the premises. The project cost was approximately ₹550 crore and all buildings are expected to have a shelf life of 100 years. The government has stated that the development of the project was necessitated due to shortage of adequate housing for MPs. 'Owing to the limited availability of land, there has been a sustained emphasis on vertical housing developments aimed at optimizing land use and minimizing maintenance costs. This residential complex, situated at BKS Marg, New Delhi, offers significant locational advantages for the MPs, particularly due to its proximity to the Parliament house complex,' the report mentioned.

Man tries to jump barricade, intercepted
PM Modi flags off Vande Bharat Express train In what may be considered a security breach, a man attempted to jump a barricade for a closer look at PM Narendra Modi, whose convoy was passing South End Circle in Bengaluru on Sunday. However, police restrained him and escorted him away. He was let off after a warning. Crowds had gathered in the park at the circle to catch a glimpse of the PM, who was travelling from KSR Railway Station - after flagging off three Vande Bharat trains - to Ragi Gudda Metro Station for Yellow Line inauguration in Bengaluru. The man jumped over the park's grill, landed on the footpath, and moved towards the barricade before being intercepted by security personnel.
