Mohamed Usuf steps up as Kuala Lumpur's acting police chief, pledges safer city
He replaces Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, who was appointed director of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) on June 25.
The handover-of-duties ceremony was held at the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK) and witnessed by Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, director of Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.
Hamzah, in his speech, said the handover-of-duties ceremony was not merely symbolic or an administrative process, but reflected trust, responsibility, and the determination to uphold that trust for the benefit of the people and the nation.
He also congratulated Mohamed Usuf on his appointment as acting Kuala Lumpur police chief until a new chief is named.
'I am confident that with his extensive experience, credibility, and leadership, this contingent will continue to achieve success, maintain stability, and earn the respect of the community,' he said.
Meanwhile, Rusdi, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police personnel for their commitment to ensuring the success of various initiatives throughout his more than a year of service.
'I urge them to continue carrying this responsibility with an unwavering spirit. We are not only safeguarding security but also upholding the trust of the community and the future of the nation,' he said.
Earlier, speaking at the Kuala Lumpur police chief's monthly assembly, Rusdi said index crime statistics in Kuala Lumpur for the first six months of this year recorded a 28 per cent drop compared with the same period last year.
'Violent crime decreased by 29 per cent, from 790 cases in 2024 to 563 cases in 2025 for the same period. Property crime also recorded a 27 per cent drop, from 3,377 cases in 2024 to 2,453 cases this year,' he added. — Bernama

Johor cops to charge father of boy found buried in Negeri Sembilan

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Johor police will file two charges against the father of six-year-old A Tishant, whose body was found buried in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, last month. State police chief M Kumar said the 36-year-old man will be charged in a Johor Bahru court with assaulting his wife and filing a false missing person's report, Utusan Malaysia reported. However, he said, the charges will only be filed after the murder probe by the Jempol police headquarters is completed. 'In Johor, the investigation against the suspect only involves Sections 323 and 324 of the Penal Code; Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code for allegedly assaulting his wife, as well as Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. 'We have already received instructions to charge the suspect, and this will be done after the murder investigation under Section 302 is completed,' he was quoted as saying at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters today. Tishant was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri, on July 24. His body was found four days later, after his father's arrest. An autopsy revealed the boy was strangled with a cable tie. Kumar said police first received a report from the suspect's wife on July 22, alleging domestic abuse and that the man had taken their only child away. He said the suspect was arrested but later released on police bail. He then filed a report claiming he had left his son alone in the car and returned to discover that the boy was missing. However, inconsistencies in his statement led to his re-arrest and, after further questioning, the child's body was discovered.

He has directed Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure the probe is conducted swiftly and comprehensively. 'There was a death recently, and the Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek) is being attacked and accused of various things. What has become of our country? This death is not a trivial matter,' he said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day 2025 here on Sunday. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. On Saturday, Mohd Khalid said the investigation paper regarding Zara Qairina's death had been completed and would be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action. Police have recorded statements from 60 witnesses, including students and staff of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan, and three individuals nicknamed 'Kak Wana,' 'Kak Dedeng,' and 'Tomboi' who were cited in social media rumors. The probe focuses on two angles: the cause of death (including possible bullying) and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
