Cape Town City were unable to stamp their authority early in the Premier Soccer League promotion playoffs as they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Orbit College at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The result means the Rustenburg-based side now tops the mini-league standings with two points after completing two fixtures, while City's next challenge will be against Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens, who ended the Premiership campaign second from bottom, launched their quest to preserve their top-flight status against Orbit, who secured second place in the NFD Motsepe Foundation Championship, with both teams vying for promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.
In the previous season, Richards Bay FC managed to avoid relegation by defeating Baroka FC and the University of Pretoria, and City will be eager to replicate that accomplishment.
However, they must raise their performance level in the mini-league, having only managed seven victories from 28 matches during the recently concluded Betway Premiership season.

'It's 11 vs 11, Sundowns will do well'
It's nearly time for the Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to face the ultimate test at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. Sundowns, known as 'The Brazilians,' jetted out of the OR Tambo International Airport last Sunday before camping in Florida. The tournament will feature the world's biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain, holders of the UEFA Champions League. Two released Orlando Pirates players never complained Mamelodi Sundowns team vs Raja Casablanca. Image: @safootclassics/X The Brazilians in Group F will battle Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, the Brazilian giants Fluminense, and Ulsan HD from South Korea. 'All these teams are quality teams. They've done very well to be there, but Sundowns is a good team, and they can do well against them,' Feutmba told KickOff . Rumours: Kaizer Chiefs have signed these four players 'In football, it's not about where you come from, it's always about your desire to win a game. When I was playing for Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup, we beat Argentina when nobody expected us to. We did it because of the mindset and spirit. 'It's 11 against 11. It depends on how you prepare, it depends on the stage going into that game. So Sundowns have a team good enough to do well there. 'Most of the Sundowns players are the national team players, so they have what it takes to get out of that group alive. So the country will benefit a lot from the experience they will gain in this tournament. 'I know Sundowns will do well. Football is football. It's played the same way everywhere. They will get out of their group, Sundowns; they have the team,' Feutmba concluded. Two released Orlando Pirates players never complained
Orlando Pirates made big decisions last month. The captain, Innocent Maela, and his vice skipper, Miguel Timm, left the Buccaneers after a combined 274 matches in the Betway Premiership. The club's veteran former skipper, Lucky Lekgwathi, has shared wisdom and gratitude towards the departed left-back and midfielder. Timm is linked with a move to fellow Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United, while Maela is set to take up a staff role at Orlando Pirates. Rumours: Kaizer Chiefs have signed these four players Lekgwathi believes the club made the right decision, while also saluting the duo for always remaining professional when opportunities to play dried up. 'For me, I think it was a good decision, as I believe that both guys played their part and contributed to the team over the years. Players come and go, and the club had to make a decision,' said Lekgwathi via Soccer Laduma . Image: Kick Off 'I believe both guys played a big role in the club's progress, and they deserve a pat on the back for their contribution. You know, with some players, if they were regulars and played a big part when the club won trophies, they tend to complain when they are no longer playing as regularly, but with Maela and Timm, I don't remember that ever happening. 'The guys remained professional, and they led by example. They were good examples to the young players in the team. I am sure even the chairman was happy with the guys for the role they played in the team during their time. I am so proud of them, and I just want to wish them good luck going forward,' added Lekgwathi. New Orlando Pirates winger: 'I can attack and I can defend' 'They still have age on their side, and they can still play if they wish,' Lekgwathi added. 'Age is just a number, and I remember that in my late 30s I was still playing, and I was scoring crucial goals for the team, and I believe they can also do it with their experience,' concluded Lekgwathi. This was Orbit's second match after they opened with the same scoreline against their fellow national first division rivals Casric Stars FC on Wednesday.
