Himachal: 358 roads closed amid rain, landslides

Shimla, Aug 8 (PTI) With light to moderate rain in the past 24 hours, landslides and flash floods continued in various locations across Himachal Pradesh, and a total of 358 roads, including two national highways, were closed on Friday, officials said.
The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway 21, which was opened after 40 hours on Thursday afternoon, was closed again on Friday following a landslide in Mandi district, while the Auto-Sainj road NH 305 was blocked near Jahed and Banjar in Kullu district.
Reports of damage to private orchards have also poured in from the Narkanda-Shilaroo area of the Shimla district as floods from drains entered the lands.
A landslide occurred on the road in front of the famous Baba Balak Nath Temple, Diyotsiddha, in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
The local MeT office issued a yellow warning of heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in three to six districts on Saturday and Sunday, and an orange alert of heavy rains in isolated areas of the state from Monday to Thursday.
Light to moderate rains lashed a few parts of the state, and Narkanda received 49.5 mm of rain since Thursday night, followed by Kufri 47.5 mm, Nahan 42.1 mm, Bajaura 17 mm, Dharamshala 6.8 mm and Shimla 6 mm.
Of the total closed roads, 206 were blocked in Mandi district while 100 roads were closed in the adjoining Kullu district on Thursday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
The road restoration works are going on in full swing, but bad weather conditions are obstructing the work, officials said.
Around 112 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon, so far, while 37 are missing. Additionally, 599 transformers and 177 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said.
Since the onset of monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,988 crore. The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts and 51 major landslides, so far. PTI BPL MPL MPL

The search for the missing in the flood-ravaged Dharali also continued, with the help of SDRF sniffer dogs and state-of-the-art equipment such as victim locating and thermal imaging cameras. The SDRF is also preparing to deploy its divers with rafts to aid the ongoing search operations, officials said.

Air quality in city satisfactory, more rain likely
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) The national capital on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius, 7.8 notches below the season's average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorm with rain and the maximum temperature expected to settle around 29 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was recorded at 95 per cent at 8:30 am. The air quality was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category at 9 am on Sunday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 68, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'. Light rain expected in parts of Delhi today, no alert issued
Delhi witnessed clear skies on Sunday after a day of heavy rainfall lashing the national capital. Light rain with thundershowers is expected today, but there's no alert issued as of this morning. Heavy downpour that started early morning on Saturday continued throughout the day, which led to the death of eight people. (PTI) The weather today in Delhi is expected to remain partly cloudy with a possibility of very light to light rain or thundershowers, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 28-30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will remain between 23- 25 degrees Celsius. In an X post IMD on Sunday morning said that light rainfall is very likely to occur at Bhiwari, Tizara, Kotputli (Rajasthan). Meanwhile, drizzle is very likely at isolated places of Delhi ( Burari, Badili, Model Town, Azadpur, Kalkaji, Tughlakabad), NCR ( Noida, Ballabhgarh), Rohtak, Rewari (Haryana). In the NCR areas, no warning has been issued for Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Palwal, Sonipat, Sirsa, and others. In Haryana, a yellow alert has been issued for Hisar, Bhiwani, and Mahendragarh for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. A yellow alert has also been issued in parts of Uttar Pradesh, including in Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Lakhimpur Kheri, Basti, and others. Meanwhile, the continuous rains yesterday kept the maximum temperature at 26.4°C, which was the lowest for August in at least 34 years, according to IMD.
