On Friday afternoon the Liverpool forward's wife Rute and family members attended a private wake at Sao Cosme Chapel with priest Jose Manuel Macedo set to oversee the funeral at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar catholic church.
Manchester City star Bernardo Silva was among the footballing stars who visited the wake to pay tribute to his ex-Portugal team-mate.
Welcome all.
Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, will be laid to rest this morning following the tragic death of the pair on Thursday.
The pair were travelling in a Lamborghini near Zamora in Spain when it veered off the road and burst into flames, killing both before emergency services arrived.
Tributes have been flooding in following news of the tragedy and a wake in Gondomar, where the pair grew up, was attended by thousands of mourners on Friday - including a delegation from Liverpool.
Today's funeral, starting this morning, is set to be similarly attended, both in the church and outside.
It promises to be another extremely emotional day.

Ronaldo misses Jota's funeral after emotional tribute to late teammate
Diogo Jota was laid to rest on Saturday morning, with a host of his Liverpool and Portugal teammates in attendance - but Cristiano Ronaldo was not present. Cristiano Ronaldo was notably absent from Diogo Jota's funeral on Saturday morning, as the football world mourned the loss of the player and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain. Jota was honoured in his hometown of Gondomar, near Porto, Portugal, where he and his brother were laid to rest. The service saw an outpouring of support from Jota's Liverpool colleagues, members of the Portugal national squad, and his ex-Wolves teammates. Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were spotted bringing red floral tributes into the church, while Portuguese footballers Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, and Joao Neves also attended the ceremony held at the Chapel of the Resurrection. Neves, a close friend and former teammate of Jota at both Wolves and on the international stage, was one of those carrying the coffin into the church after arriving from the United States, where he had been competing in the Club World Cup with Al-Hilal. However, Ronaldo, the captain of the Portugal team, did not join the gathering of mourners at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar catholic church. According to Mirror Football, Ronaldo was concerned that his appearance in the small town might detract from the solemn occasion. In recent days, he has chosen to stay out of the public eye, spending time with his family instead, reports the Mirror. Ronaldo did, however, share a heartfelt message on social media following the announcement of Jota's death on Thursday, expressing his disbelief and sorrow: "It doesn't make sense. We were just together in the national team, and you had just gotten married. "To your family, your wife and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you." At the solemn gathering, Liverpool figures such as Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson stood united with teammates Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and the new gaffer Arne Slot. Former Reds Caoimhin Kelleher, Jordan Henderson and James Milner also joined to pay their respects. The tragedy unfolded when Jota and his brother tragically passed away following a horrific car accident involving a Lamborghini in north west Spain that led to the vehicle catching fire last Thursday. The burial came after a private family observance on Friday, attended by Jota's spouse Rute Cardoso, whom he had just wedded the previous month, and close relatives. The Portuguese Football Federation expressed their sadness, stating: "Diogo Jota was not only a fantastic player with almost 50 caps for the national team, but also an extraordinary person who was respected by all his team-mates and opponents. He had a contagious joy and was a reference point in his own community." They continued, "On behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation and myself, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Diogo and Andre as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the respective clubs of the players. "We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honour their legacy every day."

Diogo Jota's wife and family joined by Liverpool players for funeral in Portugal
Diogo Jota's wife and family have been joined by Liverpool players for the funeral of the forward and his brother in Portugal following their death in a car crash in Spain. The father-of-three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso 11 days before the accident, died alongside his brother, Andre Silva, after a Lamborghini they were travelling in burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout in the early hours of Thursday morning. The coffins of Jota and Silva were carried into Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church in the town of Gondomar near Porto on Saturday morning, followed by mourners. A church bell tolled and crowds applauded as the brothers' coffins were carried into the church, followed by mourners, some with their arms around each other. Others seen arriving at the church included Reds manager Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk and team-mates including Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez. Also at the funeral for the Portugal international were his national team-mates Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva of Manchester City, Joao Felix and Renato Veiga of Chelsea, Nelson Semedo from Wolves, Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio and Ruben Neves, as well as former Liverpool player Fabinho, Porto president Andre Villas-Boas and Portugal manager Roberto Martinez. Some of the players carried wreaths shaped like football shirts as they arrived at the church. Family and friends gathered for the brothers' wake on Friday, with a queue forming outside the Portuguese chapel. The brothers' parents attended the Sao Cosme Chapel, the Capela da Ressurreicao, in Gondomar, with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and Jota's agent also there. People held service sheets featuring pictures of both brothers, the largest one showing Jota smiling in his Liverpool shirt and making a heart sign with his hands. Liverpool postponed the return of their players for pre-season following Jota's death and players past and present paid tribute to him and his brother on social media. A sea of floral tributes had been left outside Anfield, with many Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs looking to pay their respects. Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the stadium and all club stores, museums and tours have been closed until Monday, with staff offered wellbeing support. Jota and Silva were found dead after the car crashed on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday. Police said they were investigating the possibility that the Lamborghini left the road because of a tyre blowout while overtaking, and a source from the government sub-delegation in Zamora confirmed 'a possible speeding incident' was being looked at. Pictures of the aftermath of the crash showed debris scattered along the side of the road including what appeared to be charred parts of the vehicle.

Kyle Walker leaves Man City for Burnley on two-year deal
England defender Kyle Walker has joined Burnley on a two-year deal. Walker joins the newly-promoted Premier League side from Manchester City, where he had a year remaining on his contract. He had started as club captain of City last season, but finished on loan with AC Milan and was not part of Pep Guardiola's squad for this summer's Club World Cup. We are delighted to confirm the signing of England international Kyle Walker. The experienced defender has put pen to paper on a two-year deal ✍️ — Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) July 5, 2025 A move to Turf Moor reunites Walker with former Tottenham and England team-mate Scott Parker, who helped Burnley reach the top-flight with a second-place finish in last season's Championship. The 35-year-old said: 'I'm delighted to be here. When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. 'He's done an amazing job here, guiding the Club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we're looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world. 'Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can't wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.' In eight years with City, he has won 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one Champions League and was part of their treble-winning team. Walker has also been a key cog for England having been capped 96 times. He becomes Burnley's fifth signing this summer as they look to strengthen for their return to the top-flight with Max Weiss, Quilindschy Hartman, Axel Tuanzebe and Loum Tchouana all joining, while Bashir Humphreys, Marcus Edwards, Zian Flemming and Jaidon Anthony's loan deals have all been made permanent.
