BC welfare minister directs special care for hostel students

Hans India30-06-2025
Tadepalli: Minister for BC, EWS Welfare, Handlooms and Textiles Savitha on Sunday urged wardens of BC hostels to exercise extreme caution and provide special attention to students during the ongoing monsoon season. She specifically instructed that only fresh food and boiled, cooled water should be provided to the students.
Minister Savitha's directives came during a felicitation by representatives of the State BC Hostel Welfare Officers Association on Sunday, marking her completion of one year as the State BC Welfare Minister.
With the new academic year commencing and the monsoon season underway, Minister Savitha stressed the importance of special care for students. She explicitly instructed the provision of fresh food and boiled and cooled water to all hostel residents. Wardens were advised to ensure immediate medical services from available doctors if students exhibit symptoms such as colds, headaches, or fever.
The Minister announced that she is actively working towards an increase in diet charges for hostel students. She confirmed that the matter has already been brought to the attention of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
She noted that a decision on diet charge revisions would likely cover not only BC hostels but also those under the Social and Tribal Welfare departments, with an announcement expected soon.
Savitha also assured that she would raise the issues of filling vacant Class IV positions, HWO (Hostel Welfare Officer) vacancies, and the promotions of ABCWO (Assistant BC Welfare Officer) with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The minister stated that students in hostels faced significant hardships due to the negligence of the previous government. She highlighted that the current coalition government, immediately after coming to power, has begun allocating funds and working towards resolving these issues.
The representatives of the State BC Hostel Welfare Officers Association submitted a memorandum outlining various problems to Minister Savitha. The event saw the participation of prominent members of the association, including State President Mastan, Honorary President Dayanand Raju, State Associate President Rajolu Srinu, Sagar Babu, and various district presidents and members.

SC seeks Andhra response on plea against Sakshi TV's ‘blackout'

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought response from the Andhra Pradesh government on a plea filed by the owners of Sakshi TV alleging the television channel's blackout in the state was guided purely by political considerations. The channel was promoted by former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his wife is its current chairperson. (ANI PHOTO) The channel was promoted by former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his wife is its current chairperson. It approached the court through its holding company Indira Television Private Limited and a whole time director claiming that AP State Fibernet Limited , a state-owned distribution firm, was directed to take the channel off air after the Chandrababu Naidu government came to power in June last year. Following this, threats were issued to multi service operators (MSO) to stop beaming the channel, the plea claimed. A bench of justices PS Narasimha and AS Chandurkar issued a notice to the state and the MSOs and posted the matter after three weeks. 'Issue notice on the prayers for interim relief as well as on the writ petition,' the court said. Senior advocate V Giri appearing along with advocate Mahfooz Ahsan Nazki for the petitioner channel said, 'We cannot function in the given circumstances. The state cannot do this.' The petition pointed out that the coordinated suppression of a media outlet by state is 'politically motivated' as AP State Fibernet Limited abruptly disconnected the channel without giving any prior notice. This was followed by similar disconnections by major MSOs across the state. Senior advocate Niranjan Reddy also appearing for the channel said that selective targeting of the petitioner violates Article 14 for being arbitrary and throttles freedom of speech and expression, guaranteed to media outlets under Article 19(1)(a). The election results in the state were announced on June 4 last year. Within a fortnight on June 20, Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet disconnected the petitioner's channel. Against this order, the channel filed appeals before the Andhra Pradesh high court and the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). The high court on June 28, 2024, and TDSAT on July 5, 2024, directed that there should be unhindered and uninterrupted transmission of Sakshi TV. However, by then, the channel claimed it was taken off air by majority MSOs, leading to the channel's black out across 80% of the state.

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu orders precautionary measures as Krishna inflows rise

Vijayawada: With forecasts predicting continued heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu convened a high-level meeting with ministers and officials to assess the situation and initiate precautionary measures. He instructed departments to remain on high alert, monitor inflows into the Krishna river and its tributaries, and take steps to prevent flooding. The irrigation officials informed the chief minister that inflows into the Krishna river have reached 3 lakh cusecs and could rise to 5 lakh cusecs by Thursday. All incoming water is currently being discharged into the sea. Naidu directed officials to issue timely alerts to residents in low-lying areas and relocate them if necessary. He also asked MAUD officials to clear stagnant water from roads and urban pockets immediately. In addition to flood mitigation, Naidu emphasized the strategic use of excess water. He proposed diverting four TMC of water daily to fill the Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs. Officials noted that heavy rains in upper catchment areas like Mylavaram are contributing significant inflows into Budameru and Velagaleru, which are being discharged into the Krishna River. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dementia Has Been Linked To a Common Habit. Ongole police grill RGV for 10 hrs

Ongole: Film director Ram Gopal Varma appeared before the Ongole rural police on Tuesday in connection with a case involving derogatory social media posts against Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Janasena president K Pawan Kalyan, and their family members, which included the use of their morphed photos. In November 2024, Maddipadu mandal TDP general secretary Muttanapalli Ramalingam complained to the local police that Ram Gopal Varma made derogatory remarks against Chandrababu Naidu, his daughter-in-law Brahmani, and Pawan Kalyan, and used their morphed pictures for one of his recent films, Vyuham. He mentioned that the filmmaker's comments and the images posted on the social media platform X have damaged the personal and social reputations of the individuals. The investigation officer of the case, Ongole Rural CI N Srikanth Babu, issued notices to Ram Gopal Varma to appear before him for clarifications and explanations as part of the investigation. However, he evaded the police requests multiple times and filed a quash petition in the High Court against pending cases, along with an anticipatory bail petition, seeking relief from the case. The court granted him bail and instructed him to cooperate with the police. Following the issued notices, RGV presented himself before the investigation officer, Srikanth Babu, for the first time on February 7. Then the police allowed his lawyer to accompany him, and didn't seize themobile phone. However, on Tuesday, the police didn't allow Varma's lawyer into the interrogation room, and seized his mobile phone, citing it was required for the investigation. The interrogation continued for about 10 hours. Varma was asked questions about whether he had hatred against Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and their families, the reasons for his posts, and who motivated him.
