Ranbir Kapoor's hairstyle in Animal was inspired by Michael Jackson, says Aalim Hakim: ‘Uski entry moonwalk pe hai'
Ranbir Kapoor made a splash with the release of his film Animal in December 2023. The film sparked a social media debate over its misogynistic tone, even as it shattered box office records. Ranbir's look in the film was also a topic of discussion, where he sported long hair and a heavy beard. In an interview with celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim on Hindi Rush, it was revealed that Ranbir's long hair and curls look was inspired by Michael Jackson. (Also read: Sandeep Reddy Vanga had to be convinced to keep Ranbir Kapoor's hair long in Animal; he thought it looked like Sanju)
During the interaction, Aalim said in Hindi, 'There were multiple looks in Animal. In that film, Vanga sir had told that the lead has long hair, but he had it in his younger days and then cut it off for his father and then upon return from America, he also has long hair. So both these long hair looks must be different. When I was told that the character is a fan of Michael Jackson, then it hit me, how he has this entire leather jacket-white t-shirt look. I cracked the look and took inspiration from Michael Jackson's curls and man bun for Ranbir.'
He went on to add, 'I collected the iconic pictures of Michael Jackson and recreated that look. When people watched the film, they were not able to see that it is the same style. Now that I am saying it, one can see the similarities. Uski entry moonwalk pe hain (He makes his entry with a moonwalk).'
Animal tells the story of Ranvijay Singh, who goes on a rampage after his father, Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), is threatened. After going through a bunch of enemies before facing off against Abrar Haque (Bobby Deol), his long-lost cousin. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri. A sequel of the film, titled Animal Park, has already been announced.

Sitaare Zameen Par Advance Bookings: Aamir Khan Film Looks At A Rs 3.61 Crore Opening
Last Updated: Advance ticket sales for Sitaare Zameen Par are slow after Aamir Khan rejected a ₹120 cr OTT deal, hoping for a full theatrical release. Sitaare Zameen Par advance bookings: Aamir Khan is back on the big screen after a three-year break, and this time he's challenging Bollywood's OTT-dominated landscape. His film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, has been held back from a lucrative Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video. Aamir believes this theatrical-first model is essential to revitalise cinema. But the gamble hasn't sparked audience excitement yet. Early data from released Wednesday morning, shows a modest Rs 99.74 lakh in advance bookings for opening day—amounting to 38,770 seats sold across 6,128 shows. The Hindi version leads the charge with Rs 90.64 lakh from 29,689 tickets in 5,764 screenings. The Telugu version earned Rs 7.87 lakh across 276 shows, while the Tamil version garnered Rs 1.22 lakh from 88 shows. Including blocked seats, total receipts could reach Rs 3.61 crore. Regionally, Delhi tops the list with Rs 24.09 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at Rs 15.73 lakh and Telangana at Rs 12.47 lakh. With blocked seats taken into account, the film is expected to earn Rs 3.61 crore on the opening day. These numbers are a far cry from Aamir's past films—Thugs of Hindostan brought in Rs 27.5 crore in advance and Laal Singh Chaddha earned Rs 5.71 crore—despite both eventually flopping. Still, Sitaare Zameen Par operates with a smaller budget, making direct comparisons unfair. Set to release on Friday, June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir alongside Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, and others. The screenplay is by Divy Nidhi Sharma, with Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composing the music, Ram Sampath scoring the background, and visuals by cinematographer Srinivas Reddy. Charu Shree Roy handles the editing. Now, all eyes are on how audiences respond during the theatrical run—and whether glowing early reviews can help build momentum. Meanwhile, after days of speculation surrounding a possible delay, Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par, has officially received its clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), confirming its theatrical release on June 20, 2025. The film, billed as a spiritual successor to Khan's critically acclaimed 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, had recently made headlines over reports suggesting a dispute between the actor-producer and the CBFC regarding proposed cuts. While neither party issued a public statement about the nature of the disagreement, it appears the issue has now been resolved. After Aamir was not satisified with the changes asked by CBFC's Examining Committee, the Revising Committee (RC), headed by Vaman Kendre, viewed the film on Monday, June 16. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, they asked the makers to replace 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person'. In another scene, the RC replaced 'Michael Jackson' to 'Lovebirds'. A visual with the word 'Kamal' was asked to be removed and replaced without the 'lotus' word. The old disclaimer was deleted and a new disclaimer was added with the voiceover. Finally, the CBFC's RC asked the makers to add a quote of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the opening disclaimer. First Published: June 19, 2025, 07:39 IST

Bollywood hairstylists arm-twist producers to increase entourage costs by 3 times: Aalim Hakim asks, ‘How are you contributing…'
Aalim Hakim is a seasoned celebrity hairstylist best known for designing hairstyles of film stars like Rajinikanth and Salman Khan and cricketers like Virat Kohli. He also designs looks for actors in films, the most recent instances being Ranbir Kapoor in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 2023 blockbuster family crime drama Animal and Vicky Kaushal in Laxman Utekar's blockbuster period action drama Chaava this year. Hakim has claimed that unlike him, several hairdressers try to take advantage of their actors delivering hits by arm-twisting the production houses to spike their fees. 'A hairstylist sometimes feels an actor won't work well without them. They arm-twist the production house to increase their fees by three times. That's dishonesty, that's unethical,' said Hakim. In the interview to Hindi Rush, he added, 'This soils the reputation of the actor and of other technicians. I always advise them to be professional and maintain their fees.' Hakim argued that a hairstylist's fees should remain constant despite the market value of the actor they're working with. 'What does a technician have to do with a film becoming a superhit? They've just cut the actor's hair. The actor has given a good performance, the director has made a good film, which is why the film becomes a hit. Their actor scoring a Rs 500 crore film shouldn't increase the hairstylist's fees just because the actor has become comfortable with them,' said Hakim. He advised other hairstylists to be production-friendly as the hike in fees they often demand for themselves can instead be used to make a whole new film. 'If I charge Rs 1 lakh for a haircut, that's my fees. It's not like I charge someone Rs 1 lakh and someone else Rs 2 lakh or Rs 5 lakh,' argued Hakim, adding, 'A production house is prepared, they know how much they'd spend if they call me. It doesn't depend on whether my last film was a hit or not.' Hakim claimed that friendship, respect, and value are more important to him than money. 'If you arm-twist someone, they'd work with you once, but not again. They wouldn't respect you. If a lot of them don't work with you because you're greedy and a liar, then you'd be out of the industry,' said Hakim. He clarified that his fees of Rs 1 lakh per haircut remains the same for celebrities and commoners. 'No one is a celebrity or a commoner to me. They're all my clients irrespective of their stature,' said Hakim. He admitted he's not charged some friends for his work, but not when he's working professionally for friends who are producers and are earning money from their projects. 'Whether I charge Rs 5 or Rs 5 lakh for a haircut, I'd cut the hair in the same way. If you ask Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan or Naseeruddin Shah to do acting worth Rs 5, they'd do the same acting. What's a Rs 5 acting? Art doesn't function like that. I just spend some water in my spray, which doesn't have a cost. It's the art that's priceless,' argued Hakim. Also Read — 'Hrithik Roshan and Kapil Sharma don't wear wigs or patches; their hair is absolutely real': Celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim 'If I increase my fees from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, I know they'd pay me. But I believe in repeat value. I want to work everyday and for everyone,' said Hakim, adding, 'Technically, Rs 1 lakh is quite affordable for everyone otherwise why would they be spending it on me so far?'
