Sony and Fnatic bring hands-on fan activation to EWC
Fnatic is a global esports performance brand known for fielding professional teams in titles such as Valorant, League of Legends and Counter-Strike. The organisation also develops training tools and creates content aimed at competitive gamers. At the Riyadh activation, fans were able to meet and interact with Fnatic's professional Valorant players, including Jake 'Boaster' Howlett and Austin 'Crashies' Roberts.
The booth gave visitors the opportunity to try Sony's INZONE H5 and H9 wireless headsets, as well as the new INZONE M10S gaming monitor. These products were developed in close collaboration with Fnatic's professional. Fnatic's teams currently use the INZONE peripherals in training and competition, making the demo sessions a reflection of Fnatic's setups.
It also featured giveaways, casual play sessions and team meet-and-greets aimed at giving fans time with the players in an informal setting.

This experience taps into a deeply passionate and fast‑growing audience, creating this memorable experience allows fans to engage with the Fnatic Team in a real gaming environment', said Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director, Sony Middle East and Africa.
The activation reflects the growing investment in esports in Saudi Arabia, where the local gaming market surpassed SAR 7.88bn in 2024. Esports alone contributed over SAR 83m in revenue.

A second public appearance was held at Sony World in Granada Mall, Riyadh on 10 July, where Fnatic players took part in a meet-and-greet, joined by further demos and product testing of the InZone range.
Fnatic also participated in the Esports World Cup's official Valorant tournament, where 16 international teams competed for a SAR 4.69m prize pool in front of live audiences at Boulevard Riyadh City.

With a former Premier League referee and an Indian Army colonel as part of the support crew, you might think laughs would be in short supply for Diksha Dagar's team at the PIF London Championship. No time for fun. Rather some regimented, rules-based focus, as the players target both team at personal success at the Ladies European Tour event at Centurion Club. The tournament includes a team competition, based on the collective scores of each four-ball, as well as the standard singles event. As such, each match involves more camaraderie between the players than most other weeks on tour. Chloe Williams, one of the quartet, has Mike Dean, one of Premier League football's best known ex-refs, on her bag. Dagar, meanwhile, has her own father, Col Narinder Dagar, as her caddie. Dean was renowned for being about as flamboyant as it was possible for a ref to be, but the main character energy is all Narinder's. He was vocal in his support of all the players. Especially so his daughter. At the 11th tee box on Friday's opening day, instead of insisting on some focus, he flicked water at her. After almost every shot his daughter played, he raised his hand for a high-five. Sometimes it was reciprocated, sometimes he got a fist bump, and sometimes she just left him hanging. Her game was good enough to bring a smile to her face, anyway. The 24-year-old left-hander shot a smart 3-under par on Friday's opening day, leaving her within three shots of the leaders. 'Because of him, he has made the game very exciting for me,' Diksha said. 'In golf, sometimes there's no excitement, and no energy. 'If that is the case, then it becomes kind of a bit boring. He's the one who makes the game very exciting, and I love it. It keeps me motivated.' Narinder played golf himself, as a club player. He encouraged his daughter to play all sports – she tried tennis and swimming, as well – and he was thrilled when she took to golf. 'Golf is such an amazing sport,' he said. 'It has longevity and it's such an amazing game. It tests you mentally, and challenges your mind as well, besides being physical. 'It's a wonderful game. It's such an amazing game. It gets into your head, so it's addictive.' Diksha has faced more challenges than most. She, and her brother, were born deaf. She has worn hearing aids since she was five years old, and currently has implants which are not visible. She has excelled in spite of her disability. She has won twice on the Ladies European Tour before. Although she has not challenged for trophies yet this season, she has had a variety of creditable finishes lately, including at the Women's Open last weekend in Wales. She is confident she is tracking in the right direction. 'The main thing is I'm working on my fitness and I'm staying focused on my game,' she said. 'I always try to find a way to improve myself because I believe there's always scope for improvement. I just want to try to go up and up, and keep working hard.' Her father is proud to be along for the journey. 'We are enjoying it and we are working hard,' Narinder said. 'There's a lot of hard work involved. She's putting in a lot of hard work, but there is a lot of enjoyment, satisfaction, and joy. 'It's fantastic to be around a good golfer, a good athlete. That provides satisfaction. What is better than seeing your own daughter playing so well? 'We are so proud of her, what she's doing. It's amazing if we are getting this opportunity.' Diksha said she enjoys playing as part of a team, in a tournament organised by Golf Saudi. 'This is kind of my nature,' she said. 'There is lots of possibility in the team and there's always a team spirit and you are motivating others, pushing each other. You feel positive.' And having a cheerleader like her dad in such proximity also helps. Narinder said he is always cautious about striking the right tone with his exuberance. 'Certain things are required on the golf course, and we are aware when we need to be quiet,' he said. 'But thereafter you have to be relaxed. It depends on the match situation as well. There has to be a fun element. Even if there is some stress, then you have to endure it and take it. And of course that is also a good thing.'

TCS layoffs herald AI shakeup of $283 billion outsourcing sector
Indian outsourcing giant Tata Consultancy Services' decision to cut over 12,000 jobs signals the start of a broader AI-fueled trend that could end up eliminating around half a million jobs over the next two to three years from the $283 billion sector, experts said. While TCS pegged the move to shed 2 per cent of its workforce to skill mismatches rather than AI-related productivity gains, experts viewed the largest-ever layoffs by India's top private employer as the beginning of things to come in the labour-intensive sector. Roughly 12,200 TCS middle and senior management jobs will be lost. The industry, which has played a crucial role in creating a middle class in India, is increasingly seeing AI being used for everything from basic coding to manual testing and customer support. The sector employed 5.67 million people as of March 2025 and accounted for over 7 per cent of India's GDP. It has a huge multiplier effect due to the direct and indirect jobs it creates and the cars-to-homes consumption it drives in the world's fifth-largest economy. It has historically absorbed a majority of India's engineers but that will change as rising AI use ekes out more efficiencies and demands newer skills that many current employees lack, according to half a dozen industry veterans, analysts, and staffing firms. 'We are in the midst of a massive transition that will transform white-collar work as we know it,' said Silicon Valley-based Constellation Research founder and chairman Ray Wang, echoing other experts who warned that more layoffs are likely on the cards. The most vulnerable employees include pure people managers with minimal tech knowledge, those in charge of testing or identifying bugs and ensuring user-friendliness before delivering software to clients, and infrastructure management staff who provide basic tech support and ensure networks and servers are working well, experts said. 'About 400,000 to 500,000 professionals are at risk of being laid off over the next two to three years as their skills don't match client demands,' tech market intelligence firm UnearthInsight's founder Gaurav Vasu said, adding that about 70% of those layoffs would impact workers with 4-12 years' experience. 'This (fear stemming from TCS layoffs) may hurt consumer demand for tourism, luxury shopping and even delay long-term investments such as real estate,' Vasu said. TCS and its peers Infosys, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, LTIMindtree, and Cognizant collectively employ over 430,000 workers with 13 to 25 years of experience, according to staffing firm Xpheno. 'At the moment, they may appear like the big fat middle layer,' Xpheno's co-founder Kamal Karanth said. None of the IT firms responded to Reuters queries seeking comment. 'With cost optimization being the key driver for new deal wins, clients are asking for productivity benefits - a trend which is also growing due to the rise in AI adoption. This requires IT firms to do more work with the same number of employees or the same work with fewer employees,' Jefferies analyst Akshat Agarwal said in a research note. TCS, which had more than 613,000 workers before the layoffs, said in its late July announcement it was gearing up to be 'future-ready' by investing in new technologies, entering new markets, deploying AI at scale for its clients and itself, and realigning its workforce model. It did not answer Reuters queries on how many layoffs were tied to AI adoption and why it could not redeploy the affected employees. 'This is very devastating news,' said a 45-year-old, Kolkata-based TCS employee affected by the latest layoffs. 'It is very difficult for people my age to get new jobs.' Some others who are still at TCS fretted over its mediocre performance bonuses for senior employees in recent quarters, a new 'bench policy' that limits the time somebody could be without a project regardless of personal circumstances or past performance, on-boarding delays, and the emotional turmoil caused by the layoffs. 'All these developments have tanked the morale of mid-career folks like me,' a Pune-based TCS employee said. The Indian outsourcing sector has been a key employment engine since the 1990s, offering upward mobility to millions of engineers. But revenue growth has weakened recently as its clients, stung by inflation and US tariff uncertainty, defer discretionary spending and demand better cost management. 'The tech industry is at an inflection point, as AI and automation move to the very core of how businesses operate,' industry body Nasscom said. During past tech revolutions, disruption was felt at the organisational level. 'With AI, for the first time, the onus is on the individual to reinvent or re-skill themselves,' former Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani said. Reuters

Manchester United seal €85m deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United have completed their third major move of the summer transfer window by signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesco in a deal that could rise up to €85 million. United are understood to be paying Leipzig an initial €76.5m plus a potential €8.5m in add-ons for the 22-year-old Slovenian who scored 39 goals in 87 games for the German club. Sesco – who was also wanted by Newcastle United but decided on a move to Old Trafford – joins Bryan Mbeumo (€75m from Brentford) and Matheus Cunha (€74.2m from Wolves) as the club aim to bolster an attack that has struggled for goals in recent seasons. United endured their worst their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years when they finished 15th last season and also lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. Only four other teams scored fewer than United's 44 goals in 38 Premier League games. Despite last season's struggles, that saw Erik ten Hag sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim, Sesko believes he is joining the 'perfect place' to win trophies and improve as a player. 'The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future,' Sesko said in a statement on the club's website. 'When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon. 'From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. 'I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my teammates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.' Sesko is set to be unveiled to his new supporters on Saturday when United entertain Fiorentina at Old Trafford. His Premier League bow should come next Sunday when Amorim's side are at home to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the new season. Standing 1.95 metres tall, Sesko's towering physique, electric pace and eye for goal have earned comparisons with Manchester City's Erling Haaland. Like Haaland, he also made his name at RB Salzburg before moving to Germany in 2023. United are banking on Sesko's potential to fire them back into contention at the top of the Premier League. Between them, Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo combined for 58 goals last season. United director of football Jason Wilcox said: 'Benjamin possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football. The rebuild under Amorim continues to gather pace. While Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko have been brought in, there are a number of players heading out. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho were all told not to report back for preseason training with the rest of the squad as they looked to finalise moves away. Rashford has since joined Barcelona on a 12-month loan with the Catalan giants having the option of signing the England international on a permanent deal. Sancho has been linked to various clubs including Atletico Madrid and Juventus, Antony is keen to extend his successful loan spell at Real Betis for another season, while Scottish champions Celtic are reported to be interested in Malacia. Chelsea, meanwhile, are in talks with United to sign Argentine winger Garnacho who is valued at £50m by the club.
