Mahavtar Narsimha Director To NDTV: "Muslim Viewers Told Me The Film Strengthened Their Faith"
Mahavatar Narsimha, the mytho-spiritual drama backed by Hombale Films, is turning out to be one of the surprise blockbusters of 2025.
Thirteen days since its release, the Hindi version alone has raked in a remarkable Rs 83.55 crore - no small feat considering the crowded box office, with big titles like Saiyaara, Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 vying for attention.
What makes Mahavatar Narsimha stand apart? According to its director, Ashwin Kumar, it's not just the story, but the soul of the film that's connecting with people.
"We're overflowing with emotion for our own children. Now imagine the magnitude of love the divine has for us," Kumar told NDTV. "This is not a religious film. It's an interreligious faith film. Because love, it is a universal emotion. So is faith. Hence the film is growing leaps and bounds."
The director is clear that Mahavatar Narsimha is not trying to preach or convert. "I've had people from different communities, including many Muslim viewers, come up to me and say that the film strengthened their own faith. I'm not saying go convert your religion. What I'm saying is, you understand what faith is. Whether you pray to a God, believe in energy, or place your trust in the universe this film simply asks you to surrender to that faith."
Interestingly, the film's second week has outperformed the first. A 57% jump in collections, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who called the trend "nothing short of sensational." The ₹100 crore milestone now seems well within reach.

Coolie first day advance booking: Rajinikanth's film crosses Rs 20 cr in India four days before release, Rs 50 cr worldwide as it aims for Rs 100 cr opening
Coolie first day advance booking: This week, as Rajinikanth completes 50 years in the film industry, his fans are in for a celebration. The Tamil superstar's new film, Lokesh Kanagaraj's crime thriller Coolie, is all set to release in cinemas this Thursday on August 14. Going by the advance booking figures four days before the film hits theatres, it looks like it'll be one of the biggest openings for an Indian film worldwide. By Monday morning, Coolie has already earned Rs 14 crore in advance sales in India. Majority of this figure belongs to the native Tamil version at Rs 13.7 crore, followed by the dubbed Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada versions at Rs 22 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, and Rs 85,000 respectively. Combined with the block booking, the current advance booking of the film in India stands at Rs 20.26 crore. As of August 10, the film has managed ticket ore0sales of 706K on ticketing platform BookMyShow, as per Koimoi. With this, it has surpassed Rajinikanth's last release Vettaiyan. Coincidentally, Rajinikanth holds 3 of the five spots on ticket pre-sales for Tamil films (Leo with 2.28 million, Jailer with 1.19 million, The Greatest Of All Time with 1.19 million, Coolie and Vettaiyan with 706K each.) This development comes just a day and a half after the advance booking of Coolie was declared open in India. The tickets of the film have been available in international markets for a couple of weeks now. As per Sacnilk, the Rajinikanth-starrer has already crossed the Rs 50 crore mark internationally in terms of advance sales. As the release date draws closer, this figure is only expected to rise even at a higher rate. Given that the film will enjoy an extended Independence Day weekend run, many more tickets are expected to be sold within the next three days. The movie may earn as much as more than even Rs 100 crore globally on its opening day, given its current trajectory. That would ensure not only Tamil cinema's biggest worldwide opening till date, but also one of the biggest for Indian cinema. Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for Kaithi (2019), Master (2021), and Vikram (2022), has directed the film. It is backed by production house Sun Pictures. Coolie marks the next instalment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe or the Lokiverse. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will make a cameo in the film, which will possibly hint at a later standalone spin-off he'd do with Kanagaraj, that will go on floors by the end of next year. Aamir and Rajinikanth last worked together in the 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank. In Coolie, Aamir Khan will be seen as Dahaa. A poster showing Aamir's rugged new look was recently shared by the makers. Rajinikanth's 171st film also stars Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the film. This marks the superstar's first A-rated film in many years, hinting that the film will be packed with intense and unfiltered action. The film revolves around Rajinikanth's character Deva, 'a mysterious man who takes a stand against a corrupt syndicate exploiting and abusing the workers of a port town.'

Indian Man Explains Why He Loves Living In Canada: ‘Sab Rules Follow Karte Hai Yaha'
Last Updated: An Indian content creator living in the North American country shared the number of things he loves about Canada and why he doesn't wish to return anytime soon. An Indian man living in Canada shared a viral post, explaining why he cherishes his life in the North American country and doesn't want to return to India. Sahil Narang, a content creator, posted a video highlighting the benefits of living in Canada with a Hindi voice-over. Narang spoke about the number of facilities offered to the residents by the Canadian government, including minimum wage and job security. 'These are the main reasons I absolutely love living in Canada and why I'm still not ready to leave this country," said Narang as he introduced himself in the video captioned 'Why I love living in this Country". 'Hi, my name is Sahil, and I have been living in Canada for more than three years. In Canada, every province has its minimum wage. No matter what job you do, you are guaranteed to earn at least that amount. And trust me, if you're talented and have solid experience in a good field, you can end up earning a great deal here." The content creator also made it a point to share how even the privileged lot of Canadian society follows the rules and regulations put in place by the authorities. 'Here, everyone follows the rules, regardless of whether you're rich or poor. The best part is that there is no enforcement to make people follow them; they choose to follow the rules on their own," Narang said. Further on life in Canada, the content creator spoke about the beauty of the country and how the festivities organised by the government give residents plenty to look forward to regularly. 'Canada is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The government does a lot for its residents, organising so many festivals that they truly make you feel at home," he said. 'Every day, every week, every month, there is always something happening, whether it is snowing heavily, scorching hot, or anything in between. This country never stops. If you're doing well and earning well, you will experience the best days of your life here." What the Internet Said About Indian's Love Affair With Canada The clip shared over Instagram garnered the attention of users from India, who promptly commented beneath it. While some expressed their envy of the man, others were not so amused at the idea of him choosing another country above India and its cultural heritage. 'Job dilwado phir jara mujhe bhi (please get me a job there as well)," wrote one user. Another commented: 'At least something positive on my feed for Canada. Nice." A nationalist said, 'Bhai apne India ko explore karo (brother, please explore India), Indian culture is the best." Coolie Vs War 2 Advance Box Office Day 1: Rajinikanth's Film Earns Rs 50 Crore, Storms Ahead Of Hrithik-Jr NTR?
Last Updated: Coolie Vs War 2 Movie Day 1 Box Office Collections: Rajinikanth's film is leading in advance bookings. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's project lags behind in advance sales. Coolie vs War 2 Movie Collections Day 1: South cinema and Bollywood are set for another big clash, scheduled for the Independence Day weekend on August 14. Rajinikanth's Coolie will meet Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 in theatres, and it seems like the audience already has a preference. Kickstarting its pre-sales overseas before hitting Indian screens, Rajinikanth's Coolie is witnessing a massive rush in international ticket bookings as a part of its early sales. The stakes are bigger than that of War 2 in India too. In the country, where bookings opened in phases on Friday, the film has already pulled in Rs 14 crore in advance sales, with Rs 10 crore locked for opening day alone. The Tamil version dominates with nearly Rs 10 crore, while the Telugu and Kannada versions have made a solid start. The Hindi version lags for now but is expected to pick up momentum as release day approaches. Internationally, Coolie is smashing records. In North America, premiere advance bookings have touched USD 1.7 million (about Rs 14 crore), of which USD 1.45 million comes from the USA alone, with over 56,000 tickets sold. This feat surpasses the premiere earnings of Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo, which had grossed USD 1.3 million in the USA on its debut day. The film's total overseas advance now stands at Rs 41 crore, already more than the lifetime foreign earnings of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life. With this momentum, Coolie is poised to break the all-time Tamil cinema advance booking benchmark of Rs 46 crore set by Thalapathy Vijay's Leo. On the domestic front, it has already outpaced Jailer's Rs 18 crore India pre-sales record and, as per trade buzz, could potentially double its current advance figures before its August 14 release. The film also stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan, with an extended cameo by Aamir Khan. War 2 Movie Collections: Day 1 Advance Booking Reports As for Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2, the YRF-backed film is lagging far behind Rajinikanth's Coolie in terms of numbers. According to Sacnilk, its advance booking sales have so far brought in Rs 2.09 crore. The film has a lot of ground to cover – not just to catch up with Coolie, but also because it has been made on a staggering budget of Rs 400 crore. The film also stars Kiara Advani. view comments First Published: August 11, 2025, 11:02 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
