Tennis-Defending Cincinnati champion Sabalenka stunned by Rybakina
(Reuters) -Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka was dismantled 6-1 6-4 on Friday by Elena Rybakina who powered into her first Cincinnati Open semi-final with a display of clinical serving.
The Kazakh ninth seed delivered a brilliant performance to secure her seventh career win over a top-ranked player and set up a blockbuster clash with Poland's Iga Swiatek in a showdown of Wimbledon champions.
Rybakina fired 11 aces throughout the match, earning an impressive 81% of points on her first serve, while saving all five break points she faced as she secured her fifth win over Sabalenka in 12 meetings.
"I'm happy with the serve. It was the key," former world number three Rybakina said.
"We're both big hitters. Today I served really well. If Aryna serves well, it's completely different. Hopefully I continue like this."
Earlier, third seed Swiatek advanced to her first WTA 1000 semi-final in 15 months, beating Russia's Anna Kalinskaya 6-3 6-4.
Kalinskaya, who had defeated Swiatek in their only previous meeting, put up a spirited fight by saving four match points, before the six-times Grand Slam winner converted her fifth opportunity on serve to seal the victory.
"I just played my game," Swiatek said. "For sure, it wasn't easy. Just happy I was solid and had the intensity to apply pressure."

Sinner won a remarkable 91% of his first-serve points, did not face a single break point during the 86-minute match and converted two of five break points in his first career meeting with world number 136 Atmane. "Very, very tough challenge," Sinner said on court after being serenaded with "Happy Birthday" by the crowd. "Every time when you play against someone completely new it's very difficult. "I knew that I had to be very, very careful and my mindset today was in a good spot. I feel like I handled situations on the court very well." The Italian world number one had his hands full throughout a tightly contested first set which featured an imperious serving display from both men and not a single break point opportunity for either player. Sinner, who lost just three points on serve in the opening set, held to love for a third consecutive game to force the tiebreak where Atmane gifted his opponent the opening point with a double fault and from there the Italian never looked back. The reigning U.S. Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon champion opened the second set with a nine-minute hold of serve, then held to love before finally breaking Atmane for a 3-1 lead that gave him the cushion he needed. Sinner followed that with another hold to love to go 4-1 up and all but end any hope for Atmane, who beat top-10 players Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune en route to his maiden ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. With Atmane serving at 2-5 and looking to stay in the match, Sinner quickly jumped ahead 0-40 before sealing the win on his third match point when the Frenchman sent a forehand into the net. Sailing–Australia lead Germany SailGP, NZ stay ahead overall
(Reuters) -Australia's Bonds Flying Roos ended the opening day of the inaugural Germany Sail Grand Prix with an eight-point lead over New Zealand thanks to an impressive late charge on Saturday. Australia shrugged off a start-line penalty in the second race of the day, as Tom Slingsby's crew clawed back to finish third before out-duelling Spain to win race three and coming second to New Zealand in the day's fourth and last race. Australia's tally of 32 points put them ahead of Peter Burling's New Zealand, who won race four. The Kiwis ended the day on 24 points, protecting their overall lead in the championship standings. Quentin Delapierre's France finished third, level with New Zealand on 24 points, after being cleared to compete following overnight repairs to a damaged starboard rudder. Rockwool Racing Denmark broke SailGP's racing and overall F50 speed record during the third race, as they nailed the start and accelerated to a massive 103.93 km/h. Germany (Deutsche Bank) won the opening race to the delight of the Sassnitz crowd, a bright start for the team who began the weekend 11th overall on zero points. Britain's Emirates GBR won race two and finished sixth on 19 points. Their hopes of a strong opening day were dashed after a collision with United States in the fourth race which left their F50 with a hole and tore away the U.S. boat's port bow. No one was injured in the incident and the American team will be docked 12 event points.
