Beta Release: Aristotle AI Promises Smarter Conversations

Economic Times2 days ago
Vlad Tenev, the co-founder and CEO of Robinhood, decided to co-found an AI company. His new venture, Harmonic, is a different beast altogether: a startup focused on artificial intelligence, now entering public view with the beta launch of its chatbot app, Aristotle.Available on both iOS and Android, Aristotle is, at the surface level, another entrant in the increasingly saturated AI assistant space. Think ChatGPT, but with more branding flair. Harmonic pitches Aristotle as a reasoning-first model, but not just a chatbot that spits out facts, but one that aims to engage in deeper, more thoughtful conversations. The name alone sets expectations high, evoking philosophical inquiry rather than just transactional queries.
Somewhat, the app interface is clean, and the conversation flow feels more nuanced than what you'd get from a baseline language model. Aristotle seems to push users to consider 'why' and 'how' more than just 'what.' It occasionally probes with follow-up questions, which can be refreshing - or redundant, depending on what you're looking for. That said, what Harmonic is doing right is focusing. The company isn't chasing enterprise contracts or trying to be everything to everyone. This is a mobile-first, consumer-facing experience, optimized for individual users rather than institutions. In a market where many AI startups are pivoting toward enterprise sales just to survive, this alone sets Harmonic apart - for now.
Aristotle achieved a gold medal performance on the 2025 International Math Olympiad (IMO) through a formal test (meaning the problems were translated into a machine‑readable format). Google and OpenAI also developed AI models that achieved gold medal performance on this year's IMO, but through informal tests taken in natural language.
The model itself hasn't been open-sourced or benchmarked publicly, so it's hard to gauge technical merit beyond anecdotal usage. Tenev claims Aristotle is 'built to reason.'Ultimately, Aristotle is interesting. The app feels polished, the ideas behind it are ambitious, and Harmonic's commitment to building a truly conversational AI is commendable. But unless the product can show measurable improvements in logic, comprehension, or trustworthiness over established models, it risks becoming just another pretty interface on top of the same backend limitations. For now, it's a beta worth keeping an eye on, but not because of what it is, but because of what it might evolve into.

Fortnite, Epic Games Store may return to Android through Google Play Store

Epic Games is on its way to make a comeback to the Google Play Store after a US appeals court upheld a 2023 verdict that found Google maintained an 'illegal monopoly' over Android through its Play Store and billing practices. Marking the occasion, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Epic Games Store will soon be available on Android via the Play Store. This move also suggests that Fortnite may return to the platform, similar to its attempts for reappearance following the Epic vs Apple case. The timeline remains unclear, but once launched, it will make things easier for Android users to access Fortnite and other titles without sideloading process or pre-installation deals with phone makers required. While speaking to The Verge, Google has reportedly said that it will appeal the decision again, likely bringing the case to the US Supreme Court. Google was quoted as saying: 'This decision will significantly harm user safety, limit choice, and undermine the innovation that has always been central to the Android ecosystem. Our top priority remains protecting our users, developers and partners, and maintaining a secure platform as we continue our appeal.' Epic Games versus Google explained The Epic Games v. Google case began in August 2020 when Epic deliberately bypassed Google Play's billing system by offering direct in-app payments in Fortnite. This violation led to Fortnite's removal from the Play Store and sparked a lawsuit, with Epic accusing Google of maintaining an illegal monopoly over Android app distribution and payments. Although Android technically allows sideloading, Epic claimed Google suppressed true competition through restrictive contracts with device makers and exclusive deals with developers. While Google settled similar antitrust lawsuits with Match Group and US states—resulting in minor policy changes—Epic refused a financial settlement, seeking systemic reforms instead. In December 2023, a federal jury unanimously ruled in Epic's favour, finding Google guilty of maintaining a monopoly. Google was ordered to allow third-party app stores within the Play Store, end preferential revenue deals, and let developers direct users to alternative payment systems. Google appealed the ruling, but on July 31, 2025, an appeals court upheld the verdict, marking a legal victory for Epic. This paves the way for the Epic Games Store—and likely Fortnite—to return to the Play Store without restrictions. What is Fortnite Fortnite is an online multiplayer game developed by Epic Games, released in 2017. It is most commonly associated with its battle royale mode, where up to 100 players compete on a single map until one player or team remains. The game also includes other modes, though the battle royale appears to be the most widely played. Its gameplay combines shooting mechanics with a unique building system that allows players to construct structures in real time. In addition to core gameplay, Fortnite features frequent updates and limited-time events, including crossovers with entertainment franchises. These collaborations have helped the game maintain visibility, especially among younger users. While originally available through mainstream app stores, Fortnite was removed from both Apple's App Store and Google Play in 2020 following disputes over in-app payment systems. Since then, Android users have accessed it via sideloading, while iOS users have had no official method to install or update the game outside specific regions.

Leaked Pixel 10 Prices Hint at Familiar Costs, Minor Upgrades

Google's upcoming Pixel 10 lineup might not surprise buyers when it comes to pricing. If a fresh leak is to be believed, the new Pixel 10 family could stick closely to last year's price tags—good news for fans hoping to upgrade without shelling out more. A recent report by Android Headlines claims the base Pixel 10 with 128GB storage will once again start at $799, matching the Pixel 9's launch price. The 256GB version also appears set to remain steady at $899. For those eyeing a premium experience, the Pixel 10 Pro could still kick off at $999, with higher-capacity versions costing $1,099 for 256GB, $1,219 for 512GB, and $1,449 for the 1TB option. The only notable adjustment could come with the Pixel 10 Pro XL. According to the leak, Google might ditch the 128GB version altogether. That would bump the starting point to the 256GB variant at $1,199—unchanged from the same configuration in the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The larger Pro XL may also be offered in 512GB for $1,319 and 1TB for $1,549. Meanwhile, foldable phone fans should prepare for flagship prices. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is tipped to start at $1,799 for 256GB, $1,919 for 512GB, and a hefty $2,149 for the 1TB model. Google is expected to officially unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20th. Rumours hint at more than just steady prices—possible upgrades include the addition of magnetic Qi2 wireless charging, improved dust-proofing for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and a third rear camera for the standard Pixel 10.

Google to set USD 6 billion data centre in Vizag; TCS and Cognizant operations to begin soon: IT minister Lokesh

VIJAYAWADA: HRD, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh announced that a major data centre in India will be established in Visakhapatnam. It is learnt that Google is preparing to develop a 1GW data centre and supporting power infrastructure, with an estimated investment of $6 billion in the Port City. He also revealed that operations of TCS will begin in Visakhapatnam in September, followed by Cognizant in October. Lokesh described his recent visit to Singapore as fruitful, stating that the State attracted investments to the tune of Rs 45,000 crore through the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC). He called it good news for the youth of the State and bad news for YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Speaking to the media at his Undavalli residence on Thursday, Lokesh emphasised that the visit, led by the Chief Minister, had enhanced Andhra Pradesh's brand image. Accusing Jagan of sabotaging the State's prospects, Lokesh alleged that an individual named Murali Krishna had sent emails to Singapore government officials and the High Commissioner, claiming that Andhra Pradesh had an unstable government and warning them against signing investment deals. 'This individual is linked to PLR Constructions, which is owned by family members of former Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy,' Lokesh said, adding that the act was part of a broader scheme by the YSRCP to block investments and stall development. He criticised the YSRCP for consistently creating legal and political hurdles to drive away investors, warning that such actions were damaging Andhra Pradesh's progress and global reputation.
