Team India's wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will not participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru from August 28 to September 11. Kishan, who plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand, was recently appointed captain of the East Zone team for the tournament. However, due to his unavailability, Odisha's Aashirwad Swain has been named as his replacement.
Aashirwad Swain, a 20-year-old left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, has played 11 first-class matches for Odisha, scoring 615 runs with a top score of 77 and three half-centuries. Behind the stumps, he has accomplished 35 catches, which includes 32 catches and three stumpings. The Odisha Cricket Association confirmed Swain's inclusion in the East Zone team on Thursday, stating he would join the team along with Sandeep Patnaik.

Ishan Kishan, who made his international debut against England in Ahmedabad on March 14, 2021, has played two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20 matches for India. His last competitive appearance was for Nottinghamshire against Somerset at Taunton from June 29 to July 2, where he scored 77 runs batting at number six.
In Kishan's absence, Bengal batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran will now lead the East Zone team. The 29-year-old right-handed batsman, who has scored 7,841 runs in 103 first-class matches, was initially named the vice-captain.
East Zone is set to face North Zone in the first quarterfinal match of the Duleep Trophy 2025 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, Bengaluru from August 28 to 31. The North Zone team, captained by Shubman Gill, includes players such as Yash Dhull, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Anshul Kamboj, and Yudhveer Singh Charak.
East Zone Squad Announced
The East Zone squad comprises Abhimanyu Easwaran (captain), Ashirwad Swain (wicketkeeper), Sandeep Patnaik, Virat Singh, Danish Das, Sridam Paul, Sharandeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Riyan Parag, Utkarsh Singh, Manishi, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep and Mohammad Shami, with Mukhtar Hussain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Swastik Samal, Sudip Kumar Gharami, and Rahul Singh as standbys.

'Rohit Will Retire After...': Ex-IND Batter Makes Big Claim About ODI Captain's Future

Last Updated: India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is on June 29, 2024, and quit Test cricket on May 7, 2025. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian men's ODI cricket team. Under his leadership, India finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cup 2023 and won the ICC Champions Trophy title earlier this year. In the summit clash played in Dubai on March 9, 2025, against New Zealand, Rohit played a 76-run knock in the 252-run chase. For his super show with the bat in the match Men in Blue won by four wickets, Rohit also won the Player of the Match award. In all likelihood Rohit will captain India now in the three-match ODI series against Australia as well in October 2025. But since Rohit's retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, there have been constant talks about his exit from ODIs as well. Many former greats and experts of the game feel that Rohit might not feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup. But according to former India batter Mohammad Kaif, the next 50-over mega event, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in a couple of years' time, will be Rohit's last tournament for India. He feels that after Rohit's exit, the Indian team management will appoint Shubman Gill as the new captain. Gill is the current captain of India's Test team and vice-captain of white-ball teams (both ODIs and T20Is). 'In the last three years, Gill has scored 2,000 runs. He is the future captain. He is the Test captain, and in T20Is, he is the vice-captain. Rohit is the ODI captain. He is almost 38 and I believe will retire after the 2027 ODI World Cup. When he steps away, Gill will become the captain," Kaif said on his YouTube channel. Rohit, who has scored more than 11,000 runs in ODI cricket, is the world's No. 2 batter in the 50-over format of the game. In the 11 ODI matches played since the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit has registered scores of 58, 64, 35, 2, 119, 1, 41, 20, 15, 28 and 76 runs. He was India's top run-getter in all three ODI matches played against Sri Lanka in Colombo last year. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ex-Palestinian Basketball Player Dies In Israeli Strike Days After Death Of ‘Palestinian Pelé'

Last Updated: Mohammed Shaalan was killed in an Israeli strike near an aid distribution centre while attempting to secure food and medicines for his ill daughter Maryam. Former Palestinian national basketball player Mohammed Shaalan was killed in an Israeli strike near an aid distribution centre in Gaza's Khan Younis on Tuesday, according to reports. Shaalan was killed while attempting to secure food and medicine for his sick daughter, Maryam, and the rest of his family, according to Middle East Eye. Maryam reportedly suffered from kidney failure and severe blood poisoning, and Shaalan had repeatedly appealed for help in proper medical treatment. Also known as al-Zilzal – which means 'The Earthquake' – Shaalan was a popular figure in Palestinian sports, having played for several local teams including Khadamat Al-Bureij, Khadamat Al-Maghazi, and Khadamat Khan Younis, as well as representing the national team. Israeli forces have killed at least 670 Palestinian athletes since the genocide in Gaza began nearly two years ago, according to Palestinian sports officials. The UN said at least 1,857 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes while seeking food since late May. Israel's offensive has killed at least 62,122 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has come under growing pressure at home and abroad to end the war. This came days after ' Palestinian Pele ' Suleiman al-Obeid was killed when Israeli forces targeted people waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) said in a statement. Obeid, who was born in Gaza City and played 24 international matches for the Palestine team, was married and had five children. In October 2023, Salah urged world leaders to unite and permit humanitarian aid into Gaza to prevent further loss of innocent lives. The incident received widespread attention when Liverpool star player Mohamed Salah criticised UEFA for posting a tribute to Obeid without mentioning that he died after being struck by Israeli gunfire in the Gaza Strip. 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" he said in response to UEFA's tribute. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rohit became the world's No. 2 ODI batter last week, while Kohli grabbed the 4 th spot with 736 rating points. But on Wednesday, their names disappeared from the ICC website. Later in the day, the two names were back in the listings, and as learned, it was a fault at the technological end.
