New generation disconnected from culture, says MLC at Krishna Jayanti celebrations in Mysuru
C.N. Manjegowda, MLC, who inaugurated the programme, stressed the importance of introducing children to the essence of history, culture, and Hindu religious texts. He rued that the present generation was disconnected from history, religious values, and culture as compared to the previous generation, and said that it was the responsibility of all to ensure that the richness of our traditions be passed on to the new generation.
Mr. Manjegowda said festivals such as the Krishna Janmashtami not only keep the traditions alive, but also impart noble thoughts, culture, and life lessons to the next generation.
Selva Pillai Iyengar, Head of the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology at the Karnataka State Open University, in his address, said that Lord Krishna not only embodied every human emotion, but also transcended them, making him a true 'Jagadguru'.
Referring to the Bhagavad Gita, he emphasised that Lord Krishna's teachings were not meant for Arjuna alone, but was meant for the whole of mankind.
'Arjuna was only a pretext. The Gita provides answers to every human struggle and shows us how to live — not just successfully, but also peacefully,' he said.
The programme was attended by M.D. Sudarshan, Assistant Director of the Kannada and Culture Department, former Deputy Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation Pushpavalli, and others.

GVMC sets up single window clearance cell for Vinayaka Chavithi
Visakhapatnam : The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has established a single window clearance cell to manage Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations. A special cell has been set up at both the GVMC head office and the zonal offices to grant permission to the public, resident welfare associations, NGOs, voluntary organizations, and festival organizing committees for conducting the festivities. The GVMC commissioner, Ketan Garg, has advised city residents, RWAs, NGOs, and festival committees to use environmentally friendly clay Ganesh idols and strictly avoid idols made from chemical-based colors, plaster of Paris, or thermocol materials. He urged people to immerse the clay Ganesh idols in a bucket of water at home and for colony residents to utilize water tanks arranged near parks in their localities for idol immersion. The commissioner also instructed that permission must be obtained from the nodal officers with due compliance to regulations before setting up entertainment stages in public places. He emphasized that cleanliness and hygiene must be strictly maintained during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations. The GVMC has designated nodal officers at the head office and zonal offices to assist with the celebrations. Zonal commissioners, assistant medical officers, assistant city planners, and executive engineers at respective zonal offices can be contacted at the zonal level for any assistance or permissions.
