Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly has revealed she was left in tears upon receiving a letter announcing her MBE for services to broadcasting.
The 56-year-old has been honoured alongside her Strictly colleague Claudia Winkleman, who has also received an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours list.
For Tess however, the recognition almost didn't happen as the crucial letter had initially gone missing.
In a statement, she shared: "This genuinely came as the greatest surprise of my life. I don't think I've come back down to earth yet, I didn't see it coming, and it almost didn't happen, because the letter went to the wrong address.
"And thank goodness, someone very kind found me. And so by the time I got it, I only had, I think it was two or three days left to accept it. There's a deadline of acceptance. I can't imagine not ever wanting to accept such a wonderful award. But of course I did.
"It was a close call indeed, given it landed at the incorrect address initially, but thankfully all ended well."
Reflecting on her emotional reaction to the letter, she added: "I cried when I opened the letter, because I just I couldn't believe it. I genuinely couldn't, and the first thing I wanted to do was tell my dad, because I lost my dad many years ago, and I know how proud my dad would have been, and I would love to have shared that news with him more than anything.
"He would have been incredibly proud in a very Northern, humble fashion. Because you're under strict instructions, of course, not to share the news before it's made public. But I must admit, I did tell immediate members of my family and swore them to secrecy."

The presenter, who has co-hosted the BBC One dance contest since 2004, first graced our screens in 1999 when she fronted The Big Breakfast's Find Me A Model competition on Channel 4.
As a model herself, she has walked down the runway for renowned designers like Vivienne Westwood and Red Or Dead, and even featured in music videos for the English pop rock band Duran Duran.
In 2002, she hosted ITV2's coverage of celebrities arriving and celebrating backstage at the National Television Awards (NTAs). The following year, she took over from Ulrika Jonsson as the host of ITV's makeover programme Home On Their Own.
In 2004, she was appointed as co-presenter of Channel 5's Back To Reality, alongside Richard Bacon, a show that saw 12 reality TV stars cohabiting in a mansion in west London.
Her fame skyrocketed when she became the co-host of Strictly Come Dancing, presenting alongside the late Sir Bruce Forsyth until 2014, three years prior to his death at the age of 89.

Since then, she has co-presented the Saturday night show with Traitors presenter Claudia, and the duo led the coverage of its 20th anniversary series late last year.
In 2024, the show received the entertainment programme award at the Bafta TV Awards.
Upon being awarded her MBE, Tess stated: "It feels like the most wonderful honour, because when you work as a broadcaster, you're part of people's viewing habits.
"It feels like a genuine privilege for people to invite you into their living room. For example, being part of Strictly and part of people's Saturday nights for the past 20 years is something that you don't ever take that for granted, and it's just something that I've genuinely enjoyed being a part of all these years.
"And as a career, it's been something really special to share people's lives in that way it feels like a wonderful honour."

She went on to say: "Broadcasting is without a doubt a collective effort. I've been really fortunate to work with some of the very best production teams that there are in the business. And so my biggest thanks is to them, because you're only as good as your team."
Tess will be making her comeback to the show later this year, alongside Claudia. The new cast of celebrities hoping to win the Glitterball trophy will be announced in due course.

With the three having their arms around each other in the snap, he captioned: "My dads a rock." It comes as Freddy made a shock U-turn on plans to enter rehab – just days after admitting he's been hooked on smoking since the age of 12. The Celebrity Race Across The World alum shared a dramatic change of heart on Instagram over the weekend. Posting a black and white throwback of himself as a child, Freddy wrote: 'You know what I don't need rehab! I just need a holiday with a good group of boys or a retreat.' Freddy stunned followers when he opened up about a long-standing smoking addiction and a desire to make peace with his dad after a tense family rift. The 20-year-old, revealed he wanted to get help in Spain for cannabis, saying he 'wants a healthy relationship with his dad'. In a heartfelt post, he said: 'I want to be clean so I can life happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather then feeling like I'm in the middle and have to choose a side.' Freddy also shared hopes of mending things with his famous father, saying: 'I want to play football and take up boxing. I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father.' Elsewhere, elder son Bobby has "become a Hare Krishna" and is "seeking solace" in rituals following mum Jade's death. Freddy Brazier reunites with dad Jeff before heading to rehab in Spain amid concern over gran's 'harmful' influence The former Strictly finalist has become a regular at the Hare Krishna temple in Soho, where he takes part in communal prayers, chants mantras and helps prepare meals. Friends say Bobby's interest in spirituality has grown over the past year and is helping him process the lasting impact of losing his mum to cervical cancer in 2009, when he was just five. A volunteer at the temple told MailOnline: 'He's here every Saturday without fail. He joins our kitchen session, learns the prayers – this isn't a gimmick.' A family friend added: 'Bobby had a difficult life. His mum dying left a mark on him, as it would. "Hare Krishna is somewhere he seeks solace. It might seem strange, but for him, it works.' Last year, The Sun published images of Bobby joining in cha-cha-chanting at a Hare Krishna gathering on Oxford Street, where he was even seen handing out leaflets. Bobby said of the movement: 'I've had the blessing of meeting some incredible devotees who have really taken me under the wing and been really merciful upon me. "And they are just the most beautiful, happy, content, smart, intelligent people.' The young actor will also soon be leaving his EastEnders role as Freddie Slater. Inside Bobby Brazier's burgeoning TV career Bobby Brazier has risen through the ranks to become a well known face on British TV. As the son of Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier, he has been well-known amongst the public from a young age. Bobby first embarked on a showbiz career when he was just 16-years old when he started modelling. The star made his catwalk debut in 2020 at Milan Fashion Week, but it wasn't long before he had his eyes on a TV career. He shot to prominence in 2022 when he was cast as Freddie Slater in EastEnders. The incredibly acting skills displayed on screen earned him the National Television Award in the 'Rising Star' category. His famous dad was in tears as Bobby accepted the award on stage in front of the likes of Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond. It wasn't long before BBC bosses wanted him to take part in the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing. He clearly impressed the viewers with his dancing skills as he made the grand final and was a runner-up. Since then, viewers were delighted when he returned to his role in the long-running BBC One soap. An EastEnders spokeswoman said: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' A telly insider revealed: 'Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show. 'The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet. 'The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.'

Jamie Borthwick makes attempts to 'right wrongs' to 'save EastEnders career' after being suspended for using disabled slur on Strictly set

Jamie Borthwick has made a last-minute attempt to 'save his career' by sincerely apologising for using a shocking slur against disabled people. The actor, who has played Jay Brown for 19 years, has been suspended by the BBC after he used a slur aimed at disabled people on the set of Strictly. A video obtained by The Sun showed the EastEnders actor using the term 'm********s' to describe residents of Blackpool where the show was being filmed at the time. He was reportedly backstage during rehearsals with Wynne Evans who could be heard saying 'Oh my God' when he made the remark. He has since issued an apology, sharing that he did not fully understand the derogatory nature of the term he used but now that he is aware, he is 'deeply embarrassed'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. With his future on the fictional Walford set unclear, Jamie is now said to be scrambling to 'clean up' his act ahead of crunch talks with high-level EastEnders bosses. The Sun reports the 30-year-old told a former partner this week how it was 'not clear' if he would return to EastEnders. The newspaper quoted Jamie as saying: 'I accept the karma that has come my way due to some bad choices.' It continued that Jamie told how he was now 'attempting to write the wrongs in my life'. He added he wanted to 'sincerely apologise for the mistakes I made and for hurting you and how I handled the whole situation'. MailOnline has contacted a representative for Jamie. In a groveling apology, Jamie previously said in a statement: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning.' A spokesperson for the BBC said: 'This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. 'We have robust processes in place for this.' It's the second Strictly-related controversy Jamie has found himself in after he and Wynne were reportedly blasted by BBC bosses over a shocking sex toy video. In footage obtained by The Sun on Sunday in April, the two stars were filmed backstage after the opera singer sent a sex toy to the EastEnders star. Filmed just two days after Wynne was recorded making a vile sexual comment to Jamie about pro dancer Janette Manrara , the video sees Jamie claiming the toy was sent to Birmingham's Utilita Arena reception by Wynne.

Bobby Brazier shuts down family rift reports with heartfelt message to dad Jeff

Bobby Brazier has appeared to quash rumours of a feud in the Brazier family by sharing a sweet Father's Day message. The 2023 Strictly Come Dancing finalist was said to have 'turned his back' on dad Jeff Brazier. According to a family insider, the EastEnders actor, who will exit the soap later this year, has moved out of their Essex home to live in Soho, where he's focused on 'following his own path,' which includes spirituality. The reports followed an intense couple of weeks for his 20-year-old brother Freddy Brazier, who publicly admitted that he 'doesn't want to see' Jeff, accusing him of being image-obsessed without consideration for 'his own sons'. He is also due to enter rehab, having shared that he's been addicted to smoking since the age of 12, while Jeff is allegedly seeking legal action to prevent his youngest from spending time with his grandmother, Jackiey Budden. Despite all of this, Bobby appears keen to maintain a positive public-facing image. Taking to his Instagram Story this evening, the 22-year-old wished Jeff a happy Father's Day with four words that made it clear how he feels about him. 'My dads a rock. [sic]', his caption read. Bobby accompanied the declaration with a photo of not just himself and Jeff, but Freddy too. Taken from behind, it showed the three of them looking out at a vibrant sunset on the beach. With Jeff in the middle, he had his arms around both boys. The post was completed with Adele's emotional ballad Hometown Glory playing over the top. Bobby's unexpected affectionate post is a stark contrast to the details of his so-called strained relationship with his father reported just days ago. According to the Daily Mail, Bobby's new residence is close to Hare Krishna HQ, where he is said to have turned to process the distance that is thought to have grown between him and Jeff. A source close to the family said: 'Bobby's always had a spiritual side, but this is intentional. It's clear he's trying to leave all the fighting and noise behind. 'Freddy's rebellion is loud—drugs, public slanging matches, and legal battles about his nana—while Bobby's is quiet. But actually it's just as defiant. 'He's turning his back on the life his Dad created for them in Essex and following his own path.' It's reported that he shows up to Hare Krishna HQ 'every Saturday without fail', joining in the kitchen sessions, lessons, and prayers. 'This isn't a gimmick,' an insider insisted. This Morning host Jeff is said to be 'heartbroken' at how things have developed, especially with Freddy coming out with such a public tongue-lashing. In his own interview with the Mail, Freddy did not hold back, also claiming that he and Bobby 'don't speak much either'. 'I sent him a message to wish him a happy birthday, but that's it,' he admitted. 'I used to be the middleman between my dad and everyone. But now I can't be bothered. I don't care what happens.' Freddy also said his brother is the 'fiery' one in their household. 'I'm chilled out—I zone out and walk away when we argue.' Elsewhere in the chat, Freddy said he wouldn't be seeing his dad on Father's Day, having also avoided posting anything online to mark the occasion. More Trending Freddy, who was just four when his mum Jade Goody died from cervical cancer in 2009 at age 27, added: 'But that's because I feel like I'm being hung out. I don't really deserve it.' However, he's not ruling out the possibility of building bridges, having said he wants to 'be clean so [he] can live happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of [his] family' ahead of entering rehab. Mentioning Jeff explicitly, he said in a recent Instagram Story statement that updated fans on his well-being: 'I haven't been able to feel love properly as I have never loved myself and it starts now I want to play football and take up boxing I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father'. Nan Jackiey is Goody's mother. She has also spoken about her struggles with drug use in the past, also making it clear how she feels about Jeff in public rants using the C-word. Got a story?
