Tom Jones isn't just an incredible vocalist, but it turns out he is also a brilliant matchmaker. Former Catatonia singer, Cerys Matthews has her long time friend Sir Tom to thank for setting her up with her husband of 14 years.
In 2011, Cerys married Steve 'Abbo' Abbott, a music manager and member of post-punk band UK Decay. However, this may well not have happened if the Sex Bomb singer hadn't set them up. Tom had told the pair that they found each other attractive and the rest was history.
At the time, the music manager hadn't even heard of Catatonia as he was living in America. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
Steve said: "I lived in America, so I missed Catatonia. I only knew them because I was working with Tom Jones and he recorded with her. It was Tom actually that put us together. He and Mark, his son, knew we had a lot of common interests."
The pair of Welsh singers already had a close bond as in 1999 Cerys Matthews and Sir Tom Jones, had duetted together on the festive hit 'Baby, It's Cold Outside'.

Steve continued: "We were out with them in Ronnie Scott's one night, I was her manager, and she went to the toilet and Tom said, 'Hey, boyo, I think she fancies you.'
"I'm like, 'Get out. Get away from it.' I went to the toilet, and he said to her, 'I think your manager fancies you.' No conversation happened, and that's how we ended up together."
Now, after 14 years of marriage the couple are raising five beautiful children in their blended family .

The pair's relationship is built on their shared interests, one of which is of course music, and Steve says that he and the 'Mulder and Scully' hitmaker both value meaningful lyrics over melody in songs.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he explained: "A great song with great lyrics, oh my goodness. I'll always listen to the lyrics.

"Some of the radio shows I listen to, you get a great tune that starts, and then the lyrics, 'I want to be me / I want to be free / Can I be free? I want to be me / That's what I want to be.' I'm like, 'Oh my God. Bloody awful lyrics.' I just can't listen to it.
"Actually, my wife Cerys is the same, the lyric is so important. The melody is important but having a great lyric is so important."

The Last Laugh is a brilliant comedy with a moving twist and added extra
The Last Laugh is a brilliant comedy with a moving twist and added extra Bringing Welsh legend Tommy Cooper to life The Last Laugh at the Wales Millennium Centre had me hysterics The Last Laugh is showing in the Wales Millennium Centre (Image: Steph Colderick) I have never been to the theatre to see a full comedy performance before, especially one that doesn't have a plot, so I was not sure what to expect when I sat down at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay to watch The Last Laugh. Featuring a portrayal of Welsh legend Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe, and Bob Monkhouse, this theatre production had me in stitches. It very accurately portrays the three British comedy legends who hold a very soft spot in the public's heart. There were rapid jokes, quick gags, and sarcasm galore which kept the audience entertained. With a run time of 90 minutes it was the perfect time to sit down, have a giggle and not get lost in the production. Bob Golding as Eric Morecambe was a standout; he nailed the character and was the comedian I personally found the funniest to watch and enjoy. What surprised me most about the production was the moving twist. While packed with jokes, the comedy also touched on very serious matters, like divorce, suicide, and what life is really like as a comedian who is on the road. This is all done very delicately, still with humour, and adds an extra depth and sentiment to the performance. It was not something I was expecting from the comedy, but it added to the show and showed the talented skills of the actors. The added extra was that the cast, Bob Golding as Eric Morecambe, Damian Williams as Tommy Cooper, and Simon Cartwright as Bob Monkhouse, did a question-and-answer session at the end of the performance. I have never been to a theatre production that has done that before, so it was really interesting to get an insight into the men behind the characters and learn about the comedians in a fun, interactive, and historical way. Article continues below Overall, if you love Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, or Bob Monkhouse, I would highly recommend going to see The Last Laugh. It is fun, light-hearted, entertaining, and you get a lot for the price of your ticket.

Swifties are already predicting that the album's sound as being 'glitter gel pen pop' which, if her previous work is anything to go by, will make it light, lively, and a huge contrast to the reflective tone of her previous release, The Tortured Poets Department, as this one seems to look almost designed to lift moods. Was the announcement date significant? It's hard to say. Fans often like to piece all of the singer's moods together with the thinking that every move is intentional and while she hasn't categorically shared why she's made the announcement, the news did come The at 12.12am on August 12 – a possible nod to it being her 12th studio album. Content cannot be displayed without consent The number theme ran through the launch from 12 orange-themed photos recently shared by her official management team, to months-old hints like standing beside a gate marked 'A12' in a 2024 video she shared on TikTok, which you can see at the beginning of the clip if you look closely. Content cannot be displayed without consent When will we hear more? Taylor is expected to share more details in the full New Heights episode, which will be released on Wednesday, August 13, at 7pm ET (midnight in the UK).
