Honouring 'The Kerala Story' endorses use of films to spread communal hatred, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The film had courted controversy for its portrayal of women in Kerala being forcefully converted and recruited by the terror group Islamic State. read more Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that awarding national film honours to 'The Kerala Story' can only be seen as an endorsement of attempts to misuse movies to spread communal hatred and urged the cultural and film community to oppose such moves unitedly. Vijayan said it was 'extremely unfortunate' that a film which insults Kerala's secular traditions and defames it before the world was honoured at the national film awards. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'This also insults the great cultural heritage of Indian cinema and sends out the message that art should be used to destroy the secularism of our country and replace it with communalism,' he said, prior to inaugurating the Kerala Film Policy Conclave here. He said that the film community needs to wake up against such a 'distorted' portrayal of Kerala and put an end to such moves. Filmmaker Sudipto Sen won the Best Director award for his film 'The Kerala Story', which also received the award for Best Cinematography. The film had courted controversy for its portrayal of women in Kerala being forcefully converted and recruited by the terror group Islamic State. Vijayan also said that it needs to be examined why the Kerala film industry has not received the level of recognition it deserves and hoped that it would be a topic of discussion at the conclave held at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall inside the Legislative Assembly complex in Thiruvananthapuram. He further said that the conclave was organised with the aim of formulating a comprehensive film policy for the all-round growth and development of Malayalam cinema, as it was imperative to modernise and expand it with the changing times. State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian, who presided over the event, said that it was decided to hold such a conclave following the recommendations in the Justice Hema Committee report to tackle issues of sexual exploitation, discrimination, wage disparity and unfair working conditions prevalent in the film industry. Around 500 delegates, including representatives from the Malayalam film industry like Mohanlal and Suhasini Maniratnam, film personalities from outside the state and abroad, participated in the conclave.

'If Pakistan Commits Another Sin...': PM Modi's 'BrahMos' Warning At Varanasi Rally

PM Modi Dedicates Op Sindoor's Success to Lord Mahadev, Slams Cong-SP for Defending Terrorists Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated the success of Operation Sindoor, India's precision retaliation against Pakistan-based terror hubs, to Lord Mahadev, in a powerful declaration of justice and vengeance. Speaking in Varanasi, his first visit after the attack, Modi recalled the Pahalgam massacre, where 26 civilians, including women and children, were brutally killed by The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Modi said he had taken a vow to avenge the spilled "sindoor" of India's daughters, and Operation Sindoor, followed by Operation Mahadev, was that sacred retribution. Modi also launched a blistering attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party, accusing them of sympathising with Pakistan and questioning the bravery of India's security forces. Addressing a public rally, PM Modi took a dig at Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav by saying, 'Pakistan is crying, and so is Congress and SP. They are hurt by the death of terrorists in Operation Sindoor.'#operationsindoor, #mahadev, #modiinvaranasi, #terrorattack, #trf, #lashkaretaiba, #pahalgamattack, #indianarmy, #modispeech, #kashmirterror, #modivsterror, #retaliationstrike, #modiinuttarpradesh, #modiinpahalgam, #sindoorrevenge, #modiblessing, #kashmirsurgicalstrike, #pakistancries, #congressappeasement, #modivscongress, #rahulgandhi, #akhileshyadav, #samajwadiparty, #india, #breakingnews, #trending, #bharat, #toi, #toibharat, #indianews 5.0K views | 1 hour ago

Remove Ads New Delhi: Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the 25 per cent tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on questioned whether the BJP government has become so vulnerable that discussions regarding strategic initiatives or oil procurement are subject to interference from US President Trump."Trump has created a state of confusion. Neither the government nor PM Modi made any statement in the House or took responsibility... Have we become so weak that even discussing strategies prompts interference from Trump?... The saddest part is when we discuss the trade balance, especially since we have about 130 billion dollars worth of trade with the US. Our position is strong on this, so there is no reason for America to dominate us... PM Modi should come forward and clarify the entire situation regarding India's decision... We are a sovereign country, but such interference contradicts the dignity of the nation," he on Wednesday made a shocking statement on his social media platform Truth Social after the announcement of 25 per cent tariffs against India and threatened an additional "penalty" for importing Russian oil."I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India; their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world," Trump later signed a fresh executive order imposing revised tariffs for 70 countries, including imposed on India's neighbouring countries are less than India's 25 per cent, except for Myanmar at 40 per cent.
