Report: Raiders S Lonnie Johnson Jr. suffered broken fibula

Reuters2 days ago
August 3 - First-year Las Vegas Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr., was carted off the field during Saturday's practice at Allegiant Stadium with a broken fibula in his right leg, according to multiple reports on Sunday.
Johnson, 29, will reportedly undergo an MRI exam to determine if there is any additional damage. Depending on the severity of the injury, including if surgery is required, recovery could range anywhere from 10 weeks to six months.
The six-year pro collided with defensive end Maxx Crosby while attempting to tackle running back Raheem Mostert.
A projected backup this season, Johnson was receiving first-team reps when the defense featured three safeties.
Johnson agreed to a one-year deal with the Raiders during the offseason after spending three years with the Houston Texans (2019-21) and one each with the Tennessee Titans (2022), New Orleans Saints (2023) and Carolina Panthers (2024).
A second-round pick by Houston in 2019, Johnson has accumulated 199 tackles, 15 passes defended and four interceptions across 83 games (20 starts).

Brewers' Jackson Chourio, Jacob Misiorowski weeks away from IL return

August 6 - The National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers will have to make do without young outfielder Jackson Chourio and flamethrowing rookie Jacob Misiorowski for a while longer. Chourio is out for another 2-4 weeks due to his strained right hamstring, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday. Chourio hurt the hamstring running the bases on July 29 against the Chicago Cubs. He received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection and is showing improvement, according to Murphy. In his second MLB season, Chourio, 21, has batted .276 with 17 home runs, 67 RBIs and 18 stolen bases through 106 games. Meanwhile, Misiorowski last pitched on July 28 against Chicago and was scratched from his next start because of a left tibia contusion. Murphy said Misiorowski threw a bullpen session Tuesday and could return for mid-August. Misiorowski, 23, had a hot start to his career following a June call-up and was named an All-Star after an unprecedented five MLB games. In seven starts, Misiorowski is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and has 47 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. The Brewers have won seven of their past eight games as they continued a road series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. --Field Level Media

Former NFL RB LeShon Johnson convicted in federal dogfighting case

August 6 - Former NFL player LeShon Johnson has been convicted on six federal felony counts for his role in operating a large-scale dogfighting ring in Oklahoma, federal prosecutors announced on Monday. The 54-year-old, who played for the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants in the 1990s, now faces up to 30 years in prison and fines totaling up to $1.5 million. The charges stem from a years-long investigation into Johnson's operation, which authorities say was responsible for one of the largest dogfighting cases ever prosecuted in the U.S. Federal agents seized 190 dogs from Johnson's properties in Broken Arrow and Haskell, Okla., calling it the largest seizure of its kind in a federal dogfighting case. Many of the animals were found to be injured or scarred. Investigators also uncovered equipment used to train dogs for fighting, including treadmills, bite sticks, steroids and detailed records of fights and breeding activity. Prosecutors said Johnson operated under the name "Mal Kant Kennels," where he bred and sold dogs -- mostly pit bulls-- trained for fighting. Evidence presented at trial included financial records showing more than $400,000 in sales over four years, with transactions conducted via Cash App, some involving out-of-state and even international buyers. This was not Johnson's first brush with the law over animal cruelty. He was previously convicted on state animal fighting charges in Oklahoma in 2005 but avoided prison time. Authorities believe Johnson may have been involved in dogfighting even during his NFL career, which ended in 1999. --Field Level Media

Sophie Cunningham admits she fears getting hit in the face by a sex toy but calls wild WNBA trend 'funny'

Sophie Cunningham may be unfazed while playing in the WNBA with her spunky and physical style. A new fear may have been unlocked for the Indiana dynamo amid the league's sex-toy epidemic. Three different instances of neon green sex toys have been thrown on the court during league games over the last several days, prompting each player to raise their guard about possibly encountering such an item at their place of work. Cunningham addressed the tossing of sex toys on the court during the latest episode of her podcast. 'I was thinking about like, if someone threw that thing and like, first of all, the bounce that that thing had, if that smacks someone in the face, you know that's gonna be plastered everywhere,' Cunningham said. 'I just know how things go viral now. And I just know that thing like, even came from like the rafters or bounced and just slapped me right in the face. That would be what I'd be known for, for life. So I was just trying to protect all of our images.' One online gambling website took the fiasco to another level, as they offered six vulgar bets about the next possible instance of the unique disruption. 'Funny thing is like my parents and my sister, they literally text me after or before every single game, saying, "Good luck,"' Cunningham continued. 'I'll send it so everyone can see this. But my mom goes, instead of like my good luck text, she goes, "Watch out for flying (sex toys) tonight." And then the other one said, "Did you really just post the (sex toy) tweet?" It got some legs.' The Fever return to action Wednesday night, again without Caitlin Clark for the eighth straight game, against the Los Angeles Sparks, with officials on high alert for another flying disruption. In shocking scenes during the Chicago Sky's game against the Golden State Valkyries last month, the sex object was hurled from the stands during the third quarter. Officials swiftly stopped the game and swept the bright green object aside, as players and coaches stood bemused at the bizarre incident. The commentators were equally as puzzled as they said: 'We have a whistle away from the basketball. An object has been thrown onto the court'. Sky star Kamilla Cardoso, however, evidently saw the funny side to the incident after being seen giggling with teammates while they game was brought to a stop.
