Halo Season 3: Latest update on renewal status and everything we know so far
If you're a Halo fan, you're probably on the edge of your seat wondering about Season 3 of the Paramount+ series. The show, which brings the legendary video game universe to life, has had its share of ups and downs, but it's left us all craving more of Master Chief's adventures. So, what's the deal with Halo Season 3? Is it happening, or are we stuck in a cliffhanger limbo? Here's everything we know so far. The Current State of Halo Season 3
As of July 2025, Halo Season 3 is still up in the air. Paramount+ pulled the plug on the series in July 2024 after two seasons, leaving fans stunned, especially after that jaw-dropping Season 2 finale. The cancellation wasn't entirely out of left field—word on the street (or rather, industry reports) suggests the show's massive budget, rumored to be around $200 million for Season 1 alone, was a tough pill for Paramount+ to swallow. Add to that some rocky fan feedback, and the streamer decided to call it quits.
But here's the good news: the Halo team isn't giving up. The show's producers, backed by Xbox, 343 Industries, and Amblin Television, are pitching the series to other platforms. Netflix is the big name in the mix, especially since Halo Season 1 landed on their platform in March 2025 and shot up to the fourth most-watched English-language series globally, racking up 4.2 million views and 32.1 million hours watched in its first week. That kind of buzz has fans hopeful that Netflix might just save the day. Could Netflix Save Halo Season 3?
The recent surge in Halo 's popularity on Netflix has given fans a glimmer of hope. Netflix has a history of reviving canceled shows, such as Lucifer , You , and Manifest , when they perform well on the platform. Since its debut on Netflix in March 2025, Halo has seen strong viewership in countries like Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines, suggesting it could find a new audience. Fans have taken to social media to urge Netflix to pick up the series, with comments like, 'Halo on Netflix is 10/10. Please go watch it so we can get a season 3!'
However, a revival faces challenges. Reviving a show requires renegotiating cast contracts, securing funding for its high-budget production, and ensuring enough viewer demand to justify the investment. With Season 2 airing over a year ago, many actors, including lead Pablo Schreiber (Master Chief), may have moved on to other projects, complicating a potential return. Additionally, Netflix's track record shows that revivals are rare unless a show demonstrates exceptional performance, as seen with Manifest . While Halo 's recent streaming numbers are promising, it's unclear if they're strong enough to warrant a third season.

This Coen Brothers comedy is an underrated Netflix movie to watch this weekend (August 1-3)
Opening Netflix in 2025 is a very different experience than it was 10 years ago. The movie selection is tilted much more toward movies that Netflix produced, and as a result, you're often served up a lot of pretty trashy titles. Don't get me wrong, Netflix has made some great original movies, but it's also made plenty of terrible ones. That's why picking what you want to watch from the service can be something of a challenge. This week, we've pulled together three underrated titles that are all worth your time for very different reasons: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Burn After Reading (2008) One of the Coen brothers' less celebrated films, in part because it came in the immediate wake of No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading tells the farcical story of two gym employees who try to blackmail a former CIA analyst after they stumble upon classified information. Along the way, we see just how stupid many of the people who work in the government are and how their bumbling lives intersect with occasionally deadly consequences. Burn After Reading is deeply funny, but it's also a movie about the people who run our country and how fundamentally pathetic most of them are. You can watch Burn After Reading on Netflix. American Graffiti (1973) A movie made in 1973 that looks backward to an even earlier time, American Graffiti is one of the definitive teen movies, even if it's not George Lucas' crowning achievement. The film follows a group of friends who all have different adventures on the last night of summer vacation before they go off to school or to find gainful employment. The movie itself is mostly lighthearted, but it's also a wistful look at a particular moment in life when things don't feel totally real yet, and you can do anything you want. You can watch American Graffiti on Netflix. The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) Aaron Sorkin's directorial career has been fascinating and strange, but there's a lot to like in The Trial of the Chicago 7. Based on true events, the film follows the trial of seven defendants who were a part of countercultural protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The movie's at its best when it's exploring the tension between the various groups within this trial. The trial reminds us how close these events truly are to the present day. Although the writing is definitely flowery in an Aaron Sorkin way, the movie is compelling throughout, in part because courtroom dramas are such a sturdy formula. You can watch The Trial of the Chicago 7 on Netflix.

Hulk Hogan to be cremated, memorial service plans revealed
Memorial plans have been set for Hulk Hogan a week after the legendary wrestler died at age 71. Hogan will be laid to rest in a memorial service on Aug. 5, set to take place at a church in Tampa, Florida, a source told Us Weekly. Documents obtained by the outlet on Thursday also revealed that Hogan's body will be cremated. The Pinellas County Forensic Science Center in Largo, Florida, approved the cremation on Wednesday. Hogan's death was confirmed on Thursday to be the result of an acute myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack. His manner of death was listed as natural. Although few other details were provided, official records cited by Us Weekly said the wrestling star also had a history of leukemia CLL, a type of cancer that usually impacts older adults and affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. It's unclear when Hogan was diagnosed with CLL or if he was battling the cancer in the days before his death. At the time of his passing, the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Famer was reportedly in the midst of filming a Netflix documentary about his life and career. Sources associated with the doc told CNN the previously unannounced project has been in the works since 2024. Producers reportedly culled more than 20 hours of unseen sit-down interviews with Hogan, in addition to 30 hours of scenes already shot. According to an insider, viewers are promised to 'see a side of (Hogan) they haven't seen before.' The plan is still to complete the film as production remains ongoing, though certain portions will have to be reworked, sources said. A release date has not yet been set.

'Happy Gilmore 2' Just Broke Netflix Records
Happy Gilmore 2landed onNetflixlast Friday, and in just three days racked up 46.7 million streams. It's the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history. The sequel had all the makings of a perfect storm. Golf is having a cultural reawakening, intersecting more than ever with recognizable names in entertainment, sports and fashion. The original Happy Gilmore is already a cult classic, cementingAdam Sandler's rise in comedy and delivering one of cinema's most memorable golf scenes (Bob Barker, anyone?). But the sequel went bigger, built almost entirely around cameos from figures orbiting golf culture plus some of the game's biggest names:Bad Bunny,Travis Kelce,Scottie Scheffler,Nelly Korda, Jack Nicklaus and Fred Couples come to mind. The marketing push matched the scale, with brands like U.S. Bank, Callaway and Subway jumping in on the hype, while Netflix fostered a sense of urgency with a limited streaming window from July 25–31. Whether the movie leaned too hard into campiness or cameo culture is up for debate, but the numbers speak for themselves. A golf franchise, one that sat dormant for nearly 30 years, just became Netflix's most-watched opening weekend ever. That alone is a cultural milestone worth noting.
