Dibba Al Hisn Duo Theatre Festival concludes its 8th edition
'Profile 'concludes the shows The audience on the final night watched the Egyptian play 'Profile', performed by the "Layali Al-Masri" troupe. Nahed El-Tahan wrote the play, Enas Al-Masri provided dramaturgy and direction, and actors Mai Reda and Nashwa Mohammed performed. A fusion of mythology and literature The play presents an imaginative meeting between Medea—a mythological Greek figure who exacted brutal revenge on her unfaithful husband—and Amina, a character from Naguib Mahfouz's 'Cairo Trilogy'. In this portrayal, Amina is reimagined as a modern Egyptian woman who accepts her difficult life, dedicating herself to her family and running a TikTok cooking channel as a means of livelihood. Differing views on marriage The encounter between Medea and Amina, separated by centuries, highlights contrasting perspectives on marriage. Medea embodies anger and vengeance in response to betrayal, while Amina values preserving her home and caring for her daughters, overlooking her husband's marriage to another woman in his quest for a son. Enriched performance Staged in a realistic setting, the performance relied on dialogue to draw out the ideological divide between the two women. Video projections illustrated Medea's mythical journey from the sun to Earth and reflected Amina's engagement with social media. Music and sound effects helped transition between scenes and added emotional depth to specific moments. Critical session A post-performance critical session, moderated by Egyptian theatre artist Fady Nashat, saw participants commend the efforts of the team and the play's ambition in addressing the societal status of women. Diverse programme The eighth edition of the Dibba Al Hisn Duo Theatre Festival, which began on Friday, 23 May, featured five theatrical productions, including 'Profile'. Other performances included '17 Hours' by Sharjah National Theatre, 'Individual Salvation' by Syria's Tajamu Ashjar troupe, 'Life and Dream' by Morocco's Al-Shamat Theatre, and 'To Prepare a Boiled Egg ' by Kuwait Theatre. The festival also hosted the 20th Sharjah Arab Theatre Forum and held three workshops for school theatre facilitators in directing, scenography, and puppetry. A festival founded to foster theatrical exchange Established in 2016, the Dibba Al Hisn Duo Theatre Festival was launched in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of expanding and diversifying theatrical activity in the emirate and building bridges of communication and knowledge exchange between Emirati and Arab theatre professionals.

iQIYI has developed a MENA-specific content library, offering Chinese-language dramas, films, animations and variety shows thoughtfully adapted to reflect local tastes and cultural preferences. iQIYI, China's online entertainment platform, has made significant moves to expand its reach in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The company signed a content partnership with Egypt's Arabic streaming service, Watch IT. Just three days later, it launched its new MENA branch in Dubai, marking a stronger operational foothold in the region. These developments are part of iQIYI's broader localisation strategy, which is based on extensive market research. The company aims to promote Chinese storytelling internationally while incorporating more regional content into its platform. Identifying MENA as a market rich in history and brimming with potential due to increasing demand for digital entertainment, iQIYI is tailoring its strategy to better connect with local audiences. Through the partnership with Watch IT, the Egyptian platform will distribute a selection of iQIYI's premium Chinese-language films and series, including hit shows like Road Home and Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty. In exchange, iQIYI will stream Watch IT's original documentary Mother of the World, which explores the evolution of ancient Egyptian civilization through archaeological findings. In addition, iQIYI International will feature other select Arabic-language originals from Watch IT, expanding the diversity of its global content offerings. The new branch in Dubai enhances iQIYI's capacity to serve MENA audiences more effectively. The platform now offers a curated MENA content library that includes Chinese-language dramas, movies, animation and variety shows localised to suit regional tastes. The company is also working to improve streaming performance in the region and is negotiating with local telecom providers to broaden access to its content. In addition to its partnership with Watch IT, iQIYI has been collaborating with evision, the media and entertainment subsidiary of e&, since 2014. This partnership allows over 20 popular Chinese titles to be streamed across the MENA region through evision's Starz ON free streaming service. Speaking at the Dubai launch, Xianghua Yang, President of iQIYI's Movie & Overseas Business Group, noted the key support of ongoing collaborations with local partners in advancing the company's continued development in MENA. Egyptian film ‘Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo' Trailer nominated for Golden Trailer Awards
The film was inspired by a 2015 incident in Egypt where a viral video of a dog's brutal killing led to four men being jailed. The trailer for Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, the debut feature film by Egyptian director Khaled Mansour, has earned a nomination for Best Foreign Teaser at the Golden Trailer Awards — marking the first time an Egyptian trailer has been recognised in this category. Produced by Mohamed Hefzy through Film Clinic and marking Rasha Hosny's debut as a feature film producer, the film's global distribution is managed by Film Clinic Indie Distribution. Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo has already garnered several awards, including the Visual Identity and DCP Services Award from Creative Media Solutions at the fifth Amman Film Industry Days (AFID) and Amman Project Market. Additionally, it received production grants from the Red Sea Film Fund, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and Fonds Image de la Francophoni. Written by Mohamed El-Hosseiny and Khaled Mansour, the drama stars Essam Omar, Rakin Saad, Sama Ibrahim and Ahmed Bahaa. Seeking Haven For Mr. Rambo tells the story of a young man confronting his past fears to save his dog and best friend from an uncertain fate. Hassan is a man in his thirties, living with his mother and Rambo, his dog and best friend, in a poor neighbourhood. He hates having a steady job, but his mother pressures him to keep one so he can assist her with their daily expenses. After his mother threatens to cut off the little money she gives him, he decides to go back to his old job, working for Shiko as a sandwich seller. One night, when Hassan returns home, he gets into a fight with Karem, a neighbour working as a car mechanic. Hassan is hit hard, and in his defence, Rambo rushes down and bites Karem in the crotch. When Karem recovers, he tries to vindicate his lost pride. People of the neighbourhood suggest that Rambo is given to Karem, yet Hassan disagrees to such a deal, finding himself in a tough spot. Assisted by his friend Ahmed, who works in a poor governmental veterinary hospital, and Asmaa, a girl who loves Hassan, the protagonist begins a journey in which he attempts to move Rambo to a safe place within the country. Unfortunately, with Karem's connections within their neighbourhood, Hassan is being watched everywhere he goes. With the help of Jamila, an animal aid activist, Hassan finally succeeds in finding a shelter for his dog outside of the country. This drives Karem mad, and so Hassan and his mother are kicked out of their home, and left with an unknown fate.
