Monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly set to begin tomorrow
With a packed 12-day calendar comprising 10 sittings, the session is poised to witness pointed debates on pressing issues as the opposition prepares to challenge the government over the power crisis, rising inflation, transfer policies, and farmers' grievances, including fertiliser shortage in various areas.
According to Principal Secretary AP Singh, the Assembly Secretariat has received a total of 3,377 questions—1,718 starred and 1,659 unstarred—many submitted online, reflecting increased digital engagement by legislators. In addition, members have filed 226 call attention motions, one adjournment motion, 23 private resolutions, 65 Zero Hour notices, and a single Rule 139 notice.
The government plans to introduce three Bills during the session.
Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, after inspecting the Assembly premises on Sunday, emphasised that arrangements had been made for smooth and orderly conduct. 'No new restrictions have been imposed,' he stated, referring to recent directives prohibiting protests and sloganeering within the Assembly precincts—an order that has been sharply criticised by the opposition Congress party as an attempt to suppress democratic dissent.
The Speaker declined to comment on specific limitations regarding access within the premises.
Political dynamics are expected to intensify as opposition parties sharpen their strategy to hold the ruling establishment accountable on key governance challenges. In response, the government has readied its counter-narrative, highlighting its schemes and achievements.
Betul MLA Hemant Khandelwal, recently appointed as the new state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, will occupy a seat in the front row—symbolising his elevated role in both party and legislative affairs.
Security protocols have also been tightened. The Assembly Secretariat has issued a directive barring unauthorised entry into the premises and lobby areas, warning members against bringing individuals without prior permission, either on foot or by vehicle.
As the session opens, all eyes will be on the evolving battle of narratives between the treasury and opposition benches, with issues of governance, accountability, and public welfare taking centre stage.

BC quota panel gets one more year to submit report
CHENNAI: In an indication that the ruling DMK is ready to face the 2026 Assembly election without gesturing any assurances or action towards fulfilling the demand for 10.5 % reservation for Vanniyars by the PMK, the government has extended the time limit given to the Backward Classes Commission (BCC) by another one year till July 2026 to submit its report on the matter. This is the fifth extension being given to the BCC for examining the demand for internal reservation within the Most Backward Classes (MBCs) and Denotified Communities (DNCs) and submit a report. The previous deadline of July 12, 2025 was extended till July 12, 2026 through a government order on Wednesday. The examination of the demand for internal reservation and submission of a report was added as an additional term of reference (ToR) in January 2023 to the present BCC, which was constituted in November 2022 with a set of six terms of reference. Interestingly, the three-year term of the BCC, headed by Justice V Bharathidasan, retired judge of the Madras High Court, is ending by November. The government is likely to extend its term. When the BCC was tasked with studying the demand for internal reservation in January 2023, it was asked to submit its report in three months. However, the government has since extended the time limit four times over the past 2.5 years, citing that the commission requested extensions due to lack of quantifiable data of all communities included in the MBC and DNC lists.

A swimming pool constructed at a cost of over Rs 1.5 crore in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur remains unused years after its inauguration due to flawed site selection and poor planning, Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya told the state Assembly. In response to a question raised by BJP MLA Archana Chitnis, the minister confirmed that the project was approved in 2011 under the Backward Regions Grant Fund and the School Education Department. The total approved cost was Rs 1.35 crore, which rose to Rs 1.49 crore after the tender. The actual expenditure incurred was over Rs 1.51 crore. However, the facility has never been used. In his written reply, Vijayvargiya said, 'The swimming pool has not been used from the date of inauguration… It has not been used due to leakage in the pool tank…' MLA Archana Chitnis raised a series of questions, including whether the contractor was experienced, why a site without water was approved, and whether the conditions of the tender were altered. 'How can a swimming pool be operated without a water source? Who is responsible for such a short-sighted decision?' she asked, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability. The minister said the location selected for the swimming pool had no permanent source of water. 'In order to determine the responsibility for the said mistake, an inquiry committee has been constituted by the Directorate of Urban Administration and Development,' he said. The committee, formed on March 27 this year, is chaired by the Superintendent Engineer of the Ujjain Division. However, delays in submitting the report have led to a show cause notice being issued to officials. 'A show cause notice has been issued to the concerned persons and to the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Burhanpur, letter dated 22.07.2025, regarding not taking action against the responsible persons within the time limit,' the minister said.

MP R. Krishnaiah Accuses Congress of Betrayal on BC Reservation Promises
Hyderabad: Member of Parliament and BJP leader R. Krishnaiah made strong accusations against the ruling Congress government. He alleged that the government had deliberately neglected the welfare of the Backwards Classes (BC) despite its commitments made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration. Addressing the media on Friday, Krishnaiah criticised the Congress for failing to implement the promised 42% BC reservation. He claimed that the party was shifting responsibility by blaming the central government and the BJP. He pointed out that under Constitutional Amendments 73 and 74, specifically Clause 243D(6), state governments have the authority to decide local body reservations, which means the current Congress-led government could act immediately. He further alleged that the Congress was falsely claiming that the BJP had blocked the reservation bill, despite the BJP's declared support for also mentioned that no Government Order (GO) has been issued, even after the Assembly approved the measure. According to Krishnaiah, reservations should be based on caste professions rather than religion; he argued that including Muslims undermines the genuine representation of BC communities. Krishnaiah referenced past injustices, such as the diversion of 4% central BC reservation to Muslims under the UPA government, and condemned religious-based quotas. He cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's views, emphasising that reservations should specifically address caste-based discrimination. He commended the Modi government for conducting a national caste census, granting constitutional status to the National BC Commission, and launching initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to support caste professions. He also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the Prime Minister's identity concerning BC interests. Krishnaiah called on all BC leaders and groups to participate in a Mahadharna at Indira Park on August 2, demanding the implementation of the Kamareddy Declaration and exposing what he claimed were Congress's double standards. Krishnaiah stated that the Congress government lacks sincerity and transparency, asserting that only the BJP is genuinely committed to the empowerment of Backwards Classes.
