Among issues debated in Madhya Pradesh assembly – why a swimming pool has been unused since 2011
In response to a question raised by BJP MLA Archana Chitnis, the minister confirmed that the project was approved in 2011 under the Backward Regions Grant Fund and the School Education Department. The total approved cost was Rs 1.35 crore, which rose to Rs 1.49 crore after the tender. The actual expenditure incurred was over Rs 1.51 crore.
However, the facility has never been used.
In his written reply, Vijayvargiya said, 'The swimming pool has not been used from the date of inauguration… It has not been used due to leakage in the pool tank…'
MLA Archana Chitnis raised a series of questions, including whether the contractor was experienced, why a site without water was approved, and whether the conditions of the tender were altered.
'How can a swimming pool be operated without a water source? Who is responsible for such a short-sighted decision?' she asked, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability.
The minister said the location selected for the swimming pool had no permanent source of water. 'In order to determine the responsibility for the said mistake, an inquiry committee has been constituted by the Directorate of Urban Administration and Development,' he said.
The committee, formed on March 27 this year, is chaired by the Superintendent Engineer of the Ujjain Division. However, delays in submitting the report have led to a show cause notice being issued to officials.
'A show cause notice has been issued to the concerned persons and to the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Burhanpur, letter dated 22.07.2025, regarding not taking action against the responsible persons within the time limit,' the minister said.

PM Modi Felicitated By Har Har Mahadev Chants At NDA Meet
Legislative business in both Houses remains stalled as the Opposition parties are demanding an immediate debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The issue, which triggered major protests on Monday, has deepened the deadlock and disrupted parliamentary proceedings. Deputy Speaker Jagdambika Pal, who chaired the afternoon session yesterday, pointed out that not a single bill has been passed since the Monsoon Session began on July 21. Meanwhile, yesterday's Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned following the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Key leaders from the BJP, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Kiren Rijiju, are expected to participate in today's session. From the opposition, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, along with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, are also likely to attend. This is the third consecutive week of disruptions in Parliament, with no signs of a breakthrough. The Monsoon Session of the Parliament began on July 21 and is scheduled to run until August 21. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting today, marking the first such gathering during the current session and the first in quite some time. We Have Proof, Will Present In Court: Tejashwi Yadav On EC Irregularities In Bihar Voter Rolls
"A response will be given... Many names are missing from the voter list, and we have several irregularities by the Election Commission with us. We will send this to the Election Commission and also present it in court," Tejashwi told reporters before leaving for Ranchi to attend the last rites of veteran leader Shibu Soren. Yadav further elaborated, "We have demanded booth-wise data because many names have been deliberately excluded. For example, Vyas ji's name is missing. In some houses, over 50 voters have been removed. These are not minor errors; they are serious irregularities, and we have proof. We will send this evidence to the Election Commission and also submit it before the court." His remarks come amid an ongoing controversy over claims that he possesses dual voter ID cards. The Election Commission has issued a notice to Tejashwi, asking him to provide the EPIC number that he claimed was deleted from the Bihar voter list, despite the poll body stating that his name is present in the draft electoral roll. The BJP has sharply criticised Tejashwi, alleging that holding two voter ID cards is a criminal offence and demanding strict action against him. Meanwhile, Yadav confirmed that the RJD's planned "Vote Adhikar Yatra" has been postponed following the demise of Shibu Soren. "There has been a schedule change, but the new date for the Yatra will be announced soon," he said. Speaking about Shibu Soren's death, Yadav expressed deep sorrow. 'We received the sad news yesterday. We are now heading to Ranchi to pay our last respects. Shibu Soren ji fought for the poor, the underprivileged, and especially for tribal rights. He was also a long-time ally of my father and the RJD-JMM alliance. His passing is a political loss for the nation, and we offer our full condolences to his family.' Yadav is expected to join other national leaders at Nemra village in Jharkhand on Tuesday, where Soren's last rites will be performed.
