Intense Rachel McAdams Thriller Hits #8 on Netflix—and You're Not Gonna Wanna Watch This One on an Airplane

I'm always game for a Rachel McAdams movie—especially if it's a thriller.
Next in my streaming lineup is her 2005 horror classic Red Eye, which is the latest throwback movie to land in Netflix's top ten streaming list, currently sitting at the eighth spot on the platform. Also starring Cillian Murphy and Brian Cox, the film centers around a hotel manager (McAdams) who meets a charming man (Murphy) at the airport while waiting to fly back home for her grandmother's funeral.
At first, she believes their meeting is one of fate, especially after they are seated next to each other on the plane. She soon finds out, however, that the move was a calculated one, as the 'charming' gentleman has a more sinister plot at play that requires her assistance.
Directed by Wes Craven, Red Eye was released in August 2005 to positive reviews from fans and critics alike, and twenty years after its debut, it's getting a resurgence in popularity with a flurry of new fans. Holding an 80 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 64 percent on the Popcornmeter, one recent reviewer raves, 'Brilliant and clever claustrophobic suspenseful thriller (just don't watch it if you're on a plane). Wes Craven does really incredible work, creating a different tone of horror and making a suspenseful thriller. Cillian Murphy's performance was outstanding and sinister.'

Another reviewer adds, 'Fantastic cast. The chemistry that leads to the drama between the two main characters is delightful. While there's certainly suspension of belief as events cascade and consequences unroll, I was fully engaged and genuinely enjoyed the experience.'
Looks like I've got my next weekend watch lined up.
You can stream Red Eye on Netflix now.

‘The Sandman' Season 2 Release Schedule—When Do New Episodes Drop On Netflix?

The Sandman. Tom Sturridge as Dream in episode 203 of The Sandman. The second and final season of The Sandman, starring Tom Sturridge, has arrived. The first six episodes are now streaming on Netflix, but what about the rest of the season? This installment will roll out very differently from other shows on the platform, so make sure to keep reading for the full release schedule. Based on the beloved DC comic series, The Sandman Season 2 will deliver a 'thrilling conclusion' to Dream's story, according to the streamer. 'After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless (Sturridge) must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds,' the synopsis reads. 'To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything,' the description continues. Season 2 will bring several storylines from the comic books to the screen, including the 'Season of Mists,' 'Brief Lives,' 'The Kindly Ones,' and 'The Sandman: Overture' collections. It will also feature standalone stories such as 'Tales in the Sand,' 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' 'The Song of Orpheus,' 'Thermidor,' and 'The Tempest' and more. Unfortunately, the second season also marks the end of the costly series, which reportedly had a $15 million-per-episode budget in 2022. Showrunner Allan Heinberg recently told Netflix's Tudum that the decision to end the show was due to the limited remaining source material about Dream in the comics. 'The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,' Heinberg said. He added that he was grateful Netflix gave the series "the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics' loyal readers as well as fans of our show.' Helldivers 2 is the first PlayStation-published Xbox game

Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2 will make the jump to the Xbox Series X and S consoles on August 26th, costing $39.99. This is the first PlayStation-published title to launch on Xbox. The title will ship with cross play between all platforms. The cooperative PvE third-person shooter was an unexpected hit when it first launched simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC in early 2023. It soared in popularity on Steam, where it earned an 'overwhelmingly positive' rating, which flipped to 'overwhelmingly negative' when Sony introduced (then swiftly reversed) a decision to require a PSN login for PC players. Xbox's press release makes no mention of a PSN login, so it likely won't be required here. Helldivers 2 is a gem of a game that's high on hijinx. What initially seems like a serious sci-fi title often gives way to funny, emergent moments, thanks in part to its Strategem system, which requires you to input complex button combos while facing down swarms of enemies. There are a variety of missions you can take on against aliens, robots, and a newer Illuminate species. And, since it's a live-service title, the lore and the stakes are always evolving (and the developers often troll players). It's a fun world to be immersed in, even if you're just grinding the free battle pass for weapon upgrades. My former Polygon colleague Cass Marshall wrote some incredible Helldivers 2 coverage, which have the power to convince just about anyone that they were missing out on a good time. I mean, just look at these headlines below.
