Taylor Swift fans still cannot shake off her Norwich show
A decade on from Taylor Swift taking the stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, fans say her appearance had a lasting impact on their city.About 50,000 people flooded through the gates of Earlham Park in Norwich for the festival across three days in May 2015. With songs including Shake it Off and Love Story, Swift featured on the line-up among stars including Charli xcx, Muse and Snoop Dogg.Culture and leisure development manager at Norwich City Council, Clare Hubery, said: "It really helped to raise the profile of the city for people across the country."
Biffy Clyro, Natasha Bedingfield, Sam Fender, Myles Smith and Mumford and Sons are among headline acts at this year's Big Weekend in Sefton Park, Liverpool.
'Massive operation'
Tickets for the festival 10 years ago sold out within 40 minutes, with 75% of them being awarded to people with a Norfolk postcode. "It was incredible, and it was so enormous," Ms Hubery said.Norwich City Council worked with BBC Radio 1 on the event, which Ms Hubery estimated took a year to plan."For people who turn up on the day, hopefully it's all seamless and you arrive and have a lovely time, but actually it's months and months of planning," she said. "I remember having meetings with train companies to make sure everyone could get home after the event."It was quite a massive operation really."
One of the stand out performers of the weekend was Swift, who took the stage on the last day of the weekend."I was lucky enough to see her again at her Eras Tour and thought, 'wow, she was in Norwich at Earlham Park'." She also noted Snoop Dogg's appearance where he took to the stage in a personalise Norwich City FC shirt, as a particular favourite.
For superfan Ellen Siegert, knowing one of her idol's had performed close to home, was "special".The 20-year-old from Hopton, Norfolk, did not attend the event in Earlham Park, however, she managed to see the global superstar on her Era's Tour last year - a night she described as a "dream come true". She said: "We joke quite a lot that nothing that big ever happens here, so when Taylor came, it was massive, massive news."Among fans, Ms Siegert caused a stir in her Era's Tour outfit made from bed sheets replicating one of Swift's own costumes.
'Getting into the spirit'
Since BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich, Ms Hubery said more concerts have been held in Earlham Park.Craig David is performing there on 29 June."It was the first concert on that scale, and first big music event," she said. "I think Norwich demonstrated that we can do these kinds of things well, and people turn out and get into the spirit of it."In the future, she hopes more artists will be attracted to the city."It would be fantastic to see Taylor or anyone else back in Norwich on that level... It would be great to have a big festival there again."

UK's oldest white-tailed eagle dies aged 32
The eagle, a female named Frisa, hatched on Mull in 1992 and paired up with her long-term mate Skye in 1997. The pair raised their first chick on the island in 1998, and went on to raise a total of 25 chicks in their 28 years of partnership. Frisa was known to 'millions' thanks to appearances in a number of BBC programmes over the last two decades, beginning with the very first episode of Springwatch in 2005. Her death was announced on the latest episode of the programme on June 2. RSPB ambassador Dave Sexton, who spent 21 of his 36-year RSPB career working with white-tailed eagles on Mull, described Frisa as 'a very special bird who had touched the hearts of millions who saw her both on TV and in the wild'. He added: 'As Frisa got on in years, I dreaded the day I would visit her territory and find her gone. 'Sadly, that day has come and I feel like I've lost a friend. 'But what a wonderful life she had with her mate Skye. Together they raised 25 chicks, many of which are now breeding far and wide across Scotland. 'She was a true icon for white-tailed eagles and she'll always hold a special place in my heart.' RSPB Scotland said Frisa has not been seen since last year, leading experts to believe she has died either of natural causes, or following an altercation with another eagle. It is with a heavy heart we announce the death of Frisa, the UK's oldest wild White-tailed Eagle. This clip shows Frisa on the very first series of Springwatch in 2005, feeding some of the 25 chicks she raised during her lifetime. Catch the full story on tonight's episode. — RSPB Scotland (@RSPBScotland) June 2, 2025 Skye has also been spotted with another younger female eagle on Mull, which further suggests that Frisa has passed away as white-tailed eagles mate for life. At 31 years of age, Skye now takes on the mantle as the UK's oldest wild white-tailed eagle. Frisa's mother Blondie successfully raised the very first white-tailed eagle to fledge in Scotland following the reintroduction of the species in 1975. The species previously became extinct in the UK in 1918 when the last known native wild bird was shot in Shetland. A reintroduction project on the Isle of Rum using chicks donated from Norway has since seen the species re-establish a self-sustaining population in Scotland. There are now estimated to be up to 200 pairs of white-tailed eagles in the UK.

Leyton Orient release EIGHT players including former Premier League star, 40, after play-off final heartbreak
FORMER Premier League star Darren Pratley has been released by Leyton Orient aged 40. The midfielder had been a stalwart in Richie Wellens' side for the last four years, helping them reach the League One play-offs where they lost in the final to Charlton. 2 2 He turned 40 in April and the club paid tribute to his career, and his contribution to Orient's League Two title win in 2023. Pratley played in the Premier League for Bolton and he made 202 appearances for the Trotters. His best years came at Swansea where he won promotion to the Prem via the play-offs in 2011 - he also won League One with the Swans in 2008. Pratley helped Bolton win promotion from the third tier in 2017, and repeated that feat two years later with Charlton. Orient have released seven other players, including another ex-Bolton star Randell Williams, who joined on a short-term contract in January. Jayden Sweeney, Joe Pigott, Sam Howes, Rhys Byrne, Reon Smith-Kouassi and Thomas Avgoustidis have also been released. Two more players, Theo Archibald and Jordan Graham, will continue at the club on an out of contract basis as they continue their rehabilitation on long-term ACL injuries. Manager Richie Wellens said: 'Each and every one of my players gave me absolutely everything this season, and they have all been a pleasure to work with. 'This group has been special – one of the best I have ever worked with as a player or manager – and that makes these decisions even tougher. EFL club release 'gorgeous work of art' kit and even rival fans want to buy it 'This summer, we will say goodbye to some players who have been with us for a long time, and I can only thank them for their service to our football club. They have played a huge role in our climb up the ladder, and I wish them all the very best for the future. 'Jordan Graham and Theo Archibald put their bodies on the line for us and we will continue to support them throughout their recovery from injury by having them around the training ground. 'I'm looking forward to seeing them both back playing again, be that with us or someone else.'

Huge Brit pop star reveals she's been approached for Celebrity Big Brother – and is desperate to enter the house
A HUGE British pop star has revealed she's been approached to do Celebrity Big Brother. Singer Jessie J, 37, also went on to say that she was desperate to do the reality show, but revealed what was holding her back. 4 4 The pop star made the admission on Capital Breakfast this morning. Speaking to radio host Jordan North, she was asked which reality show she would like to do. Jessie then replied: " Big Brother, yeah but I don't know how much (money I would do it) for, but I would love to do it." Teasing fans she said: "Maybe I've already been asked but I couldn't do it, and my family were like 'don't do it', and I was like, 'why?' JESSIE'S BIG COMEBACK Jessie is getting ready to release her sixth studio album, which will be her first in seven years. It will include her new single, No Secrets, which she released in April. Earlier this year, The Sun revealed how the singer had been working with Adele's favourite songwriting partner Ryan Tedder. An insider said: 'Jessie has recorded a string of new songs and has her fifth album ready to go. 'She's been through some seismic changes in her life over the past couple of years, most notably becoming a mum, and it's inspired her to get back into the studio. Jessie J reveals she's 'unemployed' as she quits pop job after 17 years and having first baby- 'Jessie spent time writing with Ryan, who wrote her song I Want Love, and they've come up with some amazing new tunes. 'It has been a long time coming but the timing had to be right. 'She didn't want to keep churning out record after record, and wanted it to feel authentic and real. Jessie's last album, R.O.S.E, was released in four parts in 2018 but failed to have the impact the ex-Voice UK coach had hoped for. In 2023, she split from Republic Records after 17 years and told fans she was looking for a fresh start. Becoming a mum to son Sky was also a driving force behind her wanted to go in a different direction. She said at the time: 'There's no negative spin, nothing's happened, it's not dramatic. 'It's just me literally saying, 'This doesn't feel right' and it hasn't for years.'
