The first ‘feel-good' body horror left me thinking about its extreme scenes

Together is the self-described 'feel-good body horror' starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco that's promising to both scare you silly and tickle your sides this summer.
And while it's certainly a fun time, it's not quite the genre-defying movie I hoped for – but it did still leave me thinking about some of its most extreme scenes days later.
Franco and Brie play a couple stuck in a rut after 10 years together, no better evidenced than by a disastrously judged proposal in front of friends that will have you squirming in your seat.
Shortly after that, the creepiest scene with the film's biggest jump scare pops up; I won't spoil if for you, but it's the image that flashed in front of my eyes when I closed my front door after returning home from the screening.
The real-life married couple play off each other well as two people engaged in a relationship slowly circling the drain, the monotony of which is perfectly drilled into your head by the number of times they bleat 'babe' at each other.
Their names are, in fact, Tim – a failing musician – and Millie, who is a schoolteacher. They've moved outside the city together to allow her to take a meaningful teaching job. But as they settle into their old-fashioned country house, a gross rat-shaped surprise lies in wait, which further sets back the reluctant Tim when it unexpectedly unlocks childhood trauma.
Despite their problems, Tim and Millie then set off for a hike in the nearby woods after her ominous comment: 'I don't want to be the dumb city folk who went against nature and lost.'
Of course they are though, promptly falling into a hidden cave in the woods and drinking from its eerie underground lake while they wait for morning to break. The weirdness starts almost immediately when the underground cave appears to come alive – one of Together's strongest features is how effectively its sound design builds and stretches tension – before they wake to find their legs fused together by what they assume is some form of gross mildew.
Tim initially seems most affected by the couple's odd experience, unable to bear being apart from Millie – 'It's like I'm thirsty all over – but not with you,' he admits.
You can imagine how that then translates into a desperate sex scene between the pair, which will have you crossing your legs tightly in horror. There's more still to come too, with Franco's Tim choking himself awake after inhaling his wife's hair in his sleep oddly the scene that got to me the most.
Together's big reveal is no huge surprise, although enjoyably daft while also drawing its inspiration from ancient Greek philosophy. It's a bit of an anti-climax when the film has done so well in ratcheting up the tension with classic time-honoured horror scenarios, like Tim panicking in the study as he hears Millie pound down the stairs at a terrifying speed, careering towards him.
Things become especially intense as the couple fights to keep their bodies apart, from creepy contortions to bringing out the trusty electric saw (gag), as the movie crescendos in a pure moment of gross-out horror à la The Substance.
It takes an hour for Together to hit its horror stride and move away from some of the more repetitive relationship drama, becoming more of the watch-between-your-fingers experience the trailer suggested you'd be seeing.

However, it generally has a good sense of humour, demonstrated by its central conceit and a fantastic final act needle drop – but it could have gone further and been more outrageous in the humour. More Trending
Plot strands are not always neatly woven together either, especially when it comes to Tim's past, which seems like an excuse to just add in a few more cool horror tropes and scares by writer-director Michael Shanks, but ultimately ends up a bit meaningless.
Together is a good old-fashioned horror film that gives fans what they want, but doesn't quite deliver on any claims that it's revolutionising the genre.
While it may not live up to its 'feel-good' body horror promise, Together still delivers good gross-out moments and highly watchable performances from Franco and Brie.
Together is in UK and Irish cinemas now.

Bimini Bon-Boulash signed up to 'hardest show on TV' without seeing an episode

Bimini Bon-Boulash had never seen SAS: Who Dares Wins before signing up. They just knew it was dubbed 'the hardest show on television' — and that alone was enough to lure them in. Despite the show's infamous reputation, Bimini is impressively unfazed when shot at, punched in the face, or dropped from a great height into ice-cold waters. The drag artist — real name Tommy Hibbits — admited to Metro that even they've asked themselves while watching it back: 'Am I okay? Nothing seems to be bothering me that much, as if I need the extremities to focus and be calm.' However underneath the undaunted surface the star admits they approached the process with caution. Not because of the endurance it demanded, but because they were being thrown into an intense environment with hyper-masculine straight men like former Premier League footballer Troy Deeney, professional boxer Conor Benn, and Love Island heartbreaker Adam Collard. 'I knew people weren't gonna be homophobic, but I thought, 'Is it gonna be like high school again — hanging around with the straight lads, and everyone just taking the p**s out of each other all the time?'' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video But quickly, that didn't matter. They had to come together as a team, become friends — they were all each other had. Still, Bimini is clearly disappointed that there's a lot we don't see on-screen — presumably because Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins prefers to show its stars at their lowest. 'I had a conversation with Conor, Adam, Troy, myself and Lucy [Spraggan], and the men said they don't know how to express emotion without anger. They realised it's actually sadness — but they don't know how to be sad without being angry. That's all they've ever been taught: to 'man up.' We deconstructed it in a progressive way that would be really beautiful to see.' Instead, those moments of vulnerability are cut in favour of pure misery. In a recent episode, Bimini was gloved up and put in the ring with Traitors winner Harry Clarke — instructed to pull no punches. 'That was so out of my comfort zone,' they say. 'I don't like physical violence. I don't like the idea of war. So that challenge was what I was most worried about — which is interesting, because that was the one a lot of the other guys were most excited about.' But that wasn't even Bimini's lowest point. While they can't say too much before the episode airs, they warn: 'There's a moment coming soon where it definitely started to get to me.' While many stars who boldly sign up for this relentless mental and physical battering either drop out or get thrown out by furious DS leaders Mark 'Billy' Billingham, Jason Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver, Bimini proves that the LGBTQ+ community possesses a unique strength and determination that refuses to be broken. 'A lot of people are coming up to me and saying, 'You've been doing it with such poise,' they said. 'I guess it goes back to the resilience of being queer.' 'If you can accept yourself in a world that doesn't accept you, then you can jump off a cliff, you know? I just never had a voice in my head telling me I was going to give up.' Regardless of how often the LGBTQ+ community's grit is tested, it remains constantly underestimated — especially when it comes to physical strength. Bimini's been dancing their whole life, performing cartwheels down the aisles of Tesco, totally unapologetic even when bullied at school. 'I was told I didn't have the genitals I have because I can do the splits,' they tell me, with an eye roll. But anyone who's been to a Bimini show can attest to their athleticism, gasping as they backflip in 10-inch heels and bend their legs behind their head without barely breaking a sweat. One DS even told them they were 'wasted in drag,' as though they don't already channel the full force of their body on stage. 'I don't know why drag queens are underestimated, considering what we put our bodies through. I told one of the DS staff to wear a pair of 10-inch Pleasers for 12 and a half hours and then see who thinks they're hard. 'We take to anything like a duck to water. We throw ourselves into it. So I really enjoyed the fact there were so many physical tests — this was once-in-a-lifetime stuff.' The physical challenges were a breeze. The real challenge was the constant anticipation of being shouted at or summoned by the DS. 'I only had two showers,' they say, mortified. 'It was gross. But you're on edge the whole time — you don't know if they're going to shout at you, so no one dared take a shower.' Thankfully, they emerged from the process unscathed — unlike some of their co-stars. X Factor star Lucy Spraggan tore her vulva so badly she required reconstructive surgery after filming. More Trending 'That was crazy — she's got a designer vagina now,' they tease. Instead, Bimini left with a deeper sense of self and more conviction in the strengths they always knew were there. 'It cemented me to my core,' they say. 'I'm Lara Croft, and no one is going to tell me otherwise.' Panic as beloved Coronation Street resident is found collapsed in new video

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video There's panic for Coronation Street favourite Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) when she collapses at number 13 and requires urgent medical attention. When she began to suffer symptoms she originally attributed to the menopause, Debbie sought medical advice. After the doctor learned that Debbie had been suffering blackouts, chronic mood swings and increasing levels of forgetfulness, he diagnosed her with young-onset dementia and told her that the blackouts were probably due TIA's (mini strokes) and warned that they were likely to continue. Debbie, utterly rocked, resolved to keep her diagnosis secret, particularly from brother Kevin (Michael Le Vell) who was battling testicular cancer and long-term partner Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), who she broke up with, determined not to become a burden. Following further incidents, including passing out in front of her family, Debbie finally revealed the truth about her condition. As more and more people learned of her dementia, including Ronnie, he set out to reunite with his ex. Debbie put up a fight, but ultimately accepted that Ronnie wanted to support her, and the two reunited. They further solidified their love when Debbie proposed at the wedding of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove). Upcoming episodes will see Debbie decide to let herself into Kevin's house to do a touch of cleaning while he and his family are away on holiday. Debbie is, however, unaware that Abi (Sally Carman-Duttine) has faked the loss of her passport in order to stay at home and continue her clandestine affair with her husbands brother, Carl (Jonathan Howard). More Trending In fact, when Debbie enters number 9, Carl is upstairs while Abi is at the shop, fetching drinks. Debbie begins to falter, speaking incoherently and eventually collapsing, Carl comes down to investigate, finding his sister in a bad way. As Abi returns home, she's relieved that Debbie didn't see him before her incident and shoos him away before calling an ambulance.
