People Can Fly cancels two games and lays off developers
The statement doesn't elaborate on how many staff will be impacted by the cuts, but does call out Project Gemini and Project Bifrost as the two games being cancelled. People Can Fly made the decision to shut down Gemini because the game's publisher failed to provide a publishing agreement and didn't communicate "its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project." Without that publishing deal or the funds to continue working on Bifrost — a self-published VR game — the studio was forced to cancel it, too.
This isn't the first time People Can Fly has shut down a project or made cuts to its teams. In December 2024, the studio announced that it was ending development on a game called Project Victoria and also reducing the number of people working on Bifrost. In that same announcement, People Can Fly also revealed that Square Enix was publishing Gemini.
People Can Fly last worked with Square Enix to publish Outriders, somewhat of a minor cult hit now, but not a commercial success at launch. Even with the cuts and cancelled games, the studio still has multiple upcoming projects in the works, including Project Delta, which People Can Fly is creating for Sony and Gears of War: E-Day , which the studio is co-developing with Xbox studio The Coalition.

Gemini on Android may soon support the full range of Canvas creation options (APK teardown)
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Earlier this year, Google Gemini introduced Canvas for working with documents. Canvas on the web allows you to create things like apps, Audio Overviews, and infographics straight from your docs. Now it looks like Google's working to bring the same option to the Gemini mobile app. On-device AI models like Gemini Nano are very impressive for what they're able to do within some serious hardware constraints, but when it comes to AI solutions capable of some real heavy lifting, we still turn to cloud-hosted services the majority of the time. And while that's totally workable, it does leave us feeling just a wee bit frustrated when we don't have the same features available to us across platforms. Gemini's slowly been getting better in this regard, bringing more and more web features to its mobile app, and we've just spotted another that's getting ready to make the transition. Google's been showing what us what Gemini can do across all sorts of media, and earlier this year, its ability to work with all things text got a major shot in the arm through the introduction of Canvas. Gemini Canvas makes it easier to work with lengthy documents, generating and editing away, and handling everything from a résumé to some web code. With all that text, it's easy to understand why Canvas may lean a little more towards its browser interface on a PC, but we've already seen developer efforts increasingly target fleshing out the Android side of things. Looking through version beta of the Google app for Android, we've identified an in-progress change that would bring another Gemini Canvas web feature to the app. Right now with Gemini on the web, you can use Canvas to create things based on the document you're working with. Those include web pages, quizzes, and infographics. In a pinch, you can also do this from the Chrome browser on your phone (leftmost screenshot above), but so far the Gemini app has lacked a native equivalent. With this new release, we're able to preview a not yet publicly accessible change that implements those output options within the Gemini app's UI. We see the same selection of options, just finally now in a place we can access on mobile without jumping through unnecessary hoops. It's anyone's guess when Google might actually push these options live, but doing so seems reasonably straightforward. Brandon Blackstock Was Dating Kelly Clarkson Assistant
Last week, it was confirmed that Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband and former talent manager, Brandon Blackstock, had died from skin cancer at the age of 48. The sad news broke just hours after Kelly announced that she was postponing the remainder of her August concerts in order to be 'fully present' for her children, whose 'father has been ill.' A representative for Brandon later told People that he had 'bravely battled cancer for more than three years,' and 'passed away peacefully' on Aug. 7, 'surrounded by family.' Kelly and Brandon were married from 2013 to 2020 and share two children: 11-year-old River Rose, and 9-year-old Remington Alexander. Their divorce was finalized in 2022 following an incredibly messy legal battle, which centered around a financial dispute from Kelly's time being managed by Brandon under his family's talent agency. The legal case was settled in May 2024. After Brandon's death, an insider reflected on the former couple's 'incredibly difficult' divorce to People, stating that it was 'messy, painful and something she felt terrible about.' However, the source went on to add that Kelly always remained positive about Brandon for the sake of their children, saying: 'When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. Kelly has always tried to keep things classy.' 'She always wanted her kids to have the best relationship possible with their dad. She never spoke poorly about Brandon to the kids,' they added. 'It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She's been devastated for the kids.' And some more insight into Brandon's personal life has come to light in his obituary, which reveals that he was in a happy relationship with Brittney Marie Jones at the time of his death. In the obituary, Brittney is described as Brandon's 'beautiful and loving partner in life and business,' and it has since been revealed that Brittney actually worked as Kelly's production assistant in Nashville between 2016 and 2018. Per People, Brittney's LinkedIn revealed that after working for Kelly for two years, she transitioned to an executive management assistant role for Brandon in December 2018, but still 'assistant managed day to day artist schedule for Kelly Clarkson.' In June 2020, which is the same month that Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon, Brittney became an executive assistant for his Montana ranch, V Bar B Cattle Co. Brandon's obituary states that he and Brittney 'started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana.' People also report that Brittney's father, Larry Jones, paid emotional tribute to Brandon on Aug. 8, where he wrote: 'Yesterday we lost a good man Brandon Blackstock.' He purportedly went on to describe Brandon as his 'daughter's soulmate,' and said that he 'considered him [a] son.' Kelly has not publicly addressed Brandon's death as of yet, but we will keep you posted on any updates.
