David E. Kelley Speaks Of 'Compromises And Capitulations' By 'Corporate Industry Partners' & 'Darker Times' In Rousing Gothams Speech
In accepting the Visionary Tribute at the 2025 Gotham TV Awards, acclaimed and prolific TV series writer-producer David E. Kelley rallied his fellow creators, urging them to stay true to who they are even if that goes against corporate mandates.
'Every day when I wake up and get to do this job, I know how lucky I am, and all of us are lucky to do what we do,' he said, noting how it feels to be part of the creative community at gatherings like The Gothams.

Which is 'perhaps why I'm a little disappointed with some of the compromises and capitulations being taken by some of our corporate industry partners,' he said to a big applause.
Kelley, whose long list of credits includes L.A. Law, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Big Little Lies and Presumed Innocent, then addressed his fellow creatives, alluding to the America going though 'darker times of moral wobble.'
'We all set out to become who we are, it was Albert Schweitzer who first said that. But as you go along, perhaps the bigger challenge is to not become who you know you're not,' Kelley said. 'We're in the arts. We have a unique ability to move people, to offer hope in darker times of moral wobble. We can be leaders. Not everybody gets that chance, and fewer people take it.'
Kelley closed his speech with, 'Tonight, we're here all celebrating together, and I would encourage you as we go forward, as we sing our songs and make our television shows and movies and do our dances, have a grand time but hold on to who and what you are as you go about it.'

Harris Yulin dead at 87
Harris Yulin has passed away at the age of 87. The iconic actor died on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest, his family confirmed on Wednesday. His family and manager, Sue Leibman, shared news of his passing with Deadline. Yulin was born on 5 November 1937 in Los Angeles, California, and made his acting debut on stage in New York in 1963. He went on to build a long and successful career, appearing in over 130 productions on both the big and small screen. Major film credits included appearing in Scarface and Ghostbusters II, while TV credits included appearances on major shows including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was Emmy nominated for a guest appearance on the sitcom Frasier in 1996, and more recent credits included Ozark, Veep and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He had been due to appear in the forthcoming MGM+ series American Classic alongside Kevin Kline and Laura Linney and directed by Michael Hoffman and had been preparing for the role. Hoffman told Deadline, "Harris Yulin was very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered. "His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery, gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I've experienced nowhere else. "And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity. All of us at American Classic have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show". Yulin was married to actress Gwen Welles from 1975 until her death in 1993, and then later married Kristen Lowman in 2005. The star is survived by family including Lowman and son-in-law Ted Mineo, and was predeceased by his daughter, actress Claire Lucido.

Actor Scott Wolf and his wife Kelley are getting a divorce. The 'Party of Five' veteran, who currently stars as Dr. Richard Miller on the Fox medical drama 'Doc,' confirmed the split Wednesday, telling The Times in a statement, 'After 21 years of marriage, I have made the most difficult decision of my life, and filed for divorce from my wife Kelley.' Kelley Wolf posted the news of the split on Tuesday on social media. 'This has been a long, quiet journey for me — rooted in hope, patience, and care for our children,' she wrote. 'While I will not speak publicly about the details, I feel peace knowing that I've done everything I can to walk this path with integrity and compassion.' She called Scott Wolf 'one of the best fathers I've ever known and one of the best partners a woman could have the privilege of sharing life with. The actor met the veteran of MTV's 'The Real World: New Orleans' through mutual friends in 2002 on a blind date that almost didn't happen. 'We were meeting at a restaurant and she wound up turning up almost a full hour late,' the actor said in 2021 on 'Access Hollywood.' 'I was asking other people at the bar. I was like, 'How long do you wait for a blind date?' And they were like, 'Kind of an hour tops.' So she made it under the wire.' Turns out she was stuck in 'horrible' New York traffic, he said. They married in 2004 in her hometown of Fayetteville, Ark., and honeymooned in Africa.

A week into jury deliberations on Harvey Weinstein's New York rape retrial, the proceedings appear to be descending into chaos. The jurors just informed Judge Curtis Farber that they have reached a split verdict: guilty on Count 1 of a criminal sexual act in the first degree against Miriam Haley, not guilty of the same charge involving Kaja Sokola and no verdict on Jessica Mann. In this retrial, each count of first-degree criminal sexual act carries a maximum sentence of 25 years. 'They're all women with broken dreams,' his defense lawyer Arthur Aidala said in closing arguments last week. 'They're all women who wanted to cut the line.'
