Care home rated inadequate for second time by CQC
Hevercourt in Gravesend received the rating following an inspection in February which the CQC said found five breaches of legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, safeguarding, staffing, recruitment and how the service was managed.
In response to these findings, CQC imposed urgent conditions on the home to restrict them from taking on new residents without prior agreement from the watchdog.
Hevercourt, which was also rated inadequate in a report published in September 2024, has been contacted for a comment.
Inspectors found staff were supporting people with unsafe techniques, medicines were still not being managed or stored safely, people's care records and plans were not updated and lacked detail, and incident management and safeguarding systems were poor.
The report also said staff were not always recruited safely and there were gaps in employment checks.
Areas of the home - including people's bedrooms - remained difficult to keep clean and in need of updating, and the environment continued to be potentially disorienting for people with dementia.
A new manager was in post since the last inspection, but the provider had not given them a clear induction or action plan, the CQC said.
However, the watchdog added that staff reported the new manager had made some positive changes, such as acting quickly on a concern about a lack of equipment.
Serena Coleman, CQC deputy director of operations in the south, said staff did not take action when people's health was at risk.
"We also saw detail was missing from notes about what staff did when someone had choked on their food, and staff didn't support people who had wounds on their skin to regularly change positions to prevent further injury," she said.
The deputy director said in the watchdog's previous inspection it found people were at risk of sexualised behaviour from other residents and this was still the case.
Ms Coleman added: "During the inspection, we saw a 20-minute period where no staff were present in a room with six residents.
"Incident reports showed 80% of falls happened during the night shift, but staffing levels hadn't been reviewed."
The deputy leader said the care home had been told where "immediate and widespread" improvements were needed.
The CQC explained that the home remained in special measures, meaning it was being closely monitored to ensure people were kept safe whilst improvements were made.

Tyreek Hill's infant daughter with estranged ex-wife rushed to ER in scary ordeal
Tyreek Hill's eight-month-old daughter was taken to the emergency room after she showed symptoms of being ill Wednesday night in Miami, according to his estranged ex-wife, Keeta Vaccaro. Vaccaro, who filed for divorce from the Dolphins All-Pro wideout on April 8 following a domestic dispute, explained that she was scared when her daughter, Capri, began feeling lethargic and called Dr. Jared Friedman, a members-only concierge emergency pediatrician in Miami, who helped facilitate speedy care. Capri is doing much better as of Thursday, Vaccaro said. 'Last night was scary, Capri started feeling warm, super sleepy, and just not herself,' Vaccaro wrote Thursday on Instagram, where she posted an image of Capri sitting on a hospital bed in a medical gown. 'I called @drjaredmiami, and within minutes, he had us straight into the ER with an incredible team waiting for us. Blood work, viral panels, cultures, done swiftly and gently. 4 Tyreek Hill and Keeta Vaccaro's eight-month-old daughter, Capri was taken to the emergency room after she showed symptoms of being ill Wednesday night in Miami, according to the infant's mother. Vaccaro filed for divorce on April 8, calling her marriage to Hill 'irretrievably broken' — a day after police responded to a domestic dispute at their Miami residence, during which Capri was present. Vaccaro's mother, Alesia Vaccaro, called 911 because she feared for her daughter's safety, she said, after seeing a 'very aggressive and impulsive' Hill throw a laptop on the floor and walk toward the 35-floor balcony with her granddaughter, according to an incident report. 4 Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins speaks to the media during Miami Dolphins Training Camp at Baptist Health Training Complex on July 22, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Dolphins said in a statement that they were in communication with Hill — who has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason — at the time. During a practice in May, Hill told reporters that he attended church and therapy weeks prior. 'My job is just to be a great father to all of my kids and be the best player I can be and be the best leader I can be for these guys in this locker room, man,' Hill said. 'So, I'm going to stand strong on that and I'm going to stand firm on that.' The next month, Hill was spotted holding hands with an unnamed woman during a pool day in Orlando. Hill and Vaccaro married during the Dolphins' bye week in November 2023. They featured in the first season of Netflix's 'WAGs to Riches,' which premiered in January.

Pistachios, Dubai Chocolate linked to Canadian salmonella outbreak
The symptoms of salmonella (pictured under a microscope), typically appear six to 72 hours after exposure. File Image by Alissa Eckert, James Archer/CDC Aug. 7 (UPI) -- An ongoing outbreak of salmonella in Canada has been linked to pistachios, including those found in some Dubai Chocolate. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the recall of certain pistachio brands and products that contain pistachios. The Public Health Agency of Canada followed up with a notice about an outbreak of salmonella. The brands recalled are: Dubai Chocolate is a popular brand that got lots of attention on Instagram and TikTok in 2024. "While no illnesses have been reported from this specific chocolate, the product contains pistachios that could be linked to the outbreak," the CFIA said. As of Wednesday, there were 52 confirmed patients: 39 in Quebec, nine in Ontario, three in British Columbia and one in Manitoba, according to Public Health Canada. Nine of the patients have been hospitalized. The patients range in age from 2- to 89-years-old. People became sick between early March and mid-July, Food Safety News reported. The PHAC is investigating two strains of the bacteria, Salmonella Havana and Salmonella Mbandaka, that have been identified in the national outbreak. Officials said the actual number of cases may be much higher due to underreporting, the Economic Times reported. Salmonella symptoms typically appear six to 72 hours after exposure. They include fever, chills, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. Healthy people usually recover without treatment, but infants, seniors, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe complications. The CFIA said anyone who bought the recalled chocolate should throw it out or return it to where they bought it. Anyone who believes they may have become ill after eating the product should seek medical attention. Gulf News clarified that the name of the chocolate does not indicate that the pistachios or the final product were sourced from Dubai or the UAE. The country of origin has not been released.

Jim Kelly posts heartbreaking tribute for son Hunter 20 years after his death
Jim Kelly is remembering his son Hunter on the 20-year anniversary of his death. The 65-year-old Hall of Fame quarterback, who spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, per ESPN, shares two daughters — Erin and Camryn — with his wife of 29 years, Jill Kelly. The couple also share a son Hunter, who died of Krabbe disease on Aug. 5, 2005. He was 8 years old. 'Words are simply not enough to express how my heart is today,' Jim Kelly wrote in a caption on Instagram alongside photos of him and Hunter. 'So many things going in and out of my mind especially this last month. I can only reach out and ask people for prayers,' he added in the Aug. 5 post. In the final slide, Jim and Jill Kelly are seen wearing black T-shirts with 'Hunter' written on them. 'Hunter, I can't wait for the day that I get to join you in heaven. But I have a lot of loving to do right here at Home. I MISS YOU HB,' he continued. Jill Kelly also took to Instagram to post a tribute for Hunter. 'How can it be 20 years without Hunter? How can it feel like just yesterday and a million days ago? How did we walk through that heartbreak and survive?' she wrote in the caption. 'Not a single day has passed without thinking of Hunter, missing him and wishing he was here,' she added. Hunter, who shares a birthday with his father, was born on Feb. 14, 1997. At the time, he was diagnosed with Krabbe leukodystrophy. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Krabbe disease 'is a rare, inherited condition that affects the myelin that covers and protects your nerve cells, causing neurological issues.' It occurs in about 1 per 250,000 live births in the United States, per the Cleveland Clinic. There's no known cure for the disease. Despite being given no more than three years to live at the time of his diagnosis, per ESPN, Hunter went on to live well beyond his 8th birthday. He also inspired his parents to establish the Hunter's Hope Foundation in 1997, per its official website. The nonprofit has raised millions of dollars to 'address the acute need for information and research with respect to Krabbe Disease and related Leukodystrophies,' per its 2024 annual report. It also strives to 'support and encourage those afflicted and their families as they struggle to endure, adjust, and cope with the demands of these fatal illnesses,' per the report. Jim Kelly's tribute comes one month after another tragedy in the family. In July, Jim Kelly's daughter, Erin, welcomed her first baby with her husband, Parker Bean. Later that week, Jim Kelly took to Instagram with a heartbreaking update. 'Well, we need your prayers again,' he wrote in a July 13 Instagram post. 'We never imagined we would be here in this place of heartbreak and suffering again. Please pray for our daughter Erin, her husband Parker, and their precious newborn baby boy,' he added. Jim Kelly didn't elaborate on the details but clarified that his grandson was born with 'unexpected medical complications.' The family has kept their fans in the loop ever since, with Jim Kelly's latest update coming on Aug. 3. 'Watching Erin and Parker walk through this is heartbreaking,' he wrote in the caption. 'It puts everything in perspective and reminds us again and again that we are not in control.' 'The doctors have decided to pause any changes until August 11th, to give Little Bean time to grow, rest, and get stronger,' he added. 'They're holding off on taking him off his medication until then.'
