INDYCAR Power Rankings: Who Joins Alex Palou In Moving Up?
And the driver who finished second to him, Felix Rosenqvist, is back in these power rankings. He and David Malukas are now on the list.
Off the list? All the Penske drivers.
Hard to fathom but they just have not had the results in recent weeks. They've had speed. It would be no surprise to see any of them win a race. But their recent results have to be frustrating. They've got no top 10s in the last two races.
Here are the power rankings after back-to-back race weekends. The series has an off-week coming up, before four consecutive weeks of racing at Mid-Ohio, Iowa, Toronto and Laguna Seca.

On the verge: Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden, Will Power
10. Colton Herta (LW: 8)
Herta was 16th at Road America and just did not have a good weekend. Yes, Power was ahead of him on the list previously and finished a couple of spots ahead of him on Sunday, but Herta has earned more points than Power over the last month, keeping Herta on the list.
9. David Malukas (LW: NR)
A seventh-place finish was his second top 10 in the last four races with the other finishes in the top 15. The A.J. Foyt Racing driver is grinding out good finishes, despite some adversity in races.
8. Marcus Armstrong (LW: 9)
Armstrong was a solid fifth at Road America, giving him three consecutive top-10 finishes. The Meyer Shank Racing driver has five top 10s in the nine races this year.
7. Christian Lundgaard (LW: 5)
Lundgaard, at one point, was the fastest car on his tire strategy. But his day went south with a spin while racing Herta at Road America. The Arrow McLaren driver had to settle for 24th.
6. Felix Rosenqvist (LW: NR)
After finishes of 21st and 16th in the previous two races, Rosenqvist earned his fourth top five of the year with a second-place finish at Road America. The Meyer Shank driver hopes that he will get back some of the momentum he had earlier in the year.
5. Santino Ferrucci (LW: 7)
Ferrucci earned his fourth consecutive top-five finish with a third at Road America, giving the A.J. Foyt Racing driver a second, a third and two fifths in his last four starts.
4. Pato O'Ward (LW: 3)
A forgettable weekend pretty much for O'Ward, as he finished 17th at Road America. Expect the Arrow McLaren driver to be better at Mid-Ohio. He won there last year.
3. Scott Dixon (LW: 4)
Dixon had speed but not the strategy, as he had to pit from the lead with a couple laps remaining to finish ninth. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver could use some luck.
2. Kyle Kirkwood (LW: 1)
Kirkwood didn't have the speed to keep pace with the leaders but made the most of his strategy and finished fourth. The Andretti driver was coming off back-to-back wins and has five top fives this year.
1. Alex Palou (LW: 2)
Palou was fast all weekend and ended up having the victorious strategy at Road America. With six wins this year, it makes you wonder if this is a battle for second.

Alex Palou Continues Domination of Laguna Seca, Series Standings
INDYCAR WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca remains Alex Palou's best track, and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES' champion designation almost certainly will stay with him as well. The driver of the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda proved both with a dominating drive in the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey. He won on the California road course for the second consecutive year – again from the pole – and scored his third win here in the past four years. Palou has just as much command of the season standings, where gaining the maximum number of points for the weekend, along with the fourth-place finish of Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward, pushed his lead to a whopping 121 points. Palou still has work to do to clinch his third consecutive series championship and fourth in five years, but that effort is minimal. Effectively, O'Ward will need to win the remaining three races for Palou to be threatened. This win gave Palou his eighth win in 14 races this season. Only three drivers in the sport's history – A.J. Foyt in 1964, Al Unser in 1970 and Mario Andretti in 1969 – have won more races in a season. Foyt and Unser hold the record with 10. Andretti had nine. Palou is one of five drivers with eight wins and is the first to do so since Sebastien Bourdais in 2007. The win was the 19th of Palou's still-young career – he has made just 95 starts. Only 23 drivers have ever been to victory lane as often in open-wheel racing. Palou relinquished the lead only to pit. Interestingly, the top spot the first time went to Arrow McLaren's Nolan Siegel, who led the first series laps of his career. Team Penske's Will Power grabbed the lead when Palou stopped a second time, but he gave it up on the next circuit, restoring order to Palou's race. Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard finished second with Colton Herta of Andretti Global w/ Curb-Agajanian third. The two had a memorable moment mid-race when Lundgaard muscled his way to the inside of Herta in the track's final corner. There were two incidents on the opening lap. First, a tussle between Conor Daly and rookie Robert Shwartman said the latter shoved off into the Turn 3 gravel pit. Three corners later, Chip Ganassi Racing's Kyffin Simpson ran into the back of Felix Rosenqvist, knocking the Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb-Agajanian driver through the gravel and against the tire barrier. Simpson ricocheted off the wall, sending his car into another part of the tires. On Lap 11, Dale Coyne Racing rookie Jacob Abel appeared to have a mechanical failure as the car completely missed Turn 1 and sailed into the gravel. Later, Kirkwood ran into the back of Dale Coyne Racing's Rinus VeeKay, drawing the penalty that effectively ended his championship hopes. The two late caution periods were the result of the Turn 6 off by Andretti Global's Marcus Ericsson and AJ Foyt Racing's Santino Ferrucci spinning at the top of the Corkscrew. After five races over four July weekends, the series will take a short break before resuming the pursuit of the Astor Challenge Cup. Palou wins eighth IndyCar title of year at Monterey Grand Prix
Alex Palou captured his eighth race of the IndyCar season on Sunday, dominating the Monterey Grand Prix to tighten his grip on a fourth season points crown in five campaigns. The 28-year-old Spaniard won from the pole position for the second consecutive year to claim his 19th career IndyCar title after 95 laps over the 11-turn, 2.238-mile permanent road course at Laguna Seca in northern California. "What an amazing job by everybody to be as fast as we were," Palou said. "We had enough pace to open a small gap and get the win." Palou, the Indianapolis 500 winner, was in command from start to finish and with three races remaining could break the one-season win record of 10 set by A.J. Foyt in 1964 and matched by Al Unser Sr. in 1970. "It has been an awesome weekend, awesome year overall, but today was something else," Palou said. "Super fun to be here. One of my favorite tracks. I'm happy right now." Denmark's Christian Lundgaard finished second followed by American Colton Herta, Mexico's Pato O'Ward and New Zealand's Scott Dixon. Palou stretched his lead in the 2025 championship chase to a massive 121 points over O'Ward, who is now the only rival who can overtake him for the title. Palou is on 590 points with O'Ward a distant second on 469. Palou grabbed the lead at the start and kept it until a lap-25 pit stop under caution after American Kyle Kirkwood bumped Dutchman Rinus VeeKay. Palou returned to the track in second place but made an outside pass of American Nolan Siegel on lap 37 to reclaim the lead. The Spaniard stopped again on lap 52 and took over the lead once more only seconds after his return to the track. Palou made his final stop on lap 72 and returned to the course with a lead of more than eight seconds, then staying in front to the finish. The next race, the 15th of 17 IndyCar season events, will be at Portland in two weeks. js/rcw

Is it going to be one of those weekends? As much as I'd love for the championship fight to get tighter, Palou has exceled here. He didn't run away and hide a year ago, but he was clearly the best car from the jump. This year, Palou has won four of the five natural-terrain road-course races — and in the one he didn't (Mid-Ohio), his small silly mistake cost him the win. We haven't gotten a true Alex Palou beatdown of a weekend since the spring, and it feels like we're due. How will Team Penske fare this weekend? I certainly don't expect a win. I think there's an off-chance we get a podium from either Scott McLaughlin or Will Power. I still think we could get a Penske win before the season ends, but not here. Chip Ganassi Racing has won each of the last three trips to the track, and if I'm making predictions, there's no reason to expect that to change unless something odd happens. The Rookie of the Year race couldn't be tighter. Who has the edge between Louis Foster and Robert Shwartzman? Foster has had a better track record both in qualifying performance and consistency, so in a tie with four races to go, I'll give a slight edge to the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rookie, although I think this very much could be alive until the finale — at an oval, where Prema has gotten the bulk of their strong results this year.
