‘Electing Him Is A Folly': Netanyahu Dismisses Zohran Mamdani's ‘Nonsense' Vision For New York
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani during an appearance on 'The Full Send Podcast" with the Nelk Boys, calling some of Zohran Mamdani's campaign proposals 'nonsense" and predicting he would serve only one term if elected.
Benjamin Netanyahu, when talking about antisemitism referred to Zohran Mamdani as an 'antisemite", adding, 'A lot of people have been taken in by this nonsense. You want to defund the police? You want to have people go into stores and rob them and be free, you think that creates a good society?"
Zohran Mamdani has not called for defunding the New York Police Department but has proposed reallocating resources within the department to prioritize serious crimes while maintaining the current headcount.
Benjamin Netanyahu also criticized Zohran Mamdani's plan to raise taxes on the city's wealthiest residents, saying, 'You want to crush all enterprise? You want to tax people to death? I mean, that's a one-term effort. Sometimes you have to get mugged by reality to understand how stupid that is."
Benjamin Netanyahu added that he was 'not happy" with Zohran Mamdani's primary win, calling his candidacy a 'temporary folly." He said, 'I'm less concerned with it because I think if we can speak the truth to the young people of America, you know they wise up pretty quickly."
Zohran Mamdani has drawn attention for his criticism of Israel's military actions- which he has referred to as a 'genocide." He has said that if elected mayor, New York City would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit, citing a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. Tel Aviv has denied the genocide accusation and said that it does not recognize the ICC's jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Zohran Mamdani has denied being antisemitic and pointed to endorsements from prominent Jewish leaders, including City Comptroller Brad Lander and US Representative Jerry Nadler.

Norway Orders Review of Israeli Companies Held in $1.9 Trillion Oil Fund
Norway ordered a review of Israeli investments held in the country's $1.94 trillion sovereign wealth fund after receiving complaints that some might be contributing to Israel's military action in Gaza. Norway's ministry of finance, headed by former North Atlantic Treaty Organization chief Jens Stoltenberg, has written to the country's central bank and the oil fund's ethics council to review the investments and provide an assessment within 15 days of any measures that are deemed necessary. 'In light of the deteriorating situation in the West Bank and Gaza, and the fact that questions have been raised about the fund's individual investments, the Ministry of Finance wants a renewed review of the investments in Israeli companies,' it said in a statement. The wealth fund is managed by Norway's central bank, but decisions to exclude companies from the portfolio are made based on recommendations from an ethics council appointed by the ministry of finance. The council's job is to scrutinize investments to ensure they comply with a strict set of ethical guidelines. Following an ethics council recommendation late last year, the oil fund sold out of Israeli telecommunications company Bezeq over concerns the company could be contributing to human-rights violations as it provides services to Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Bezeq didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The latest move to seek a full review of the oil fund's Israeli investments comes after Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reported earlier this week that the fund had increased its investment in Bet Shemesh Engines over the last couple of years—a company it claims maintains fighter jets used in the Gaza offensive. Bet Shemesh Engines didn't respond to a request for comment. The company states on its website that it works with the Israeli military. The fund held a 2.1% stake in the company, valued at $15.2 million at the end of 2024. That marks a sharp increase from the $3.6 million valuation at the end of 2023, after Hamas's Oct. 7 attack on Israel that started the war. Nicolai Tangen, chief executive of the oil fund, said in an interview Tuesday with Norwegian national broadcaster NRK that an investment in Bet Shemesh Engines was made in 2023 and that the stake has increased since then. He said the fund has a mandate to invest in Israel, but decisions on investments in individual companies is up to the ethics council. 'Being invested in Israel is a political question, it is not a decision we make in the oil fund,' he said. 'We must have a very clear division of roles here, and we carry out the mandate that we have.' The fund is currently invested in around 65 Israeli companies. The oil fund was set up in the 1990s to convert Norway's vast oil wealth to global financial assets, partly to shield the country's budget from oil-price fluctuations. It has a stake in more than 9,000 companies globally, equivalent to holding 1.5% of every listed company in the world. Write to Dominic Chopping at

No need for separate law on widow discrimination: Goa govt tells assembly
Agency: PTI Panaji, Aug 7 (PTI) The Goa government on Thursday ruled out enacting a separate law to protect widows from various forms of discrimination and told the assembly existing support mechanisms are adequate to deal with such practices. The government has not received any representations about widow discrimination in the state, said Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane. In a written reply tabled in the house to a starred question by MLAs Altone D'Costa, Carlos Ferreira, and Yuri Alemao, the minister informed that no memorandums, appeals, or letters have been received by the government regarding widow discrimination, abuse, or isolation in the state. Responding to the legislators' query about steps taken to end unjust funeral-related customs targeting women, Rane pointed out that no such cases have been reported so far in Goa. Issues related to widow abuse or discrimination can be addressed through the dedicated women helpline (181) under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and through the network of One Stop Centres (OSCs) set up across the state, he told the house. 'The helpline offers immediate and emergency response to women affected by violence, including widows facing discrimination," the reply stated. 'One Stop Centres provide integrated support, including psychological, legal, and medical aid, and act as a single point of contact for women seeking help," Rane maintained. Existing mechanisms are adequate to deal with cases of widow abuse or discrimination and there was no need for a new law to address such issues, the minister opined. Seoul-Washington strike USD 450 bn investment deal to cap US tariff at 15%
Seoul [South Korea], August 7 (ANI), South Korea narrowly avoided steep U.S. tariffs on Thursday after sealing a high-stakes trade deal with Washington, capping new import duties at 15 per cent, instead of the 25 per cent originally set to take effect from Friday. As reported by The Korea Herald, in exchange, Seoul pledged a USD 350 billion investment package along with USD 100 bn energy imports from U.S and most favoured nation status to U.S., in key sectors which helped in reinforcing cap on tariffs. The agreement, reached just hours before the deadline, suspends the near-zero tariff regime under the 2012 Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and introduces a new 'reciprocal" rate similar to deals recently struck with Japan and the European Union. The deal comes at a critical time, with the U.S. taking in nearly a fifth of Korea's total exports reports Korea Herald. The newly installed government in Seoul moved quickly to craft a deal acceptable to Washington, negotiating up from an initial USD 100 billion offer before agreeing to the final USD 350 billion package, below Japan's USD 550 billion commitment to the U.S. President Lee Jae Myung called the outcome a 'major breakthrough," crediting it with restoring predictability for Korean exporters. 'This agreement aligns America's goal of manufacturing revival with Korea's ambition to expand its industrial competitiveness in the US market," Lee said in a Facebook post. 'It will further deepen Korea-US industrial cooperation and strengthen our alliance." Of the Korean investment, USD 150 billion will fund a major shipbuilding initiative named 'Make American Shipbuilding Great Again." Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol said the program was 'the single most decisive factor" in finalizing the deal. 'With Korean shipbuilders recognized for world-class design and construction capabilities, the project is expected to unlock new growth momentum and position Korea as a core partner in reviving US industry," he said. Another USD 200 billion will support joint industrial efforts in strategic sectors like semiconductors, nuclear energy, batteries, and biopharma. To reduce risk, the U.S. agreed to take over output from vetted projects, according to presidential policy chief Kim Yong-beom. Korea also committed to buying USD 100 billion in U.S. LNG and energy products over four years and secured most-favored-nation treatment for future tariff considerations on key exports. Sensitive agricultural sectors like rice and beef were shielded from new concessions. While several contentious issues remain unresolved, a summit between President Lee and U.S. President Donald Trump is being planned within the next two weeks.
