Birmingham Public Library's Springville Road branch to host conservation and recycling hip-hop program

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Public Library is hosting a free hip-hop program later this month to promote conservation and recycling.
Shaheed and DJ Supreme, who recently performed at the Central Library's 'Loud at the Library' punk show, will perform a free concert at the BPL's Springville Road Regional Branch.
'Conservative Collaboration with Shaheed and DJ Supreme' will take place on Wednesday, March 26, from 2- 3 p.m.
Alabama House passes grocery tax cut bill
The event is a group effort between the BPL, the Springville Road Library Youth Department, Birmingham City Council District One and Black Warrior Riverkeeper.
'Black Warrior Riverkeeper has enjoyed countless collaborations over the years with Shaheed and DJ Supreme, Birmingham City Council District 1 and the Birmingham Public Library,' Charles Scribner, executive director of Black Warrior Riverkeeper, said in a statement. 'I am so excited that these four distinct partners will soon join forces all at once, under the same roof, free to all!'

Birmingham Public Library to host Bards and Brews Open Mic at East Village Arts

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Public Library will host its monthly Bards and Brews Open Mic event at East Village Arts on June 6. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to anyone ages 18 and up. The event will be hosted by Thed Weller, and it will feature keyboardist Marlon Spears. This month's Bards and Brews event will serve as a tribute to Brian 'Voice Porter' Hawkins, the spoken word advocate who hosted the event until his death in 2021. Volunteers needed for 2025 World Police and Fire Games in Birmingham East Village Arts of Birmingham is a non-profit artist collective dedicated to fostering local artists and promoting diversity and creativity through the arts in the Birmingham community.
