FIDE Women's World Cup: Divya Deshmukh creates history, qualifies for Candidates tournament

Divya Deshmukh is the first-ever Indian woman to advance to a FIDE Women's World Cup Final (Image via X/@ChessbaseIndia) International Master (IM) Divya Deshmukh scripted history on Wednesday by storming into the final of the FIDE Women's World Chess Cup, defeating former world champion Zhongyi Tan of China. With this win, Divya also became the first Indian ever to qualify for the Women's Candidates tournament, which will decide the next challenger for world champion Wenjun Ju. Divya won the second game of the semi-final to seal the mini-match 1.5-0.5. It was another stunning performance from the 19-year-old, who has already knocked out second seed Zoner Jhu of China and compatriot Grandmaster D Harika in earlier rounds. Playing with white pieces against Tan, Divya opted for the Alapin variation in the Sicilian Defence and showed her sharp positional understanding. A well-timed exchange of bishops for knights led to a favourable endgame with an extra pawn. Although Tan had chances in the middle game, the former world champion lost her grip on the position. As the game progressed, Divya emerged with two extra pawns and an outside passed pawn. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo However, the match saw several twists before she eventually clinched it after a 101-move battle. 'Some of the business is not your business': Bobby Wagner breaks silence on Terry McLaurin's $33M contract dispute

Bobby Wagner addresses Terry McLaurin's contract demands (Image via: Getty Images) Terry McLaurin's contract holdout has become the biggest storyline surrounding the Washington Commanders' 2025 training camp. The veteran wide receiver is demanding a new deal reportedly in the $32–33 million per year range, similar to what DK Metcalf received from the Steelers. As McLaurin remains absent, tensions are rising, and questions are swirling throughout the league. Bobby Wagner addresses McLaurin contract standoff with blunt 'It's business' remark When asked about McLaurin's contract standoff, Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner didn't mince words. 'It's business… and some of the business is not your business,' Wagner said, per The Athletic's David Aldridge. It was a straight message that this situation is personal, professional, and not for public meddling. Wagner's veteran perspective adds weight. As a proven leader and Super Bowl champion, his calm but candid tone signals that while McLaurin's absence is notable, it isn't creating division inside the locker room yet. McLaurin's contract standoff puts Commanders in tough spot At 30 years old, McLaurin is seeking top-tier wide receiver money, which places Washington in a difficult position. While his production, leadership, and consistency are undeniable, teams often hesitate to invest long-term money in receivers on the wrong side of 30. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Horse Gives Birth To Foal - The Vet Sees It Articles Vally Undo Still, McLaurin remains a core piece of the offense, and losing him would be a major blow to the Commanders' 2025 playoff hopes. The Commanders must now decide whether to meet McLaurin's price or risk entering the season with their top receiver disgruntled or worse, unavailable. With a young quarterback and a new coaching regime in place, continuity on offense is critical. A prolonged holdout could derail the team's momentum before Week 1. FAQs Why is Terry McLaurin not attending Commanders training camp? Terry McLaurin is reportedly holding out of training camp while seeking a new contract extension. He's asking for a deal in the $32–33 million per year range, comparable to top-tier wide receivers like DK Metcalf. How much money is Terry McLaurin asking for in his new contract? McLaurin is reportedly seeking around $32 to $33 million annually. That would place him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, despite being 30 years old. What did Bobby Wagner say about McLaurin's contract situation? Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner commented on McLaurin's contract drama by saying, 'It's business… and some of the business is not your business.' His blunt remark highlighted the locker room's desire to stay focused despite the outside noise. Commanders can't afford distraction as Season nears Training camp is typically a time to build chemistry and install the playbook.
