Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu urged Centre‘ to help set up badminton centre in Amaravati

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Centre to extend support to the State for setting up a world-class badminton training centre in Amaravati. On the second day of his visit to Delhi on Wednesday, Naidu met Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya. He discussed key projects and infrastructure needed to boost sports development in the State. He highlighted the opportunity to establish a National Water Sports Training Hub in Amaravati, and explained the potential for setting up water sports training centres on the banks of the Krishna river. He informed the Union Minister that the State had already submitted multiple proposals related to sports infrastructure development projects. Proposals have been made to set up National Centres of Excellence at Nagarjuna University and in Kakinada. Sports infrastructure projects taken up in Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada and Narasaraopet under the Khelo India scheme should be completed as per schedule, he said. The Chief Minister sought Rs 27 crore for upgrading the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Vijayawada, Rs 170 crore for a multi-sports complex at BR Stadium in Guntur, and Rs 341 crore for the overall sports development across various regions of the State. He also stressed the need for sanctioning additional Khelo India Centres to identify young sports talent at the district level. He proposed that the Centre consider setting up of a Sports Authority of India training centre in Tirupati. Under the Andhra Pradesh Sports Policy 2024-29, he said the government had initiated steps to build a comprehensive sports ecosystem.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on the second day of his visit to the national capital on Wednesday, and urged him to extend support for setting up a world-class badminton training centre in the State's capital of Amaravati. Mr. Naidu discussed key projects and infrastructure plans needed to boost sports development in the State. He also highlighted the need to establish a national water sports training hub in Amaravati, and explained its potential along the banks of the Krishna. The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the State government had already submitted multiple proposals related to sports infrastructure and development projects. Mr. Naidu shared the proposals to set up a National Centres of Excellence at Nagarjuna University and in Kakinada. He also requested timely completion of infrastructure projects under the Khelo India scheme in Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, and Narasaraopet. The Chief Minister sought ₹27 crore for upgrading the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada, ₹170 crore funds for developing a multi-sports complex at B.R. Stadium in Guntur, and ₹341 crore for overall sports development across various regions of the State. Mr. Naidu also sought additional Khelo India Centres for identifying talented sportspersons at the district level. He also proposed establishment of a Sports Authority of India (SAI) training centre in Tirupati, located in the Rayalaseema region. Khelo India Martial Arts Games Mr. Naidu said that under the Andhra Pradesh Sports Policy-2024-29, the State initiated important steps to build a comprehensive sports ecosystem. He expressed his gratitude to Mr. Mandaviya for considering Andhra Pradesh as the host for the Khelo India Martial Arts Games-2025, adding that these games would be conducted at top-tier venues in cities such as Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. He also urged the Centre to sanction ₹25 crore for hosting the Khelo India Martial Arts Games.

Participating in 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' with Indian Railways flagged off from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, actor Madhurima Tuli said, 'I just participated in today's 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle', which is an excellent initiative... It is essential to spread awareness across the world of how important it is for us to stay fit. There can be no better option than cycling because it is also affordable...' 'I am proud that I have been a part of this movement. 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is very important because sports are essential for our mental and physical fitness. This is a very good initiative by our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The Fit India initiative needs to be spread across the world,' she added. 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' with Indian Railways flagged off from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Since its inception in December 2024, the Sundays on Cycle initiative has witnessed phenomenal reach--having touched over 5,500 locations and seeing participation from more than 3 lakh citizens. The movement has also garnered over 3.44 billion digital impressions, with support pouring in from icons like Sania Mirza, Milind Soman, Emraan Hashmi, John Abraham, Imtiaz Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, and the legendary Dara Singh, among others. Several Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres as well as Khelo India Centres (KICs) feature community-focused fitness activities such as Zumba, rope-skipping, guided yoga sessions, and free health check-ups by experts from the National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) during the Sundays on Cycle events. As per an official statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with World Bicycle Day scheduled for June 3, today's event will not only reinforce the message of cycling's big role in fitness but also serve as a collective tribute to India's armed forces. Delhi Government plans six new Khelo India centres

The Delhi government has proposed the establishment of six Khelo India Centres across the city to identify young sporting talent and promote a culture of fitness. The proposal is currently awaiting approval from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), a senior government official confirmed. Once approved, the centres will offer aspiring athletes access to professional training, modern equipment, and expert coaching. The initiative is part of the national Khelo India scheme, which aims to strengthen grassroots sports by setting up training hubs at the state, district, or block levels, often utilising existing infrastructure such as schools and community centres. These centres will focus on training in athletics, football, volleyball, hockey, and kabaddi. 25th edition of 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' pays tribute to armed forces; celebrates World Bicycle Day

The 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, celebrated as Tiranga Cycling Rally, was successfully held across the nation on Sunday morning. Highlighting a powerful blend of patriotism, fitness and environmental awareness, more than 15,000 cyclists from over 5000 locations joined in for a nationwide tribute to India's armed forces. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya led over 1500 cyclists at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium here, alongside Secretary (Sports) Ranjan Rao, sports icons - Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, cricketer Saba Karim, wrestler Sarita Mor, Bollywood actress Sharvari and the Indian cycling team. One of the major highlights of the Sunday morning remained a full-fledged participation of cyclists from several regions of Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Poonch, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Bandipora, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, Samba and more. These cycling drives were conducted by several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs) and SAI Training Centres (STCs). Paying tribute to the armed forces, especially in light of the recent successful Operation Sindoor, Mandaviya emphasised the deeper significance of this edition. 'This Tiranga Rally is a salute to our jawans and their sacrifice. Fitness and patriotism go hand in hand,' he said. The landmark edition saw the launch of two key initiatives – the Fit India Newsletter and the Carbon Credit Feature on the Fit India mobile app, where cyclists can now track the carbon credits they save by cycling regularly. 'One download of the app will make you a part of the Fit India movement. Your speed - from 7 to 34 kmph - and your distance will be recorded, and your carbon credits will be added," Mandaviya added. The newly launched Fit India Newsletter will also serve as a monthly digest, featuring inspiring news stories as well as updates and training tips from various fitness influencers. Actress Sharvari, who has been hailed as an upcoming superstar and is credited for films like Munjiya and Maharaja, was awarded the title of 'Young Fit India Icon' by Mandaviya at the event. 'This movement is huge and it's an honour to be a Fit India Icon. Cycling reminds me of school summer holidays - we all used to hire cycles and set out,' she said. 'This cycle rally is even more significant for me because this is for our brave soldiers. We can sleep peacefully in our homes because of them and it is my great honour to pay tribute to their bravery through this Tiranga Rally.' Olympian and wrestling champion Yogeshwar Dutt called the initiative 'a movement that links national health with national pride'. He remarked, 'If we are healthy, the country will be healthy. Young kids, senior citizens, all are participating. That's the power of this campaign.' Several athletes pan-India also joined in to make the landmark 25th edition of Sundays of Cycle a grand success. Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Dipa Karmakar flagged off the rally in SAI Training Centre (STC) Agartala while in SAI Sonepat, Deepika Kumari (Padma Shri Awardee Archer), Purnima Mahato (Padma Shri Archery Coach), Arjuna Awardees Sumit Antil, Paralympics double gold medallist and Asian Games gold medallists Jyothi Surekha, Ojas Deotale, Aditi Gopichand Swami, Paralympians Sundar Gurjar and Pushpender took part. Renowned Indian hockey player S.K Uthappa was also in attendance in SAI Bengaluru. Meanwhile, there was a big representation of the All India Police force in SAI Rohtak. Rekha Arya, Sports Minister of Uttarakhand, and Girish Yadav, Sports Minister of Uttar Pradesh, joined in for respective events in Uttarakhand and Varanasi. Former cricketer and sports administrator Saba Karim praised the inclusiveness of the initiative. 'This is a brilliant step by SAI. Cycling keeps us fit and our surroundings green. I used to cycle to school myself. There's no maintenance, no pollution. A perfect tool for health and environment," he said. Wrestler Sarita Mor, too, spoke passionately, "I feel blessed to be part of this initiative started by PM Shri Narendra Modi. Cycling is already a part of my training routine. Today, with this rally, we also remember our brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor. It is because of them that we stay safe today."
