To consolidate SC votes, BJP to reach out to 6,000 influential Dalits

Lucknow: In a bid to consolidate support among Scheduled Castes, BJP has decided to launch another outreach campaign aimed at engaging 1,000 influential Dalit personalities in each of the six organisational regions of Uttar Pradesh.
The campaign will be spearheaded by party's SC Morcha in coordination with senior state functionaries. A campaign plan was recently drawn up by the BJP central leadership, which asked the state unit to reach out to the various sub-castes within the Dalits, including Jatavs, Pasis, Koris and Dhobis.
"We will gather broader feedback from the influential sections amongst the Dalit and take corrective measures wherever needed," UP

The campaign is seen as part of a broader electoral strategy to counter opposition narratives while reinforcing the BJP's footprints in the SC-dominated constituencies.
BJP has demarcated UP into six organisational regions: Kashi, Gorakhpur, Awadh, Kanpur, Braj and western UP. Sources said that a dedicated team of party functionaries has been tasked to identify prominent Dalit people, including retired bureaucrats, teachers, social workers, religious figures, community leaders and professionals, whose influence could potentially impact a collective opinion within the SC community.
The outreach comes at a time when the BJP faces stiff competition from the Opposition, primarily the Samajwadi Party and its ally Congress, besides the BSP, which have historically enjoyed significant support among Dalit voters.
Kannaujia said that the campaign will aim to intensify its messaging around social justice, economic empowerment, and welfare measures targeted at SC communities. Experts said that personal interaction with influential Dalit figures can help dispel perceptions of exclusion and infuse a sense of political inclusion amongst the Dalit community.
The campaign also aims to highlight the role of Dalit leaders within the BJP itself.
Plans are also afoot to organise felicitation programmes and community service events in Dalit-dominated areas. These events will serve as platforms for dialogue on govt policies and community welfare.
The development comes days after BJP initiated a 'dialogue' programme in various districts. The programme was spearheaded by state general secretary (organisation) Dharam Pal Singh.
These meetings aimed to boost the morale of Dalit functionaries and prepare them for future campaigns, sources said.
Though assembly elections are still two years away, BJP's early start signals its intent to consolidate its support base and blunt any early moves by its political rivals. Party analysts believe that the Dalit vote, which constitutes over 21% of UP's population, could be a deciding factor in several tightly contested seats.
"The idea is not just to win elections, but to win trust," said a BJP SC Morcha leader. "Our party believes in Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and we are proving that through direct engagement and representation," he said.

Bengaluru stampede: Dy. CM breaks down over deaths, HDK demands his ouster from Cabinet
A day after the death of 11 persons in the stampede during RCB's victory celebrations in Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday broke down before the media, while speaking over the episode. The Opposition mocked him for shedding tears after allowing the tragedy to strike. Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy demanded his ouster from the State Cabinet, accusing him of being responsible for the episode. 'The Opposition is politicking. But I am grief-stricken over the death of children,' the Deputy Chief Minister said, weeping, while interacting with media persons in Bengaluru. 'Those children had a bright future ahead of them. This incident has tarnished the reputation of Bengaluru and Karnataka. We have taken this incident seriously, and we will rectify the shortcomings. This is a lesson for us.' He said the City Police Commissioner had told them that the programme in the stadium should be confined to just 10 minutes. 'I had no plans to go to the stadium earlier. However, upon being told by the police commissioner, I rushed to the venue. Even the KSCA president and secretary could not go to the stadium, and I had to take them in my car. We spoke to the RCB management to keep the programme short.' He said this was a time for mourning and not for scoring some political brownie points. Counter attack Launching a counterattack on the Opposition, Mr. Shivakumar declared that he would talk about similar tragedies that have taken place during their regime in the forthcoming legislative session. 'I can list out all the tragedies that took place during the BJP and JD(S) regime. But I don't want to stoop to their level. I will talk about such incidents during the BJP and JD(S) regimes in the legislative session. I am not going to talk about what happened during the death of Kannada actor Rajkumar (during JD (S)-BJP regime).' Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy blamed Mr. Shivakumar for the tragedy and said the Chief Minister should sack him if he had any courage. 'The DCM's hunger for publicity even amidst the tragic deaths and his rude behaviour at the programme was the height of insensitivity.' He further described the entire programme in front of Vidhana Soudha as a 'show of daadaagiri (bullying) by Mr. Shivakumar.' Even after coming to know about deaths, he participated in the victory programme, claimed Mr. Kumaraswamy.

In Brussels, Indian delegation exposes Pakistan's use of terrorism as state policy
Brussels: The all-party Parliamentary delegation from India led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday held a productive meeting with the European Parliament's Vice-President Christel Schaldemose, apprising her of Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism and the heinous April 22 Pahalgam attack. "A good opportunity to brief at senior parliamentary level the use of cross-border terrorism as an instrument of state policy to disrupt progress in Kashmir and communalise the situation. Condemnation of heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam and appreciation for India's firm policy of zero-tolerance on terrorism," Indian Embassy in Belgium posted on X. Prasad also took to social media, asserting that the meeting gave an opportunity to expose Pakistan's use of terrorism as state policy to undermine development in Kashmir and incite communal tensions. "We apprised the Vice-President of the European Parliament about the situation in India regarding Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. We requested that she consider highlighting the cost of supporting terrorist machinery in Pakistan, particularly in terms of international aid. We were deeply impressed by her evident affection for India and her commitment to upholding humanity and democracy," he said in a post on X. Later at a media interaction in Brussels, the delegation highlighted India's decisive response to terrorism, the goals of Operation Sindoor, and the roadmap for a stronger India-EU partnership, including in combating terrorism. On Wednesday, the delegation met with Members of European Parliament (MEPs) and discussed combating terrorism including cross-border terrorism, global peace, and deepening of India-EU ties. The EU side was briefed about the deadly 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the calibrated and targetted response of India through Operation Sindoor, giving the message of zero tolerance to terrorism. During the meeting, the MEPs expressed their solidarity with victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The delegates also had insightful interaction with leading Brussels-based think tanks on the menace of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism directed against India. The Indian parliamentarians discussed India's counter-terrorism efforts, including Operation Sindoor, with members of the think tank community in Brussels. They further conveyed India's unified and unequivocal message of zero tolerance against terrorism. Furthermore, the delegates interacted with members of the Indian diaspora who expressed their deep solidarity with the victims of recent terrorist attacks and backed India's strong and principled stance against terrorism and its zero-tolerance policy. They underscored the vital role of the diaspora in amplifying India's voice on the global stage. The nine-member delegation includes a diverse political representation with Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Daggubati Purandeswari (BJP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena-UBT), Ghulam Ali Khatana (BJP), Amar Singh (Congress), Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), M. After concluding visits to France, Italy, Denmark, and the UK, the Indian delegation is in Belgium as a part of India's global diplomatic outreach campaign to highlight the significance of Operation Sindoor and the continued fight against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism.
