Browns linebacker Jordan Hicks retires at 33 in offseason shocker

New York Post2 days ago
Cleveland Browns linebacker Jordan Hicks is calling it a career.
The 33-year-old announced his retirement Friday in an Instagram post after he missed the first two days of training camp with what the team described as a personal matter.
'Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined,' Hicks wrote. 'Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most importantly it showed me who I am outside the game.

I'm proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I've become because of it.
'To my teammates, coaches, fans, and most importantly my family.. thank you for your unwavering support throughout this journey. I'm looking forward to this next season of life and all that it brings. I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and that the best is yet to come.'

Hicks, who was at the Browns' OTA offseason workouts last month, was expected to play a crucial role in his second season with Cleveland.
In 12 starts last season, Hicks had 78 tackles and two sacks.
His wife, Ivana Hicks, praised him for his integrity and a decade of grit on the field.

'TEN YEARS! 🏈 A decade of grit, passion, sacrifice, and relentless work-through victories and losses, injuries and comebacks, highs that felt like dreams and lows that tested everything,' Ivana wrote in a separate Instagram post Friday.
'Today, my heart is full as I stand beside you in this moment of retirement. You didn't just play the game, you lived it with integrity, humility, and unshakable character. The kind of teammate everyone wanted. The kind of man I'm proud our children look up to. The kind of husband I thank God for every single day.
'I've watched you lead quietly, love fiercely, and stay grounded through it all. From locker rooms to stadium lights, your impact reaches far beyond the field-and I know this is only the beginning of your next chapter.
'I'm so proud to be your wife. So proud of the man, friend, and brother you've been to so many. And so proud of the legacy you've built. One that isn't just measured in stats, but in who you are. Here's to what's next, my love. You've already won the game that matters most.'

Earlier this week, Ivana commemorated his 11th NFL training camp.
'Sent dada off to his 11th Training Camp 🏈 11 years of sacrifice, passion, and love for the game,' Ivana wrote on Instagram, where she included a video of him hugging daughter Taliya. 'We are so proud of you!! Counting down the days until we're together again—and cheering you on.'
Another video showed Hicks consoling their crying son as the family sent him off to training camp.
'It never gets easier—especially as they get older!' Ivana wrote. 'Each year that goes by, it takes more sacrifice, from all of us, as we try to create a more 'normal' life for them. They move twice a year, have been to countless schools, make new friends, and embrace change so well.

'It's the only life they know. And sometimes, for that sense of normalcy, it's best we stay behind for a little while. They still don't, quite, get why dada has to leave but one day they will. Can't wait to be together again.'

After the news of Hicks' retirement, Ivana reposted the video of their son and wrote, 'Well, guys, this video and 3 days away from dada was short-lived. 10 years.'
Hicks spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles after they selected him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings.
Hicks has a career total of 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 13 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 11 fumble recoveries.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter were seen with Nikola Jokic's agent

There has been a lot of talk lately that LeBron James, one way or another, is on his way out as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and that they will look to essentially replace him with another superstar within the next couple of years. The belief is that the Lakers will try to go after either Giannis Antetokounmpo or Nikola Jokić next summer or during the summer of 2027. They reportedly want to keep a lot of salary cap space free for that purpose, which has led some to feel that they will essentially punt the next season or two and not try to win the NBA championship during that time. On his Instagram account, Misko Raznatovic, Jokic's agent, posted a photo of him with James and James' business manager, Maverick Carter, along with a cryptic caption. 'The summer of 2025 is the perfect time to make big plans for the fall of 2026!' This will undoubtedly spark speculation about James' future beyond the next handful of months. There have already been many rumors that he will eventually ask the Lakers to trade him soon, even though he exercised his player option for the 2025-26 season. Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP, who many still feel is the best basketball player in the world, can opt out of his current contract in the 2027 offseason. He just became the third player in league history to average a triple-double for an entire season, but he lost out on the 2024-25 regular-season MVP award to the Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

100 NFL Players Busted For Selling Super Bowl LIX Tickets, Social Media Snitches

Source: Kevin Sabitus / Getty Super Bowl LIX was a hot ticket. Maybe too hot for some NFL players and employees. More than a hundred are set to be fined and/or lose their allocation for the next two Super Bowls after league sources revealed they sold their tickets for more than face value. 'Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket's face value in violation of the policy,' NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel said in a memo sent out to all 32 NFL teams. The 100 players represent a little over 6% of the entire NFL player rosters. But per an ESPN report, there are team employees, including coaches, who are among the number who sold their tickets. 'This long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prohibits League or Club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket's face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less,' the memo continued. Players and team personnel sold the tickets to 'bundlers' who were working with resellers, per the memo. Penalties will increase for anyone deemed to be working with the bundlers to help facilitate sales. Fines would be one and a half times what the player or employee sold the ticket for, and they would lose the chance to acquire them for the next two Super Bowls. There could also be suspensions involved. Some of the players involved have already elected to pay the fines. Those who lose their allotment would only be able to purchase tickets if they are playing in the Super Bowl. The league would not release names of players, coaches or team personnel who were part of the crackdown. Tickets for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, which resulted in a 40-22 win for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, ranged in cost from $2,588 to nearly $3,500 for the cheapest seats. On the high end, some tickets were more than $10,000. Jaxson Dart looks more at home in best Giants training camp day yet

Jaxson Dart looked the part. The rookie first-round quarterback had his best day on an NFL field so far Sunday as he was accurate and aggressive down the field — a noticeable change from holding the ball too long when he wasn't getting off short, quick passes. 'I can definitely feel a difference in the first day [last Wednesday] to even today,' Dart said. 'Just that the game's starting to slow down a little bit the more that I get comfortable with the plays and the system.' Dart is adjusting to running first-time plays and mixing in with different receivers — all of whom require different timing. 'I felt confident in the different installs that we had [Sunday], and I felt at the same time the coaches gave me a lot of freedom,' Dart said. 'So I was able to make some checks that I wanted to, and I feel like that just allowed me to play just faster and be able to make quicker decisions.' Dart led a 12-play move-the-field drive that included a third-down completion and a couple of designed quarterback runs. Perhaps most significantly, he used a hard count — after clapping his hands to get the ball at Ole Miss — to draw the defense offside. 3 Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart (6) looks to throw during Training Camp at the Quest Diagnostics center, Sunday, July 27, 2025, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 'I don't want to play like a robot,' Dart said. 'I think that's just my play style. When I'm on the field, I'm going to be aggressive in any situation. A quote that we go by in the quarterback room is, 'Being aggressive but not reckless.' So, when you have opportunities to put the dagger in, that's what you have to do. And, at the same time, you can't be reckless.' Dart's philosophy during training camp is to get the mistakes out on the practice field and don't make the same error twice. It sounds like an extension of head coach Brian Daboll's philosophy. 3 Jaxson Dart (6) looks on during Training Camp at the Quest Diagnostics center, Sunday, July 27, 2025. John Michael Schmitz's trio of errant snaps in Friday's practice were a red flag. His best chance to atone comes Monday, when linemen put on pads for the first time. 3 Michael Schmitz Jr. (61) on the field during training camp. Daboll lauded Brian Burns for his chase-the-ball hustle on the play that led to a collision with Wan'Dale Robinson in Friday's practice. Burns only participated in limited drills Sunday while dealing with soreness. 'He's had a number of those this camp,' Daboll said. 'His effort has been outstanding.'
