Moral education essential for developed India: Nayab Saini

Chandigarh, Jul 30 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Wednesday said moral education for children is a must to make India a developed nation.
He said that students from classes 10 to 12 in the state have been distributed five lakh tablets, nearly 40,000 classrooms have been equipped with digital boards, and 1,201 IT labs have been set up.
Saini was addressing the Smart Class Expansion Programme, organised by the Sampark Foundation and the Education Department in Ladwa, Kurukshetra district.
Earlier, Saini launched a Smart TV Education Project from Ladwa.
The Sampark Foundation has provided Sampark TV Boxes in 7,000 state schools, he said. The package includes digital versions of Haryana board textbooks, videos, worksheets, and assessment modules.
A total of 1,485 schools have been equipped with LED TVs, the chief minister said.
As many as 132 schools of Ladwa and Babain blocks have been developed as 'smart classes' with such TVs, he said.
Saini said that education is not just confined to bookish knowledge but is a powerful medium that shapes the future of individuals, society, and the nation.
He said Atal Tinkering Labs have been set up in all 22 districts of the state, and more than 5,000 schools have been provided with Wi-Fi connectivity. Sampark Foundation founder Vineet Nayar said his foundation aims to create curiosity for learning among children and focus on the application of knowledge.
At another event in Ladwa, Saini said the government has set a target to install solar panels on one lakh houses this year.
He said a team of officers will visit every village for the project under the Pradhan Mantri Muft Bijli Yojana.
Families with an annual income below Rs 1.80 lakh will be provided with a 2 kW solar panel under the scheme. Out of the total cost, Rs 70,000 will be borne by the central government and the remaining by the state government, he said.
He also said households with solar panels will not have to pay any electricity bills.
Saini also said a sum of Rs 1,334 crore has been transferred to the accounts of farmers who suffered damage to their crops due to the recent rain. PTI SUN VN VN

Some MLAs and ministers share power, but some of us don't even agree to share power. Even at the panchayat level, many don't.' Earlier last month, chief minister Siddaramaiah had dismissed speculation of a mid-term leadership change, asserting he would complete the full five-year term. 'Am I not sitting here as the Chief Minister? Where is the vacancy?' Siddaramaiah said in New Delhi. 'DK Shivakumar himself has clarified this, and I'm saying the same, there's no vacancy for the CM post,' he had said. His statement was seen as a clear attempt to shut down persistent talk of Shivakumar being elevated to the top post in the latter half of the government's term. 'Congress's history is India's history' In his concluding remarks at the Delhi event, the deputy CM further talked about the grand old party's legacy and the Gandhi family's role in maintaining unity within the organisation. 'Congress's history is the country's history. The Gandhi family has kept the Congress Party united, and the Congress Party has kept the country united,' he said, according to an official party release.

Cabinet to take a call on Ghose panel report today
Hyderabad: The state cabinet, which will meet here on Monday, will deliberate on the Justice PC Ghose Commission's report on alleged corruption and irregularities in the construction of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation (KLIS) project. This was confirmed by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday. He clarified that a final decision will be taken after the issue is discussed threadbare by the cabinet. The report focuses on cost escalation and alleged mismanagement during the BRS government's tenure. Addressing an event in Peddapalli district on Sunday, the Minister criticised the Kaleshwaram project, stating that Rs one lakh crore had been wasted, while the Medigadda barrage had failed to provide any benefit. He pointed out that although Kaleshwaram passes through Manthani constituency, it had not irrigated even a single acre in the region. He said that despite this lacuna, Telangana had managed to achieve record paddy production, which shows that the state's agricultural performance was not dependent on Kaleshwaram alone. The Minister emphasised that his statements were not mere political criticism against a rival party but were substantiated by facts. Monday's cabinet meeting is in line with the decision to hold cabinet meetings twice a month to expedite policy implementation and improve governance. Previously, the Telangana cabinet had decided to implement a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections and admissions for native students in MBBS colleges. The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments on Tuesday 5 regarding a government order prioritising Telangana natives in medical college admissions. The State cabinet will also address the implementation of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme and matters concerning government employees, including a report submitted by a specifically constituted three-member committee. The finalisation of the Indiramma Housing scheme and allocation of houses across Telangana are also expected to be discussed. Meanwhile, the cabinet is likely to consider a new paddy procurement policy and measures for rehabilitation of families affected by the Musi rejuvenation project.

TG emerging as an international handloom hub: Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has underlined that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has actively promoted the textile sector through the 'Make in India' programme and is implementing the '5F' strategy: Farm to fibre, fabric, fashion, and foreign markets. In his speech, after inaugurating a week-long festival to celebrate National Handloom Day on Sunday, he observed that the handloom sector had experienced consistent growth over the past 11 years. According to him, this sector currently contributes 2.3% to the country's GDP, with 13% of industrial production and 12% of exports coming from handloom products. As a result, India has become the sixth-largest exporter of handloom and textiles worldwide, with exports valued at Rs. 3 lakh crore for the 2023-24 period. The Modi government aims to increase this figure to Rs. 9 lakh crore by 2030. Additionally, comprehensive support is being provided through the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The Union Minister emphasised the crucial role of the handloom and textile industry in India's economy, stating that it provided employment to millions and significantly boosted foreign exchange reserves. After agriculture, the handloom sector generated the most jobs, employing approximately 5 crore individuals, both directly and indirectly. Through the National Handloom Development Project (NHDP), the central government supported handloom weavers by providing marketing opportunities in international markets and developing essential infrastructure, the Minister said. Additionally, subsidised loans were available to weavers. The Modi government also offered a monthly pension of Rs. 8,000 to national and state award-winning weavers, along with scholarships of Rs. 2 lakh per year for the children of weavers interested in pursuing higher education in the textile field. Additionally, efforts were being made to recognise weavers by offering them support to participate in both domestic and international exhibitions. 'Approximately 20 handloom workers from Telangana showcased our weaving art at expos in Australia, Germany, Italy, and the United States. Consequently, local handloom workers gained valuable insights into the global market and how to promote our products.' All told, Telangana was emerging as an international handloom hub, with its weaving prowess gaining worldwide recognition. The state had over 17,000 handloom weavers and about 48,000 associated workers, who were essential to the handloom sector. Their artistry was evident in products such as Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal sarees, Narayanapet cotton sarees, Siddipet Gollabhama sarees, Telia Rumal, and Warangal carpets, all of which had attained Geographical Indication (GI) tags and international acclaim. The accomplishments of Telangana's handloom workers, who had successfully brought the state's art to a global audience, 'are a source of pride for all of us'. To further promote this progress, Prime Minister Modi was encouraging weavers, he said. The Secunderabad MP mentioned that the Centre proposed creating seven world-class PM-MITRA parks (PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) across the country and the one allocated to Telangana would significantly benefit the region. The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal was expected to attract investments exceeding Rs 10,000 crore and create employment opportunities for 2 lakh people, directly and indirectly. Moreover, due to Modi's initiatives, 100 electronic jacquards had been distributed in Telangana, and 31 handloom producer companies had been established, Kishan Reddy stated. The government was quickly implementing programs to revive the production of Himru fabric, Pithambari sarees, and Armoor silk sarees. Clusters in Siddipet, Kamalapur, Dubbaka, and Warangal were being developed, and as part of the Samarth Skill Training Program, over 900 weavers had received training. 'We are providing assistance for adopting modern weaving methods. 'We have provided Mudra loans of Rs 70 crore to establish handlooms and support weavers. Modi is dedicated to advancing the handloom sector in every possible way,' the Minister said. Kishan Reddy urged everyone to support the handloom sector and promote handloom products. 'Only then will our culture receive the recognition it deserves, and our weavers will feel motivated to foster the pride of our nation,' he remarked.
