Abbott on learning from 'one of the best defences in the Premier League'
Eighteen-year-old Forest centre-back Zach Abbott says he is enjoying learning from "one of the best defences in the Premier League".
The England Under-19 international made his senior debut for Forest in a Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby in 2022 but has began training full-time with the first team in the past year.
"For anyone it's a massive step," he told BBC Radio Nottingham's David Jackson. "You go to the back of the pecking order really and that's a really good challenge.
"You need to be confident in yourself, do the right things at the right time and get involved with everything you can. I'm learning off what is now a top-three Premier League team so it's really good for me to learn from one of the best defences in the Premier League.
"You see what they do and what I can do differently. I want to pick things up from people and magpie different things from different players."
Abbott appeared for Forest in the Carabao Cup second-round defeat on penalties to Newcastle last August and was in the squad for the Premier League win at Everton in December.
"It's been a really progressive year, I think I've learned a lot of really useful information, a lot of good tactics, and I just want to keep pushing on.
"There are world cup players there and that's where I want to be in the future. They also know I need to make my own way and do things myself so I like to learn from own mistakes as well. They know that because they have been there too. It's really good around the place."

Liverpool to make offer for €60m centre-back within DAYS
Liverpool secured Virgil van Dijk to a contract renewal before the end of the season. With the Dutchman's previous terms expiring in summer 2025, sporting director Richard Hughes ensured continuity at centre-back by having Van Dijk commit until 2027. That gives the Reds a degree of security in making their defensive plans but all around Van Dijk there is uncertainty. We could see Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez LEAVE in this transfer window, reducing the number of available centre-backs by two. Advertisement Those sales would leave Liverpool with ONLY Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as options in the heart of defence. But the captain turns 34 this summer and won't be around forever, while the Merseysiders have also got a problem to solve with Konate. The Frenchman, 26, is out of contract next year and if no agreement is reached over a renewal then he too could be sold. In this context it is wise for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot to be looking at the market for new defenders. Diomande back on the radar Their search has now reportedly taken them back to Portugal, where Ousmane Diomande is once again in focus. Diomande, 21, has just won the Portuguese league and cup double with his side, earning the plaudits for another solid season's work. Advertisement The Ivory Coast international is now attracting transfer attention from the Premier League - with A Bola disclosing that Crystal Palace have got the former Midtjylland stopper on their list to replace Marc Guehi. 'The Premier League club sought to find out the amount to buy the central defender from Alvalade and received the answer immediately: the Lions will only sit at the negotiating table for amounts of around €60 million,' the report reads. But intriguingly it's added that several other Premier League clubs - Liverpool included - have also taken this 'first step' towards signing Diomande. Liverpool could make Diomande offer 'Crystal Palace, by the way, were not the only ones to take this first step towards Diomande,' the report continues. Advertisement 'Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Bayern Munich (interest dating back to January) have not lost sight of the centre-back and could make an offer in the coming days.' Diomande is under contract until 2027 having joined Sporting from Danish side Midtjylland in 2023. He has played 101 times for Sporting, scoring six goals and adding two assists. On FOTMOB he ranks highly for recoveries and duels won - while his aerial duel percentage is solid at around 65 percent.

Liverpool employ new rule to secure RECORD transfer
Liverpool to use ESC ruling Pecsi doesn't have enough football under his belt to qualify for a work-permit with a Premier League side. The goalkeeper falls a fair way short, in fact. The only way Liverpool can make this happen, then, is by using a rule introduced in 2023 for 'Elite Significant Contribution' players. It's a rule that was brought in to help clubs secure elite talent with high potential. Advertisement Pecsi is certainly that but Liverpool must register him in some way. That could be with the senior side as a third-choice goalkeeper or with the Under 21s. But Liverpool haven't used this ruling before. It's a sign of just how highly they rate Pecsi - the Reds are willing to argue that he's got truly elite potential in order to have him qualify.

Jamie Gittens ‘agrees' to join Chelsea as transfer offer submitted
Jamie Gittens looks set to join Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window after reportedly agreeing terms with the Premier League club. The 20-year-old was on top of the Blues' three-man shortlist for a new left winger, which included Alejandro Garnacho and Nico Williams. Advertisement The move comes after Chelsea decided not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal from Manchester United and while uncertainty reigns over Mikhailo Mudryk's future. Gittens 'agrees' to join Chelsea as transfer offer submitted Chelsea have agreed a seven-year contract with Gittens, but have not yet come to agreement on the transfer fee with Dortmund, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein. The west London outfit, who have been long time admirers of the young attacker, 'submitted an official proposal' to the Bundesliga side, who see the player's sale as 'key' to their summer rebuild under manager Nico Kovacs. Advertisement Gittens is 'keen' on moving to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season and could even complete the transfer in time for the Fifa Club World Cup if both sides agree on a deal before Tuesday's deadline. Bayern Munich were previously said to be interested in the winger, who has also played as an attacking midfielder, but have not put in a bid of their own.
