‘Go shooter!': Happy Gilmore star surprises staff during Cliffs of Moher visit
Hollywood actor Christopher McDonald, best known as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, delighted Doolin Ferries staff while touring the Cliffs of Moher.
A Hollywood actor has been spotted exploring the west of Ireland this week as he surprised staff onboard a ferry headed to one of its most famous tourist spots.
Doolin Ferries staff were starstruck at the sighting of Happy Gilmore actor Christopher McDonald as he hopped onboard for the Cliffs of Moher boat tour over the weekend.
The actor, known for his role as Shooter McGavin in the hit Adam Sandler movie, was all-too-happy to pose with staff for a photo as they were clearly over the moon at the encounter.
Sharing a photo on social media, the ferry company said the team gave Christopher a warm welcome onboard as they wrote: 'It's not every day you meet a Hollywood actor!
'Doolin Ferry's Liam, Adrian and Niamh gave a warm welcome to Christopher McDonald, who played the villainous, professional golfer, Shooter McGavin in the comedy Happy Gilmore.
'He joined the Doolin Ferry boat tour beneath the Cliffs of Moher, enjoying the spectacular views of Ireland's most famous natural attraction.'

An ABC TV quiz show recently descended into chaos when an overenthusiastic audience member spoiled the episode during a live taping. New Zealand comedian and host of Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont-Spelling Bee was left flabbergasted when a contestant got the unexpected lifeline from the audience. Fellow comedian He Huang was struggling to identify (and then spell) the name of a country represented by one of four international flags. 'Does it start with G?' she asked Guy, after being given the 'fun fact' prompt: 'This country has a lot of world's heaviest animals because a lot of them are still carrying the psychological weight of World War Two.' Speaking to Guy said he felt the social contract between a live audience and TV quiz show contestants was 'pretty clear'. Which is, of course, not to participate in the game show unless you're actually a contestant. 'To be fair, no one was requesting spelling assistance,' Guy laughed. 'The show does draw an audience of word nerds or people who believe in themselves as spellers, so there is a sense of excitement and frustration that can occur when they're watching a contestant who is so close to approaching a word.' The stand-up comic and TV host attempted to unpack potential underlying motivations that may have pushed the helpful heckler to break that unspoken contract. 'One might be sympathy and that you're wanting to help them. You think "I can get them over the line here",' he theorised. Guy came up with the idea for The Guy Mont Spelling Bee in 2020 during the Covid lockdown in Auckland. He invited some of his comedian friends to join him on a Zoom for the silly spelling contest and uploaded the results to YouTube, creating an informal pilot for a stage show. Joseph Moore came onboard as a co-writer and pitched the idea to ABC, with Aaron Chen attached as a co-host. Guy has previously said the series has developed 'quite an intense fandom,' thanks its rotating roster of top Aussie and Kiwi comedians. Previous guests have included the likes of Melanie Bracewell, Urzila Carlson, Geraldine Hickey, Nazeem Hussain, Demi Lardner, Zoë Coombs Marr, Luke McGregor, Tim Minchin, Rhys Nicholson and Steph Tisdell.

As Metro's TV Editor and an avid binge-watcher in my spare time, I've been poring over Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and the other streaming platforms, desperately trying to find something new that'll grab my attention. In the absence of a show like Celebrity Big Brother consuming the daily rhetoric for several weeks in a row, I've been waiting patiently… and now, some of the biggest releases of the year are finally coming this month. So, June, what do you have in store for us? There are seven shows in particular that are on my to-watch list, including the final season of Squid Game and a sizzling period drama that seems to be flying under the radar. There's also a brand new thriller coming soon that I hope will have me on the edge of my seat, and the latest season of the TV show that single-handedly made me up my omelette-making game. How will the story draw to a close? With plenty of gore, that's for sure. But more importantly, reminding the audience once again about the way that class struggles dictate the world we live in. Apple TV Plus has been on a winning streak in the past few years, with critically-acclaimed releases including the likes of The Morning Show, Severance, Foundation, Slow Horses, Pachinko, Silo and many more. Smoke, starring acting chameleon Taron Egerton, is joining the roster this month, following an arson investigator and a detective who team up to try to apprehend two serial arsonists. But, in the trailer that's garnered 4.5 million views in five days, it's revealed that even Taron's lead character is under suspicion… or could at least have a secret hidden up his sleeve. Created by the writer behind Black Bird (Dennis Lehane), I'm already hooked. Smoke premieres on Friday June 27 on Apple TV Plus. As a bookworm, I often love to have read the book that a film or TV show is based on before watching it. In the case of We Were Liars, I'm glad I haven't. Coming to Amazon Prime Video soon, the show is described as a psychological thriller, in which an accident occurs one summer among a group of friends that changes the course of their lives. I'm being wary of how much I Google for fear of spoilers. One comment on YouTube underneath the teaser even says: 'The twist at the end is insane, anybody who's never read the book or didn't read the plot on Wikipedia, you're in for a treat.' I'm ready to have my mind blown. We Were Liars premieres on Wednesday June 18 on Amazon Prime Video. It was, quite frankly, the best omelette I've ever eaten in my life. Fortunately, that's not the only good thing about The Bear. It's a phenomenal show, one teeming with chaos that's promising to grow even more in season four. Amid the feelings of anxiety and stress that watching The Bear can induce, it's a drama that at its core is full of heart, passion, and a sense of community that never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Even if I couldn't handle the heat of Carmy's kitchen, I'll be tuning in. The Bear season 4 launches on Thursday June 26 on Disney Plus. A previous episode of the ITV quiz show, hosted by Lee Mack, saw 100 contestants attempt to win a huge cash prize. The programme's questions were put to the public, with the percentage who got it right determining the difficulty of each round. Aptly, the final question is one that just 1 per cent of the public answered correctly. The 70% question, which is supposed to be one of the easier ones to figure out, proved to be tricky for several players. It read: 'What is the difference between these two images?' Alongside the question, two images were displayed of Coronation Street pub, The Rovers Return Inn. Host Lee quipped: 'That's easy this, one's on the left and one's on the right.' The question tripped up three contestants who were knocked out of the game. Lee revealed the answer and pointed out that the name of the pub on the right picture had changed to 'Ravers Return Inn' instead of 'Rovers Return Inn'. An instalment last month of The 1% Club saw a question knock out a whopping 14 players. The 30% question read: 'Jamil is writing a limerick but needs a word that follows these rules to complete the last line... 'Two syllables, only two different vowels, starts with an even -numbered letter and contains at least three letters from the second half of the alphabet. Which of these words would work?' Players had to choose between Doggie, Blades, Hotel, Prizes and Rabbit. After 30 seconds, it was revealed 14 contestants got the answer wrong and were wiped out from the game. The correct answer was Prizes. The 1% Club airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
