Kennywood gives update on Steel Curtain ahead of opening day

Kennywood Park provided an update Wednesday on the Steel Curtain ahead of the start of its season next month.
The park's General Manager, Ricky Spicuzza, said that work on the coaster is almost completed.
In a video posted on social media, Spicuzza said that columns were delivered on the off-season and being installed to 'ensure the Steel Curtain is around and ready to thrill riders for many years to come.'
Once that phase of work is complete, the maintenance team will add the two trains back onto the track and begin test runs.
Spicuzza said they will be announcing an opening date for the coaster soon.
Kennywood Park will open for the season on 412 Day, April 12.

There is so much for fans to see at Oakmont Country Club ahead of the U.S. Open this week, from the merchandise tents, which really is set up more like a store — to a practice putting green, and then the driving range where many golfers were working on their swing. The walkway to the driving range was a popular spot for a lot of people, especially kids, to hang out and try to get autographs from their favorite golfers. Advertisement Channel 11 spoke to a few kids who were working to collect as many autographs as they could — and trying soak in all of the fun of being around the pro golfers. 'Just watching them putt and getting autographs and stuff,' Charlie Depascale, 12, said. 'I've got Andrew Novak, Evan Beck, and Doug Ghim!' said Delanie Gallaher, 12. 'It's really fun seeing all the golfers and stuff like that and it's as really cool environment! We're really excited to get out here and watch these golfers play golf!' Pittsburgh Fourth of July location moved amid Point State Park construction

The City of Pittsburgh has moved the location of its Fourth of July celebrations, amid ongoing construction at Point State Park. A spokesperson says the city's Independence Day events will take place at the North Shore Riverwalk this year, with additional festivities at Emerald View Park's Grandview Bandstand. Events will begin at 4 p.m. on the North Shore, including a children's fun zone, hot-air balloon, the Trulieve Veterans Wellness Row and continuous musical performances on the main stage, officials say. Fireworks will begin at 9:35 p.m. You can watch the celebration live on WPXI-TV. Additionally, the Steel City Blast at Grandview will take place at Emerald View Park's Grandview Bandstand from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. 'Independence Day in Pittsburgh is more than just fireworks — it's a powerful celebration of community, freedom and resilience,' said Mayor Ed Gainey. 'This year, we're bringing the energy to new locations across the city, with incredible entertainment, family fun and heartfelt tributes to our veterans. I invite everyone to come out, enjoy the festivities, and celebrate what makes Pittsburgh such a strong, vibrant city.' The Trulieve Veterans Wellness Row will provide various veteran-focused programs and resources. 'We're honored to continue our partnership with the City of Pittsburgh for this year's Independence Day celebration,' said Nick Rassler, Trulieve's Pennsylvania director of state operations. 'We are proud to support local veterans through the Trulieve Veterans Row initiative by connecting them with wellness resources, community support and a space to reset.' 'We missed it,' said Ryan Huzjak, the Steelers vice president of sales and marketing. 'It was an exciting process to get it up and running and see it go through it's first season. We have been patiently waiting for all of the improvements to be made so it can be up and running consistently. We are excited for the re-opening and hopefully a long run.' Advertisement The Steel Curtain takes riders up 220 feet, the tallest coaster in Pennsylvania, and has the highest inversion in North America as well as nine thrilling upside-down twists and turns. 🏈 Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis was inducted Friday into the Cotton Bowl Classic Hall of Fame with its Class of 2025. In the 1993 Cotton Bowl, Bettis, as a junior running back for Notre Dame, rushed 20 times for 75 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. He also caught one pass for a 26-yard touchdown.
